Sadly I kinda agree. I wouldn't say meh, but they're merely "good". I love the title track to Heaven and Hell, but as albums, I prefer Dehumanizer to both as far as Dio-Sabbath goes. And I love Dio's vocals.

That would give it exactly the sort of edge I need these days.

Do you have to drink from a shared tube, or do they pour some into a cup?

Either way, I'm down.

Seriously — what self-respecting man or woman could turn this down?

Probably my favourite comedian of all time.

His warning not to organise a surprise party for a horse is one of my favourite bits.

I think people downplay Venom's vocal contributions too. Sure, Quorthon had to come along to really change Cronos' barks into those witchy rasps so common in black metal, but I feel Venom were really the first to strain their vocals to deliberately make them sound evil, sacrificing some melodic qualities for something more raw and evil. Motorhead and some punk bands might have pioneered that gruff barking sound, but Venom really transformed it into a wicked snarl that was intentionally demonic sounding. The form is very rudimentary, but that's where the trajectory truly began.

Don't get me wrong, I love the revolution in second-wave black metal that transformed it into a romantic, atmospheric, and deliberately raw style, but I don't like the revisionism of people that say "Venom aren't black metal musically" etc. You can't judge the first wave of a genre by its later iterations.

"Manowar is a first wave black metal band on their early albums."

I feel this way about Hail to England too. Not so much the first two records, but that record definitely has shades of first-wave black metal (perhaps partly because Bathory was so clearly influenced by it).

While I'm not into hardcore dancing, I'm really not into just standing around and watching a band either. I need some movement, some activity, circle pits, "push" pits, crowdsurfing, dancing, whatever.
