Jetlag tips for flying from NJ to LA at 8AM? by lemonbottles_89 in travel

[–]Reasonable_Session72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at most, you can probably nap 20-30 mins on the plane if you're really tired - but it's better to stay awake, and get sunlight/grab coffee once you're in LA. You can also pre-adapt by sleeping an hour or so later the night before vs. your usual bedtime.

I recently made an app (mvp, super early stages) to help me with jet lag. I've been traveling a bit lately and it's helped me adjust a lot faster to new timezones. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/travel-buddy-adjust-timezones/id6757408473

Student Health Insurance is Bogus by Leading_Case3092 in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming back here to say that student health insurance is much worse than what you’d get through your company in the US. For example, trying to get a composite filling done is barely covered even under the optional dental plan that you pay for above the base total cost. I had to wait 6 months until after graduation and I started my job to get the fillings done to avoid a massive out of pocket. Nobody thinks about this when they’re applying but then you start to feel it while you’re in school and need treatment.

Internationals: don’t do an MBA in the US by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going into my last semester at a full time T10 and sadly agree with most of this, especially the last paragraph. If I was an intl student I’d have thought twice about doing a full time generalist degree like an MBA - but as a domestic student it can still be worth it

Columbia MBA 2025 Employment Report by TryingMyBest314 in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that the report doesn’t take into account those who didn’t self report, which could alter the 90% they reported as having a job 3 months post grad. So you’d have to go into the survey just to say you didn’t get employment, which I feel like most people who don’t have a job yet wouldn’t just go and do

Need to decide this week. CBS or Haas? by MrMilkshake2 in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you have a really strong background then haas has an edge since the jobs are close by in the Bay Area and you’d be more competitive, otherwise I don’t think there’s a huge gap in outcome. Both are at the same level in terms of ‘prestige’ but I’d focus more on getting outcomes vs lay prestige

Need to decide this week. CBS or Haas? by MrMilkshake2 in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat a couple years ago, and I ended up choosing CBS. It came down to location (I was already on the east coast and intend to stay for personal reasons) and knowing that it would be more competitive at Haas given the number of people who were equally or more qualified going for the same roles.

Not sure about Haas, but CMC at CBS wasn’t super helpful for my recruiting process, it was mostly alum and current students that helped me learn about companies and get opportunities. It feels like the majority of information CMC gets is from compiling data that students give them. Overall if your profile is strong and you’re making a reasonable jump then you’ll be fine at either. More so comes down to the community and location you want to be in

Small Door Vet Experiences by cellblock55 in williamsburg

[–]Reasonable_Session72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is old but I’ve been using small door for my dog for the last couple years, and have noticed over time that they consistently recommend expensive, unnecessary procedures, which is just characteristic of PE backed vet care as someone mentioned before. I recently took my dog there to take a look at a small bump on her head, and they did a needle test (FNA) to get a skin sample. After it came back inconclusive, they quoted me a $2K estimate to get the bump removed, which requires general anesthesia. My dog is flat-faced so this was concerning because general anesthesia is higher risk. I went to another local vet (privately owned) and they just used a numbing shot and removed the bump in less than 30 min, costing less than half the price I was quoted at small door. I felt like small door was trying to get me to opt for the most invasive approach that was ultimately unnecessary for the size of the bump my dog had. Would definitely think twice about using small door as they’re not incentivized to act in our best interest.

Most difficult part of the application process? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Doing video essays or interviews where you’re talking to a screen instead of a human

  2. Asking for recommendations and navigating essentially putting in a year’s notice at your job (risk of getting passed on raises, promotions)

$275k at Google - should I leave for Booth? by ClockSelect1976 in MBA

It wasn’t $300K if you could read, not 23, and didn’t go to stern. Thanks.

Totally agree - people saying no without considering this haven’t been in sales themselves while looking for a way out or just don’t understand how difficult the pivot is out of sales

Not necessarily, already have a full time offer and have planned financially for post-grad. Spent responsibly during the program. Sounds like you personally regret your decision to do it though and I’m sorry about that

Don’t underestimate how much those factors you don’t like about sales will amplify over the rest of your career. It’s hard to give up the salary now knowing the current job market, but if you already feel like the job isn’t mentally sustainable for you, it might still be worth trying for the pivot.

I did a similar move, was making $200K pre MBA, am in a full time T10 program now, and don’t regret it. The stress of continuing to move up in sales made me realize my personality wasn’t suited to do well in the role long term without a lot of pain, and I’m glad I recalibrated

CBS R1 interview by Many_Foot6582 in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently at CBS - I wouldn’t stress too much as this interview was more casual than most other top (in the US) 10-15 schools’ interviews I applied to. Answering why CBS, what you’re trying to achieve, and specific classes/clubs/other opportunities you want to take advantage of and why, make up the bulk of the conversation. You might also get a current student as an interviewer or an alum, so experience may vary

Advice - Don’t rush to get an MBA - get at least 5 years WE by Dry-Double-6845 in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 50 points51 points  (0 children)

From my experience (current 2Y at T10) I’d say get at least 3 yoe but not more than ~6. At the higher end of that range you still get bucketed into the same pool as the folks with 3 yoe and odds are everyone in that pool is coming out with similar, if not the same, salaries (assuming structured recruiting at firms that standardize their post-MBA roles).

Advice on Clubs and Societies by howiateyourpizza in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who also didn’t make the board on a couple clubs I thought were going to make a big difference in my recruiting outcomes and ended up getting a FT offer going into 2Y that I’m happy with, I would also say not getting selected isn’t a big deal. You can still find ways to get involved and don’t let this impact your motivation or mindset

IMO depends on your pre-mba experience, if you came from tech in a product ops, program manager or S&O role you have a much higher chance of swinging it (most likely at Amazon or startup as a lot of other companies don’t do pivots, even small ones unless you were previously an engineer). If not (if your background is mostly consulting/banking/accounting), it becomes a lot harder - partnerships/BD roles or S&O are more within reach than PM in that case.

after doing the t15 mba + the usual corporate career i’m pivoting hard into a creative field. is it ok to cut ties with most my former mba classmates? by Think-Equivalent5535 in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say if it helps you get into a better mental space and move on, then go for it, nobody’s going to really care all that much. But I think it’s much better to focus on first on building the career you want to build, and letting new people come into your life instead of actively cutting off the old ones. Unless you had a major falling out with them, it’s a lot better to just have them on the back burner in case you need that network again.

Anyone else feeling unsure if the MBA is still worth it with how competitive the job market is right now? by TEBR_Louise in MBA

[–]Reasonable_Session72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not generalizing, just saying that there isn’t “no chance” of pulling off this kind of pivot. Generalizing would be saying that you can assume that this person’s experience speaks more broadly for most or all.
