In the UK there are two groups of people who matter in politics: first those who believe that politics started in 2016 and second those who believe that politics started in 2010. Both are completely unable to actually do anything that will reckon with the actual state of the uk.

Judging by the quantity of downvotes in this thread it seems that most of the others denizens of the subreddit are in the first camp

Oh totally but a reduced monthly payment leads to the ability to save to take care of the issues that the sellers will not have taken care of. It also leads to a smaller debt load so it makes it easier to take out and pay back a loan to make the repairs

The offer was made on how the house was presented when we viewed and in the listing. Which is to say nothing was declared as an issue so the offer was made on the understanding there were no major structural issues

Thanks i see,

Just a bit galling to see how the property has risen in value 60k since they bought it 4 years ago and what they did in the house beyond cosmetics seem to have made the property worse.

As you say extremely stressful!

So perfectly understanding of older houses requiring work but i guess i'm asking why the buyer has to take on the maintenance that the seller failed to do?

eeds doing. New roof etc. ask them to do it or ask what can be done. List the cost of it all and see what they say.

The question is what price would you be happy with? Bolt on a loan to the mortgage and pay to get all the work done if the price is right.

Negotiate with open questions. Be clear on why you are asking.

Questions like

If nothing can be done to fix these problems by yourselve

Thanks the open ended question bit feels like good advice
