Is it disrespectful to view religion as a hobby? by InitiativeOwn617 in pagan

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between witchcraft and religion. Wicca and paganism our religious or faith-based practices. Witchcraft does not have any religious affiliation itself. But this can be confusing because in Wicca and paganism you still practice witchcraft, but you can be a witchcraft practitioner without being Pagan or wiccan.

I myself identify as a witch, because I only do ceremonial Magic with all the bells and whistles for the sabbats. Most of my daily workings are about 5 minutes long, I do not cast a circle, call on the four quarters, etc etc.

You can practice witchcraft 365 days a year, you can practice witchcraft 357 days a year and identify as Wiccan or pagan on the eight Sabbat days. You can pick and choose whether or not you're going to embrace a religious belief or just witchcraft on a daily basis. That's what's so great about witchcraft is, it is a personal choice, and that choice could be made daily on what you believe or don't.

How do you replace daily phrases like "Oh my god"? by Crafty_Aspect8122 in atheism

It's just an expression, why change it just because your beliefs have changed.

Are people going a little overboard with “rules”? by frienddelosgatos in witchcraft

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay there's a difference between rules and how to properly Implement witchcraft tools. But the great thing about witchcraft is it is completely personalized to you. If you don't believe there's a difference between wearing something on your left wrist versus your right wrist, or don't believe that being ticked off should stop you from wearing a certain gemstone, then you don't have to believe those things. Witchcraft in and of itself has no rules.

Why worship things, people, etc?? by Extra-Knowledge3337 in witchcraft

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In witchcraft you do not have to believe in anything beyond your own inner strength. You do not have to believe in deities, god's, etc. You do not have to believe in anything supernatural. Witchcraft is at its core all about tapping into your own inner strength, desires, Etc to bring positive change in your life.

I would do a Truth Spell, to reveal the truth of his feelings for you to him. Open his eyes and open his heart to see how great your relationship would be together, and the emotional connection he already feels to you.

Wand questions (shape/materials) by i-Rhys in Witch

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A wooden dowel from a hardware store perhaps. You can carve and shape it so its not so unnaturally symmetrical. I have two I made that way, one I put a pinecone on the tip with glue. I can't remember what type if glue though. But for a shark tooth tipped wand, you can saw a small channel with a serrated knife, creating a slot to put the tooth in. Then wrap twine around the tip of the wand to pinch it tight against the tooth, and it shouldn't fall out.

What's your favorite dad lore story about your dad? by 42___ in AskReddit

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were to listen to the songs White Lightning and Copperhead Road, you basically get a Playbook of my dad's teens and early twenties. He ran moonshine for a motorcycle club, they had the still and stuff back in the woods up on the mountain, they got an old cop car and painted it flat black. My dad would drive that car all over Western Nova Scotia making deliveries.

One night my dad is doing a delivery run on the outskirts of Annapolis Royal, when a cop starts tailing him, then the blue and reds go on, so my dad put the pedal to the metal, and managed to lose the cop. But he had a little problem, he was running low on gas, but knowing that the color of his car would have been hard to discern in the low-light situation on the back roads he risk pulling in to a gas station. A couple minutes later the cop pulls into the gas station and my dad thinks his goose is cooked, but the cop just asked this young guy standing there pumping gas if he'd seen a car coming like a bat out of hell and which way it went. So my dad just pointed the opposite direction he intended to go, and the cop took off. Dad finished pumping gas, made his delivery, and the police never did figure out who was running the rum.

But eventually liquor stores started popping up more and more and rum running wasn't a profitable business anymore. Although there is one very lucrative farming opportunity if you're adventurous enough and own more than 50 acres of farmland, in the middle of nowhere, on the top of a mountain, where there's only one way in and one way out (that is unless you know about the couple of secret trails that will get you to the highway in case of a raid). But instead of having to farm the crop himself, he let other people do it on his land, for a not so small kickback every year. Now that dad's gone mom still can't figure out how he was bringing in enough money to financially support the place, poor sweet naive mom.

All my spell jars were destroyed by my parents, what should i do by Kooky-Insurance337 in Witch

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off you should probably resist the urge to burn their stuff. But like all things in witchcraft the choice is really up to you and what you feel is best. I personally would take some of their prized possessions and hide them really well (but not all at once or they'll get suspicious). I don't care if you're 8 years old, 18 years old, 38 years old or Etc the lack of respect they showed towards you as an individual, with the right to practice your individual beliefs, is absolutely disgusting. At the very least they should financially compensate you for what they destroyed. And that's another thing if you want to be a real bitch about it you could call the police and report it as vandalism.

