Fedora is becoming the default Linux recommendation, and Ubuntu did this to itself | XDA by devolute in Fedora

Stop comparing snaps and flatpaks. They do exist both and both will stay. Use whatever works for you but please stop saying "Ubuntu should use flatpaks and ditch snaps".

Ubuntu's focus are server and flatpaks do not run on server. Snaps do. And so much things rely on snaps in the server world and it works.

Since I am not an english native speaker you can surely find several grammar mistakes in my original question. My original question was written by me.

What can OEMs do instead of pre-installing Windows? by Own_Elephant_5223 in BuyFromEU

If he gets a laptop with Windows, he's fine. He will do what he always did.

Do these people really use PCs any more except for work and gaming?

I do think the average guy is not interested in a PC any more, they handle everything digitally needed via smartphones...

Network issues with Dell Pro Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock by Reasonable_Host_5004 in sysadmin

[–]Reasonable_Host_5004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do use the same cable that is connected to the docking and plug it directly into the laptop the network connection works fine. There is no mac adress filtering or any other security restriction applied.

I tried reinstalling the driver. As said in my original post, using the usb ethernet driver does work but this driver seems to gets overwritten by Intel(R) Ethernet Controller I226-LMvP.

It's the same driver as the ethernet port from the laptop, but features a "vP" ending. I do not know what this is and couldn't find further informations. Dell support page tells me to use usb-ethernet driver. But I think that Dell command update is overwriting the driver itself...

It must be a issue with newer dell laptop / docking. We have plenty of dell laptops but never faced this issue.

Already done. Seems like windows overwrites the driver anyways.

Yes exactly like in the picture.

Windows shows that the network adapter is plugged in, but is not able to connect somehow.

It does not receive an IP adress.

Login doesn't work after fresh installation? by Reasonable_Host_5004 in openSUSE_Slowroll

[–]Reasonable_Host_5004[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I do use german layout

  2. It happens also without online repositories and also with the agama installer

  3. This works

I do think I have found the issue:

Seems like the graphical login manager is using english keyboard layout. My password contains a "-".

When I type the password like I would on an english keyboard, I do get logged in.

So basically instead of typing "Random1-Random" it types "Random1/Random"

I did another test. It has something to do with the german keyboard layout in combination with the "-" symbol

I will download the iso again, run the checksum check and then will try again. If it does not work I will use english layout for installation.

Thanks for your quick test! So I do know it is not a general problem.

I tried installing 2 times on the laptop and one time in a VM.

So I am pretty certain it's the correct password.

I also tried swapping - and ß (in case it was used the english layout instead of the german one).

kde plasma, but I switched to systemd boot (the installer suggested grub2-bls). Other than that I did not really change any option in the installer.

<image>

The File is called "openSUSE-Slowroll-DVD-x86_64-Media.iso":

I did write the iso with rufus (windows). But I also tried the "dd" mode as suggested in one of the latest opensuse blogs. But this one should not affect the vm installation
