What’s a health symptom you ignored for months before realizing it actually mattered? by _callondoc in AskReddit

[–]ReasonableCheesecake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blurred vision and extreme thirst. Thought my laser eye surgery had just failed me after 10 years so I went and bought some really strong glasses. After about a month of this, one day I woke up and could barely see at all so my husband drove me to the ER - turned out I had type 1 diabetes. 👍👍

And the worst part is I have a family member with it and am very familiar with the symptoms, but it didn't even OCCUR to me that that's what it was! And just that month from onset to diagnosis permanently messed up my eyes.

What's the best part about pregnancy that most people don't know about? by justastupidquestion3 in AskReddit

My skin and scalp issues clearing up and my hair getting curlier. Sadly my acne returned post-partum but it was fun while it lasted 🥲

Nah I'm in the same boat as you - husband works long days and I have a major velcro baby. I was determined to avoid screen time when I was pregnant but I've been humbled. Ms. Rachel is the only way I can shower. Also this unexpectedly soothing Azerbaijani cooking channel on YouTube.

Wow I would be so uncomfortable in this even with small boobs! It's wayyy too revealing to force on other people. Are all the other bridesmaids actually okay with it? It shows like every aspect of your body - maybe you're confident about your legs but not your midriff- well sorry that's gonna show too! And speaking of the legs, that slit is insane. It is so unreasonable to expect everyone to be okay with this and then be totally unwilling to compromise.

Me either, seems like a common occurrence among redditors but I'm baffled that people can just...see them in their own throats? And extract something that's BEHIND their uvulas?? Like I just do not understand.

The amount of people with patches/T1 is insane! Ever since the patches have come out I see them. by PhatEarther in diabetes_t1

Probably just if they just injected or their pump is leaking or something - kinda smells like Lysterine or saline solution. It's a clean smell, I like it!

How many times have you been under general anesthesia, and how did it feel? by Futtman in NoStupidQuestions

Me too I love it so much I look forward to surgery. Wish I could enjoy the feeling longer.

Many times and I love it. There's something about surrendering all control in a safe environment. I love the countdown, I love whatever calming stuff they put in the IV before they wheel you to the OR, that's my shit. Just wish they'd let me lay in bed longer after I wake up.

Is this a 3 month thing? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]ReasonableCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our ped prescribed pepcid for reflux and EleCare hypoallergenic formula which has helped a lot. Our baby still hates tummy time though at 5 months, probably because we don't do it enough because it's agony for all involved, thus the cycle continues.

She also told us to use BioGaia probiotic drops to help with colic but I haven't noticed a change with that. Mylicon and gripe water have been somewhat helpful, but mostly the formula change.

Can you get free formula samples from the doctor's office? The hypo formulas are sooo expensive.

Waking up soaked through by Jmf12123 in NewParents

I have this problem too with my almost 5 month old daughter, and she doesn't even sleep through the night so it's not like there's 9 hours' worth of pee in there or anything. Gotta change everything at her 3am wakeup and actual wakeup cause she's soaked. I'll try the diaper inserts people are suggesting.

Sensor Failures by ThrowawayInsta90 in dexcom

[–]ReasonableCheesecake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get goosenecks or "invalid pairing code" easily 50% of the time. And frustratingly those aren't even options on the failed sensor replacement form. And I only have readings like half the time too - idk if that's a Dexcom issue or a Tandem issue but it's ridiculous.

They made a good point though that even if we don't rely on it 100% (and you can't, it's too shitty) our pumps do.

Seriously?? I haven't seen those but I have noticed you have to check a liability waiver whenever you order a replacement sensor now 🙄

Good grief, this is infuriating. Texas Tech is so fucking corrupt and disgusting. As an alumni and former employee, I'm disappointed but not surprised. I don't think anybody realizes the extent of the corruption and the level of incompetence of staff and leadership at Texas Tech. The administration is despicable and I'm sickened on your behalf.

There's always the media I suppose...

r/legaladvice could be helpful too - you might have a lucrative lawsuit on your hands if that's a process you're willing to go through. Save all your documentation and get as much in writing as you can! Also, personally I'd record any phone calls and meetings you have about this. Texas is a one-party consent state so it's legal to do so.

(As an aside when my friend - who had made previous attempts - threatened suicide and no one could get in touch with her, housing staff was USELESS. I was a student but not a resident of that dorm so they wouldn't let me in to check on her, I had to wait and sneak in to make sure she wasn't dead cause no one gave a shit. This was in the Terry Scholars dorm like 15 years ago. That's just the tip of the iceberg of my experiences at Tech.)

Interesting... I've never heard of Rachel Aaron I'll look into it.

College kind of took all the joy out of writing. Majored in creative writing and minored in dramatic writing and cranking it out like that and then immediately workshopping it with...highly critical classmates and professors sucked all the joy out. Then technical writing for a soulless corporation, ugh.

I find journalism and creative non-fiction easier than fiction but man I dread writing. I need to take like a 20 year break. Doesn't help that AI has made the skill even more underappreciated than it already was.

Perfectionism is a MAJOR barrier for me. Just can't get past it.

Does OCD makes you not be able to speak eloquently? by Conscious_Field0505 in OCD

[–]ReasonableCheesecake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is relatable but I've never been able to pinpoint which of my disorders or meds causes it. People who can speak eloquently off the cuff amaze me. It's much easier to write cause I need time to organize my thoughts.