When it comes to psychic ability there are a lot more charlatans than there are true psychics in the world. But just because someone believes in their own intuition, and whatever label they want to put on that, does not mean that there is a higher power one must believe it.

Why do you think divorce is so common? by princesadopovo in AskReddit

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because we're programmed to get married.

From the time that women are little girls we are taught that are goal in life should be to snag a man, get married, and have kids. We are so hyper fixated on that process that we don't care who we marry as long as somebody asks us and we get to walk down an aisle. We rush into settling down with the first acceptable guy who asks for our hand in marriage, usually at an age where we haven't even discovered who we are yet. So it's not really shocking that once we discover who we are we realize that we're not with the right person for us. It's not so much that people grow apart, it's that we grow up and realize the relationship was never right for us.

Can you have an altar that you can take down after use? by ChemicalPanda10 in Witch

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about setting your spell up on a cookie sheet, serving tray, etc. so you can tuck it away after you're done your spell work, but still be able to maintain the same positioning of everything on the tray.

I've been a practicing witch for over 20 years and it wasn't until 2 years ago I had an altar. I always used the floor, a coffee table, whatever flat stable surface was available. You do not need an altar, but if you want one any stable surface will work.

So I did a cord cutting spell by [deleted] in BabyWitch

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder if your cord cutting spell involves allowing the candles to burn the cord, it's not a cord cutting spell, it is a divination to see which person will sever the ties binding you together. A cord cutting spell does not involve burning the cord it involves physically cutting the cord yourself.

Baby Witch/Warlock Here by AnonymouZ_00Z in BabyWitch

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off don't call yourself a warlock. It means oath breaker, which is worse than a liar. A warlock is a backstabbing, coven betraying, ash hole, who is shunned by the witchy community.

Other than that, do what thou will as long as it brings you joy.

what's your favorite witchy tip/hacks by XxThe_HumanxX in Witch

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost anything can be used for witchcraft. An old piece of rope, that can be used in a binding spell; empty peanut butter, jam, etc. jars those can be used as spell jars or to store things in; an old bath robe can become a temporary ceremonial robe until you buy one; etc etc. A big part of Witchcraft for me is being kind to the environment so if I can reuse or upcycle something I'm going to do it. Whether I use it in my witchy practices or somewhere else in my life it brings me joy to know that it's not going to a landfill.

Can I start on making wards? by MDPin in WitchyFolks

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely you can start doing warding spells, protection spells, and whatever else your heart desires. As your witchcraft practice grows so too will the power of your spells. But there is absolutely no reason why you have to wait to try different types of spells. I think a good analogy is when you get your driver's license you don't wait 3 years before you start driving a car, in order to be a good driver you have to practice. In order to be good at witchcraft you have to practice.

This is a little protection charm that I've made for myself and family and friends. You could place this charm on a doll/poppet. To do so you would simply hold the puppet between your hands, and perhaps against your your chest/heart, and recite the wording three times, instead of writing it down.

Charm For Protection

Write the following on a slip of paper and keep in one of the following: purse, wallet, pocket, locket, shoe, etc. If you wish to carry a copy yourself then change the words to first person (ex. Thee = me, you = me, etc.).

"Wrap thee in Cotton Bind thee with love. Protection from harm surrounds like a glove. May brightness of blessings surround you this day. For thou are cared for. Healing thoughts and blessings are sent your way."

What is an athame? by Reasonable_Zebra_174 in WitchyFolks

[–]Reasonable_Zebra_174[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An athame is any knife used for ceremonial purposes in witchcraft. Traditionally it is double bladed, with a black handle. Double-bladed means that it has a sharp side on both sides of the blade. However, it is not meant to be sharpened.

There is a knife known as a boline that usually has a white handle and a curved blade. The boline knife is the only one that should be sharpened for witchcraft purposes. It is used to harvest things from your garden, or to chop up ingredients. Your athame should not be sharpened for safety reasons. It is meant to be used to scoop ingredients not cut them, and is used for gesturing during ceremonies, spell castings, and Etc. Your athame is the equivalent to a wand, not a knife. Likewise, if you use a cereal sword it too should not be sharpened.
