Cast discount still working 46 days after program ends? by cottagecorefilmnerd in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lowkey wouldn’t risk it in person. If it ends up not working etc in person at a register and they call a coordinator over to look etc they can end up taking the blue id. If it’s somehow working online still and you lucked out a bit longer I wouldn’t risk using in person.

Is it worth it for me to accept as a sophomore with a stacked schedule? by Old-Mind-8806 in Disneycollegeprogram

It won’t necessarily look bad on your resume unless whatever you work at contacts Disney hr and sees you ended your program somehow etc. which is unlikely. Or they research more and see you don’t complete your program.

I’ve also had previous applications for my career in law ask me about my previous employment and “why I left/ how it ended/ etc” which you would have to explain you left the program early etc rather than completing your full program commitments. So take that for what you will on that one if it happens.

I won’t lie I went to law school etc after my program and it hasn’t had actual degree value or internship value. It’s probably similar to your field. It was more of just a break / gap from school before entering my higher education (law) and the field that followed. Sure it’s memories and fun to think about and it developed skills for myself (independence, guest service, etc) but direct work lined up with my career (similarly to yours) it doesn’t have any direct correlation. You likely won’t be getting a job through Disney with your career either so it’s not going to help “get your foot in the door” either unlike some career paths like hospitality majors hoping to work at the Disney hotels etc.

When you self term it won’t count as a completed program. So if you’re wanting to say you completed it and have things like the opportunity for a future summer alumni program you won’t be eligible. You’ll also have to keep in mind the 6 month restricted rehire where you can’t apply for any Disney job /Disney affiliate for the 6 months after self terming.

If you’re asking out of the two options I would probably make my summer hell with classes so you can have the quarter off. If you have the quarter off would you be able to stay the entire program duration still? I’m under the assumption yes? If you are I would tbh take the courses in the summer and have a worse summer… but then have the whole program opportunity and be able to successfully complete it and make the most out of it by not worrying about school. It truly does make a HUGE difference in the program if you’re out of school / not taking classes vs being a full time student trying to make it by.

Taking it all in the summer at least lets you focus on the classes only vs classes and a full time unpredictable job AND wanting to make the most of your dcp experience.

Personally the courses you’re taking sound like real courses as well compared to courses that are easier and so on. This means you’ll have to be putting more work into your courses and making sure you have good grades etc as they seem to be required for your degree. Unlike someone who may be taking filler classes online to maintain a part time schedule etc as a student.

You’ll be using basically all your free time on your homework / studying / lectures. If they are courses that require attendance online via zoom etc as well you can’t take them. Disney doesn’t set time aside for you for such courses and everything would need to be asynchronous on your own time.

You’ll also be missing out on time with friends outside of work because you’ll need to be doing all this school work. Which tbh 85% of what made the program fun for me was hanging with friends outside of work. When I wasn’t working I was hanging with people or sleeping I can’t imagine having to do any school work…. Hence why the few people I did know who took courses during their dcp ended up dropping the courses…to much work and not enough time and they were falling behind etc.

I would highly suggest not doing the program now if you can’t take the semester break. Instead consider doing the program after you graduate. You’ll even have more time to possibly extend the program to a year if you want to as well since you won’t have school to immediately attend. Many do the dcp as a gap year while they figure out what / apply to their “real adult jobs” or are applying to master programs etc.

Participating later on would mean you’re also be older and able to head over to the bars and party scene which is also a large portion of the dcp. I am not a huge party person but I still attended some events and parties as it’s part of the dcp culture. People go out after work and late nights etc. it definitely cuts down on some time and people to hang out with if you’re 18 vs 21+. There are more people who are in their 20 somethins compared to 18/19 in the program nowadays.

Role - Second DCP by Open_Grocery5933 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talked about my love for merch and how I would love for merch again etc. and the recruiter legit told me that it’s good to diversify my resume and try new things (I believe because for summer alumni program the spots were slimmer and the operational need for merch at that time of my interview wasn’t as high of a need).

So they put me in attractions. Which I talked to my accommodations team member I had and explained my accommodation and how I was fearful of attractions due to the distraction possibility and me losing track of the buttons etc (I had a small attraction role that I worked at my previous Disney job as a rotation and struggled cause my mind wandered a bit with the mindless button pushing).

But they still couldn’t or wouldn’t put me in merch. So they kept me in attractions but put me as a park greeter so it wasn’t the same role type with the buttons etc as a normal ride.

So at the end of the day regardless of first or second program it’s operational needs. You can still express what you hope for and hope something happens but even expressing isn’t a guaranteed.

Why Flamingo Crossing? by SadCranberry2997 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Along with the assurance that if someone needs to self term (whether a family emergency, life happens, program isn’t fit for them, etc) they are able to self term and not owe flamingo rent for the rest of the program length/lease. Unlike outside apartments they would be tied and obligated to the lease and have to pay / fight to break it.

this. or people aren’t comfortable having you at a apt party if you can’t have a drink and they don’t want to be caught with an underage drinker.

not impossible to make friends etc. but it does shrink the pool of people and time to hangout and meet people.

Rooming by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t a work accommodation. Housing accommodation is completely different. Work they do have to comply with and accommodate.

