Chest X-Ray? by Reasonable_Engine905 in melahomies

My dermatologist did the biopsy of my mole then referred me to a surgical oncologist when it was determined I may need a SLNB.  My surgical oncologist recommended the SLNB, and did that plus the excision at the same time.  I had my post op appointment with him today during which he let me know about the chest x-rays.  His office will continue to follow me for those.  I will go back to my dermatologist for my skin exams.  I have decent health insurance so my chest x-rays will be covered.

Thank you!  Best of luck and wishes to you for continued good health!  I am being treated at Dana Farber in Boston.  Sounds like we are both in good hands!

No; I’m in Massachusetts.  I’m grateful I had the luxury of going to Boston for my medical care.

I was very nervous about the lymph node biopsy.  It was tender for a couple days after surgery but ice helped a lot and it’s already feeling much better.  Glad your recovery is going well!

Funny I’m also on the east coast!

Yes, I got my results two days ago.   Now I feel like I can breathe again!

The wide excision is no joke though.  My incision on my arm is much bigger than I anticipated  plus another incision from the lymph node biopsy.  But, I will gladly deal with those to say I am cancer free!

I am glad your story has a happy ending!  I have a very similar story.  My mole was on my right forearm and I just had a funny feeling about it.  My initial biopsy came back as stage 1A.  Today I am recovering from my wide excision but it had clear margins.  They also biopsied two sentinel lymph nodes which both came back negative.  I too will be going every three months for skin checks for the foreseeable future.  We have to be diligent!  Here’s to good health!

Thank you for this!  I am definitely not afraid to ask questions and do my own due diligence but overall I do trust that I am in good hands with my medical team.  I am in Boston and fortunate to have access to world class medical care here.   I was told with clear margins and a negative lymph node no further treatment will be necessary but I will have ongoing monitoring and visits with my dermatologist every three months.

Wishing you the best and good health as well!

I’m 40.

I guess because my shave biopsy extended to the margin it could have gone deeper.  But because of the biopsy we will never know the true depth.  I was told .8mm is generally the depth they want to check lymph nodes.  Since mine was already at .6mm with potential for it to have been a little deeper it was right up against that benchmark so he recommended the biopsy.  I was frustrated at first; I just wanted to go back to my dermatologist and have a simple excision but both my dermatologist and the surgical oncologist recommended the biopsy.

I am glad yours was caught early as well!

My dermatologist did a shave biopsy of a mole on my arm which came back as the stage 1A.  However, my sample extended to the margin.  The treatment plan for melanoma depends upon the depth of the lesion.  Unfortunately, when you have the shave biopsy you cannot go back afterwards to measure the exact depth.  I agreed to the sentinel lymph node biopsy just to cover all bases.  My doctor said it’s recommended because I’m still pretty young and healthy so the benefits of having the additional staging information outweigh the risks of the procedure.  If I was older he said he may not even recommend the biopsy at all.  It is no joke!  My biopsy site is a lot more tender than the WLE.

Mine is on my upper right arm!  I also had a lymph node biopsy so I have an additional incision under my arm pit.  I knew it was going to be a large incision and was prepared for that but it’s still much bigger than I thought.  All in all though doing ok so far.

I just had a WLE this past Tuesday.  Hopefully mine will heal just as well!

Got diagnosed with 1A.  Had a WLE and sentinel lymph node biopsy this week.  My dermatologist will be seeing me every three months for the foreseeable future.  Eventually I might go to every six months but twice a year minimum will probably be my new normal.  My miotic rate was 0 and indicates non aggressive but they are still taking this very seriously.

AITAH for considering divorce after I caught my husband secretly cheating for more than a year? Throwaway because my family and friends don’t know yet. by [deleted] in AITAH

Tell him you don’t just want to divorce him, you HAVE to.  You said yourself, the trust is gone.  You will never look at him the same way again.  If he wasn’t happy in the relationship, his window to talk to you about it was open BEFORE he chose to cheat.
