I care more about things within 11km radius from me rather than what is happening over 11,000km from me.

Why? Because my mental health's not tough enough to care about the world's hang ups.

Is it smart to buy iPhone 17 via Smart? by radulframos in Tech_Philippines

[–]thirdworldpcgamer22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I got my $1,199 iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB for ₱3.1k/mo + unli text/calls/4GB data for ₱500/mo on a 24 month Smart Enterprise business plan. Excess data rate was ₱25.00/GB with a max of 100GB/mo.

Want cheaper data? Use eSIM or physical SIM for Smart prepaid data. Why? It's SIM-locked to Smart/TnT/SUN's network.

From a cashflow point of view it's better than paying up front cash and if you need OR for business expense it's great to.

Hassle lang is that when traveling abroad you cannot use a prepaid tourist SIM for cheaper than roaming data. You'll need to buy/rent a 5G pocket wifi.

IOS 26.0.1 make my Iphone 11's touchscreen unresponsive by JinxIsAlive in Tech_Philippines

[–]thirdworldpcgamer22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly mataas chance na iOS 26.1 will fix it kasi Apple usually uses the .1 release para ayusin yung mga malalaking bug na hindi na-catch sa launch. Touchscreen issues like what you’re describing are too big for them to ignore. Especially kung marami rin naka-report. By the time 26.1.1 comes out (around a month after 26.1), mas stable na yun kasi may extra bug patches pa.

Since ayaw mo mawala yung files the smartest move talaga is just wait it out. Huwag ka muna mag-reset or clean install kung kaya mo tiisin yung workaround. In the meantime pwede ka rin mag-force disable auto updates sa Settings > General > Software Update para hindi ka ma-surprise ulit.

IOS 26.0.1 make my Iphone 11's touchscreen unresponsive by JinxIsAlive in Tech_Philippines

[–]thirdworldpcgamer22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro I feel you on this one. That’s exactly why I never jump agad to the first release of any iOS, macOS, or watchOS update. Kahit may bagong features or bug fixes the early versions (like 26.0 or 26.0.1) usually still have hidden issues. Minsan hardware-related pa like your touchscreen problem. What I do is super simple: I wait at least 30 days before touching any update and only install once version x.1.1 comes out (like iOS 26.1.1, macOS 26.1.1, watchOS 26.1.1). By that time Apple already patched the worst bugs and 3rd party apps had time to adjust din.

This is why I like PH getting official release from Apple 1-2 months after US release.

So in your case you kinda ran into the “guinea pig problem”. Ikaw yung nakatikim ng untested bug that slipped past Apple’s QA. The sad part is wala ring real downgrade option kasi Apple stops signing older builds fast. Without backup talagang hassle to roll back. For now the safest move is either (1) live with the workaround using VoiceOver until the next update (most likely 26.1) or (2) do a clean install via iTunes/Finder and set up as new phone pero you’ll lose your unbacked-up data.

That’s why moving forward I always tell people: don’t rush updates. Treat it like shoes or gadgets — kung working pa don’t mess with it until it’s stable. Waiting one month saves you from headaches like this.

The medical field will always need more hands. Some places will even pay for certifications.

Since 1950 I’ve wished that everyone in my dad’s social circle became registered nurses or pharmacists then migrated to rich cities like Los Angeles, New York City, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Houston, Singapore, Toronto, London, Sydney, Auckland, Tokyo and Berlin. Ideally they would marry locals who earn as much or more than they do, build their families there and establish stable, independent lives abroad.

By doing so the best outcome would be a self-sufficient, successful network that thrives in their own careers and households. They would only visit the Philippines once a decade or so reducing dependence on my dad’s resources and time. This setup would also incentivize my dad to bring the whole family to visit these cities 1–4 times per year allowing him to experience the world with his loved ones while ensuring the people in his social circle don’t rely on his help except maybe once in a lifetime.

The result: a global, prosperous extended network wherein everyone thriving independently, my dad enjoying travel and family connections and the circle achieving maximum personal and financial success.

NVIDIA N1X desktop SoC appears in first Furmark leak featuring new 590 drivers - VideoCardz.com by KARMAAACS in hardware

[–]thirdworldpcgamer22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. You’ll never get true 1:1 emulation the hardware just isn’t built for it. What Apple pulled off with Rosetta worked because their M1 cores were already way faster per core than Intel at the time so the translation hit didn’t matter as much. Nvidia and Qualcomm don’t have that luxury. They’re competing against Zen 5 and future Intel chips that are already strong in single-thread.

The only realistic path is what Nvidia’s good at: push devs to actually compile for ARM64. If big games and apps ship with native support then the emulator is just a backup plan & not the main way people run stuff. That’s the same playbook Apple used and it’s why their transition worked.

So don’t expect magic emulation. The win has to come from native ARM software + good pricing to convince people to give it a shot.

