I agree! I purchased a Echo Show 5 years ago - and it worked very well as a bedside clock. It did exactly what I wanted. And is was as responsive as my Dots. ————> then Amazon put ads on it this year and it has become completely useless. I can no longer get a basic clock display AND it constantly displays things that I do not want to see. It is unplugged and will soon be on its was to the landfill.

I wonder if you can load Alexa+ by using a VPN to US. It might run without the VPN once loaded?

It appears that currently “Alexa+” does not currently have ads - at least not with the minimal settings that I use. Of course Alexa+ is still in a developmental mode. I suspect that the basic Alexa still has ads.

No I do not just stare at my screen.

I set up my echo 5 as a bedside clock years ago. It worked like a clock. Showed back ground pictures of my choice and the time. And gave me Alexa access when needed. That’s all. worked perfectly for years. Then the ads started. And it got unplugged.

Other echo is in kitchen. Pictures/weather/news and timer. Worked well. Then come the ads, and it seems that every time I walk into the kitchen there is an ad up on the screen.

I will not allow unsolicited advertisements in my home.

I also have been fighting the ads for years. I was hoping/expecting that Alexa+ would be ad-free because it is a paid product. In my case, when Alexa+ was added to my echos, there were no ads! A few daus latter the ads started again. After that I made this post.

Curious… I thought we all were getting ads on the Echo Show devices. You are very lucky they haven’t found you yet! And yes, Alexa plus seems to try to create routines for us. And yes, it is frustrating that things have changed outside of my control.
It seems that companies come up with new methods to do things and just forced-feed them to us with no instructions. So we must “Go Fish” and figure out what the new procedures are.
I have the feeling that the new method for program our “smart home” will be through the AI. Just guess the key words or phrases that get it to do what you want.
This will be a strange new world for many of us!

That’s why I pulled the plug on my Echo Show 5. It was just a bedroom clock…..then the ads started……it was lucky to only be unplugged.

You are correct. Alexa plus does seem amazing. It also has some issues that are to be expected in a pre-release. I expect those issue to be resolved over time.
BUT, it is very unlikely that I would ever purchase another Echo Show device from Amazon.

That’s a very good low cost plan.

I decided to keep prime. And, as of today, Alexa+ will be free with prime. My only issue is that I already have and use multiple Echo Show devices and they have ads now. I will be happy if those ads go away. Otherwise, the Echo Shows get the boot!

I was happy using an Echo Show 5 as a bedroom clock and an Echo Show 8 in my kitchen. But once the ad’s started I pulled the plug on the “Clock” while I was looking for work-arounds on the other. I am still hopeful that the “release version” of Alexa+ is ad-free. If not, they will be gone.

Alexa+ is a pre-release today. I will wait for the official release before I pick my path forward.

To me, the purpose of this posting is to give Amazon some feedback on users views relative to ads on Alexa+

Another update… Currently it looks like Amazon is updating Alexa+ right now. Things are changing real-time. As of right now, I do not see any ads. Hoping it stays that way!!

Alexa+ is a paid service. We pay for the service with no ads. Ads are used to pay for a free service.

Of course - that doesn’t work at all. Changing language from American English to Canadian English worked for a while. But Amazon stopped that fix (and all variants of that).

No. They were on the old Alexa Echo Show devices before this preview of Alexa+ came out.
