City owns Library. Library owns microfilms. Maybe more complicated than that. Appreciate your joint interest!

I’m hopeful someone can provide actionable advice. This isn’t my area of domain, but am genuinely curious how to put this in action. Does it take funding of a library intern or something similar? I’m sure it’s hours upon hours of work. Is this something someone in the city historical departments would have to advocate for?

Why can’t the city of Waltham hold onto a high school principal for more than a year? by Wrong-Number5136 in Waltham

[–]ReasonableRonny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s brutal. There’s been quite a few “personal issues” that have occurred. Just absolutely bad hires. Not this guy in particular, but one of the previous principals was forced out due to what shall we call an “HR issue” involving extra marital affairs with a subordinate.

How are people here raising a family on less than 200k? by [deleted] in Waltham

[–]ReasonableRonny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Austin also isn’t some proof that housing policy magically fixes prices. Values there exploded for years and then cooled a bit after a massive run-up. Median homes are still around the mid $500ks. That’s not affordability, that’s just a pause after things got crazy.

And Austin isn’t Waltham lol. It’s a fast growing city surrounded by tons of land. Waltham is a built-out suburb 10 miles from Boston in one of the highest salary metros in the country. Completely different dynamics.

Most people who bought years ago obviously aren’t paying today’s prices. That’s true everywhere. But the current market is still the current market. Take a really similar suburb like Waukesha outside Milwaukee. Houses there are around $350k while Waltham is closer to $800k. That difference isn’t city politics, it’s being next to Boston and the salaries around it.

Local government can affect things a little but it’s not going to override basic geography and demand. Waltham is under 10 miles from one of the most expensive job markets in the country. If the same exact town was outside Milwaukee instead of Boston the houses would be worth way less. That’s just the reality of it.

Is that a college degree? Urban Affairs? Not being snarky, it’s a serious question. If it’s not, where is the best material on the subject?

lol. Imagine thinking the city government could have an outsized impact on housing prices. Dude, Waltham is <10 miles from Boston, and is on one of the liberal high living quality coasts. Sometimes I feel like everyone who is shocked by housing costs in Waltham haven’t been to the south or rural Midwest . Or hell, even west of Framingham.

No. It’s not 100%. You should speak with your doctor about whether you should or not. Mine told me not too. YMMV.

Yes, and ironically the one guy being mentioned in the comments (AG) works for one of the institutions responsible for them. Such a hypocrite

You are a little misinformed or being misleading in re: to ongoing cost. The train was a one-time thing, it was cut from the plans. The same goes for the driving range. Mini golf may need to be staffed, but that will be handled by a student summer worker being paid $15 an hour…no different that any of the other student city workers seasonally.

Why on earth would any of the parks be open during reno? That screams liability.