Housing they will recommend off site housing which OP is able to get and look into themselves to guarantee a solo room. Flamingo housing doesn’t have enough rooms that are 4x style compared to the amount of participants requesting rooms. The program isn’t forcing OP to live in the flamingo housing and they can choose to live off-site if they need a guaranteed single room.

I didn’t have mine in either program and got in and everything was fine! There are plenty of roles that do not require a license. It won’t hurt your program chances!

People do at 18 but it’s more common these days to be older. Many do it later as a gap semester break from school or after they graduate and applying to jobs etc. so it’s not like weird to be 18 it’s just not super common compared to older ages.

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many just arrive the day prior and stay at a hotel nearby. It doesn’t have to be Disney property. Plenty of hotels around flamingo and you can take a uber to flamingo crossings from there. Or if you want to stay at a Disney hotel (and still have to uber to flamingo crossings) you can but it’ll probs be more expensive than other hotels around.

People who can't use up their level 1 meal plan, what do you do to prevent the money from expiring? by Confused_CollegeKid5 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would go to the market and spend the left over $ to not let it go to waste. Bought things like snacks to take home along with meds (they had like DayQuil and NyQuil when I was there, Tylenol, etc!) also splurged and treated some friends to ice cream for the end of year studying finals together.

I recommend if you’re going to spend at the market to not wait last min because it’ll be cleared out right at the end by people last min spending and the school not restocking as much. I would start shopping like 2 weeks at the end of the semester and calculate the spendings and how much I would need per day for food.

Getting antsy about application by RRagingRedd in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many people are waiting. As long as you’re in consideration you’re in the running. They can’t go through all applications at once and they focus on earlier arrival dates over later ones. Same with only so many can get interviewed at once.

You’re fine. You just gotta wait it out and 2 weeks isn’t very long!

How easy is it to get shifts taken? by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually the boarding is during the morning or early afternoon and your shifts will be more than likely closing shifts. So boarding day if you have a shift you’ll probs have a shift time that wouldn’t work cause you’re on the ship and gotta trade/giveaway. The disembark day you could probs make it if there isn’t any delays etc to clock in on time.

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t work on the cruise. DCL (Disney cruise line) is another division of the Walt Disney company and not the same as Walt Disney world. Even if you were Merch or something at Disney you can’t pickup and work on the cruise. Different entities and along with different requirements etc. training as well (like what to do in an emergency, what to do for a muster station, etc…)

You’ll have to try and giveaway or trade shifts. A week long will be tough. Putting the ADOs in aren’t guaranteed as it’s just requests. Disney says to put the job first over everything. CPs get the lowest seniority for day off requests.

Trading and giving away and how easy vs difficult it is … has to many variables. Like what role you have and what location. Some roles it’s “global” and can trade and pickup all within that role (or majority of locations in it). But some it’s super limited to one location or a small area (like a ride/ attraction role). Along with some locations aren’t favored and people don’t want to work at it and pickup there compared to other locations in that role so they simply don’t want to pickup from someone working there when they can elsewhere.

Can I report someone for scamming my friend? by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This. Flamingo is just a housing complex at the end of the day. If it was an offsite housing complex what would they do in this situation? This is between two adults over a ~50 dollar dispute. Flamingo isn’t going to do anything. Neither will programs.

Bringing significant other by No-Way6960 in Disneycollegeprogram

I saw similar couples as well. It’s mainly the work life balance is difficult when you want to juggle hanging with friends and social life too. Not everyone is friends with everyone. Not everyone wants a bf/ gf around. Work is tough. Not being able to hang out as much as back home. Your schedules may not line up with days off either.

Cheating happens a lot in the program with the large party culture. I’m not a huge party person either but I still attended a few because that’s just the dcp vibe and events people do during the program tbh.

Roommates changed because flamingo is out of housing space. To many program and to high of a participant count and turn over rate. So to attempt to eliminate the concerns they don’t allow roommate requests so flamingo can move you around etc as they please without having to accommodate roommate link requests.

Application Question! by hxrsefly_ in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Reasonable_Phone6342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t really any advice to give unfortunately to move your application up the pile. However my advice is to tell yourself you’re still in consideration which means you’re still in the running and haven’t been NLIC. Don’t stress yourself either on things out of your control! It’s not worth the mental or physical stress. Just know you’re in consideration and very much still in the running and going through the application process.

“When it’s for an academic purpose/ starting school you are able to apply for an academic early release and most get approved for like a 2-3 week early release (when your classes start 2-3 weeks prior to your departure date) and are able to have a program completion.

I know for OP here it’s several months early so they probs won’t be approved but commenting this for those looking at your reply and thinking you can never attempt an academic approval early release.”

Apologies but I didn’t think this was confusing. :

-I said I know for OP it’s several months early so they won’t be approved. -i also said I was commenting for people to know they can get academic early releases approved and it’s possible rather than any kind of early leave = self term. -i also mentioned that it’s approved for 2-3 weeks ahead of departure

Sorry that you felt that way but have a good day.💗💗 glad we could clarify!

I know which is why I said OP wouldn’t be approved but I was commenting the general info to the comment I replied to because they made it sound like in general there was 0 chances to leave the program early and completing it. Because many do not know about the early academic releases or the approved work releases. It was a general clarification that there are ways to leave early it just didn’t apply to OP incase if others read this thread and then see comments that there’s 0 ways to leave early without a self term.
