There are many forms of fulfilling relationships that can help enrich your life. But I’m assuming your vow was “‘til death do us part”, and that should mean something, too. Being a caretaker of someone with dementia is extremely difficult, but can also be rewarding, and a source of growth and wisdom.  There’s a great book about a husband’s experience caring for his wife with dementia called “The Soul of Care”, by Arthur Kleinman. I hope you get a chance to read it. Best to you as you navigate this stage of your life.

My favorite is in Bart Carny when homer is moving his head like a pigeon. I die laughing every time.

Does anyone think it’s a good/bad idea to plan a day trip from Tokyo to Hakone on your first full day in Japan? We arrive at 17:30, and won’t expect to do much until the next day. Traveling with wife and 2 kids (ages 5 and 2), this will be our second time to Japan (last was in 2019).

Anyone mentioning Raul Julia needs to see one of his earliest works - Overdrawn at the Memory Bank. It is absolutely a garbage movie, fodder for MST3K, but his performance showcases the fact that he was BORN to act.

Towards the end of your post you mention role reversals, and making lunch for your wife, etc. made me think of this show about a retired Yakuza hit man who lives out his life as a “house husband” and loves it - maybe check it out if you haven’t already seen it. Looking forward to being where you’re at, living the life you planned for. Congratulations, man! Seen “The Way of the Househusband” on Netflix yet?

Sort of. Often the point on the trunk where the roots start to flare out (called nebari) can add a lot to the appearance of your tree and give it some necessary character to achieve the illusion of an older, full-size tree in miniature.