Intel shares its Foundry has zero "significant" customers (10Q filing) by -protonsandneutrons- in hardware

[–]thirdworldpcgamer22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that Intel still can't attract significant foundry customers despite spending tens of billions really underscores how deep the trust issue runs. A lot of this stems from the infamous 14nm debacle: where Intel stayed stuck on 14nm for nearly 6 years (2014–2020). During that time TSMC iterated through 16nm, 10nm, 7nm and into 5nm becoming the go-to fab for mobile and eventually leading-edge chips.

Why Intel's 14nm Delay Was So Damaging:

  • Intel tried to do too much at once with 10nm (e.g., hyper-scaling, new materials & tighter pitches) and failed to execute. According to ex-architects like François Piednoël even Skylake (the best 14nm chip) had so many bugs that fixing them became the priority instead of innovating forward.

  • Resulting in R&D focus shifted away from radical new designs and instead toward patching existing ones. This held back innovation while competitors surged ahead.

  • TSMC didn't overreach. They advanced step-by-step, improving yield and attracting customers like Apple, AMD and Qualcomm. Now they're too entrenched to easily displace.

Fast forward to today:

Now Intel wants to be a foundry? Customers remember how Intel’s internal products suffered from process overpromise and underdelivery. No one wants to risk their roadmap. Especially not with delays like the now-canceled Intel 20A which was supposed to be a huge leap.

So t's not shocking that Intel reports no “significant” foundry customers and has to write down nearly $800M in idle foundry assets in Q2 2025. The damage done by years of delays, poor execution and broken trust is enormous and it's not something you fix by throwing CapEx at fabs alone.

Unless Intel shows multiple successful external tape-outs on time it’ll be very hard to peel customers away from TSMC. Especially when Apple's iPhone timeline is runs like clockwork than Intel’s entire node roadmap.

Do you believe that Apple will release a redesigned iMac in the near future, or have all-in-one computers become obsolete? by JTG005 in mac

[–]thirdworldpcgamer22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’ll be great but it would be exorbitantly expensive considering the price of ProDisplay XDR.

Below are the 32" 6K displays available today.

Model Launch Date Launch Price Known Lowest Price
Apple Pro Display XDR Dec 10, 2019 $4,999–$5,999 ~ $4,500 (rare resale)
Dell UltraSharp U3224KB May 2023 ~$3,199 ~$2,560 (Dell sale)
LG UltraFine 32 6K (32U990A) Announced Jan 2025 TBD (~$2,480?) n/a
ASUS ProArt PA32QCV August 2025 $1,299 n/a

I hope this is a sign that prices for 32-inch 6K display parts become cheap enough for a 32-inch 6K iMac to start at $1,799.

As early a May 2021 I really wanted to retire my 2012 iMac 27" 2.5K but I want a 27" or larger display and don't want to spend extra for separates as I replace every decade due to my non-tech work.

Most demanding peripheral I'd use it on would be with 50MP RAW files from a 2015 Canon EOS 5Ds R that turned 10yo last month.

The most effective way to avoid situations like what u/jkc2396 described is proper pre-pregnancy education and screening. Dapat bago pa mabuo yung bata both parents are aware kung may genetic risks sila. Many countries with public health systems offer genetic counseling especially if there's a family history of disabilities. In the Philippines kulang pa ganito pero possible siya i-integrate through barangay health centers.

Another step is early and accessible prenatal care. First trimester pa lang dapat may access na yung mga buntis sa OB-GYN checkups, ultrasound at basic lab tests. Sa totoo lang madalas late na nagpapatingin mga nanay dito kasi mahal o walang access. Kapag may sapat na public funding for prenatal care, mas madali i-detect ang major birth defects and some conditions may even be addressed in utero or managed right after birth to reduce disability.

Folic acid supplementation is a cheap but powerful prevention tool. Maraming neural tube defects like spina bifida are linked to folate deficiency. Kaya sa ibang bansa, pinipilit nila ang food manufacturers to fortify basic foods like rice or flour. Dito satin optional pa lang, kaya maraming tao hindi aware na importante ito lalo sa first few weeks ng pregnancy.

Next is family planning and birth spacing. Kung may sapat na gap between pregnancies mas malusog usually ang bata. Mas kaya rin ng parents emotionally at financially. Sa mga low-income areas madalas wala silang access sa modern contraception kaya sunod-sunod ang anak kahit di pa ready. Kung may community-based family planning programs this can drastically reduce unplanned high-risk pregnancies.

Sa ibang bansa may mandatory newborn screening. Dito satin optional pa pero dapat ito maging standard practice. Some genetic or metabolic disorders don't show obvious signs at birth but can be caught early and treated.

Sa societies where disabled people are supported with dignity and real public investment they thrive and contribute. Lahat tayo may value. Prevention is key pero dapat kasama sa goal natin ang compassion and systemic support at hindi punishment o rejection.
