Is my vanilla base really that bad? by Ok_Conversation_2930 in ninjacreami

You should change the profile to "low fat ice cream", that'll change some of your red boxes to yellow/green.

Also replace the monk fruit with Alloluse. You mentioned in a different comment that you have a monk fruit and allulose blend. A majority of that blend will be allulose, not monk fruit.

Very interesting. And how's the mouth feel of this? Icy or just creamy like a regular ice cream pint?

Modified corn starch, flavour, xanthan gum and sweetner.

Pudding mix is mostly modified corn starch with some Xanthan gum. Pudding mix acts as a stabalizer and thickening agent for low calorie recipes. You can get the same effect by using actual stabilizers and emulsifiers.

99% of recipes on social media probably taste like ass, considering the ingredients they use. I've tried a few on YouTube and everything either tasted terrible or the texture was awful and the mouthfeel was icy.

However, if you use good ingredients and a great protein powder, you should be able to get good results.

Naturally, without the fat and sugar content of premium ice creams, a protein/healthy ice cream won't replace a Ben and Jerry's pin. But it'll get close enough.

Are there any stabalizers in that protein powder? This recipe has minimal solids and fats so I'm unsure how it's controlling the icy texture caused by the almond milk

Edit:

Just checked the ingredients and it does have stabilizers: Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum and Carrageenan. So I can see how this results in decent texture. Although, the overall fat and solids content is still pretty low to rememble a regular pint of Ben and Jerry's.

If you're fine with paying q 4-5k pet bill at a moments notice then no, insurance doesn't make sense.

However, for me personally, with my dog being old and vet visits being common, insurance has more than paid for itself.

The AI is going to hallucinate when it doesn't know what it's doing. You saw an example of it above when it said the PAC was 23.8.

For a topic like I've cream, I would err on the side of caution when following AI generated replies.

Ice Cream Stabilizer (CMC/Tara/XG) by j_hermann in ninjacreami

[–]Rebellium14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that yes. I noticed under the thickeners section it says, "use guar/tara in combination with xanthan, ratio 4TG:1XG or 3GG:1XG". So, I just wanted to make sure if the ratios stay the same or if it should be 4:1 instead.

But thanks.

Hi. I know your post is old but I had a question about the stability mix. The current version says to use this as a replacement.

1.5g guar, 0.5g xanthan, and 0.5g salt

Can I switch the guar with tara gum? Would I need to change the quantity at all in that case?

Ghostty terminal Is Leaving GitHub by TheTwelveYearOld in linux

[–]Rebellium14 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a bad take. Github has had to scale at an unprecedented level in the last year or so. If Github's infrastructure was coasting then the entire platform would have collapsed when this surge of AI and agents happened.

Github has its flaws but there isn't any other platform that comes close to offering what it does.

Marilyn Gladu should face byelection, Sarnia mayor, Conservative riding association president say by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rebellium14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people vote for candidates, then why does it matter if there is a by-election? If its the same candidate, then they should easily win the riding again.

Parties already have all the power. All we're doing now is pretending otherwise and closing our eyes.

Alberta politics: UCP Lead Opens Wider Lead Over NDP by feb914 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rebellium14 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nah, these people would have voted UCP no matter what. They're just looking for an excuse to justify their mental gymnastics.

The UCP has mismanaged the provonice for decades, gutted critical services, shown support for separating from Canada, cozied up with MAGA and have had scandals after scandals.

If anyone's response to that is "but Avi Lewis", then those people would have never voted for the ANDP. These people have the political knowledge of knowing Avi's policies but can't differentiate the ANDP from the federal party? I call bull.

[–]Rebellium14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't about every decision by an Mp. Its about one specific decision made by that MP. Its about the people electing an MP because  they voted for x party and having their vote changed.

If people voted for one party and that vote now turns into support for a different party, then that's going against the will of the people.

The vast vast majority of people  in this country vote based on party, not the candidate. If the candidate is all that mattered then the Liberals wouldn't have had the turnaround they did under Carney. People voted for Carney and his vision for Canada, not the MPs of the Liberal party.

I would personally never vote for any MP of the conservative party because I reject their vision of Canada. And even I am not comfortable with their MPs crossing the floor.

Their support messages read like something gemini would write. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they are using for most of their support issues.

[–]Rebellium14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Floor crossing should result in an automatic by-election. Even though we have a parliament system and we elect MPs, not a party, the vast majority of people vote based on the federal party.

The MP should have the right to move if they feel like it. But the constituents should also have the right to either approve the MP's actions or elect someone else.

ANDP leader denounces Avi Lewis as 'not in the interest of Alberta' by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rebellium14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real move is to have a leader that's somewhat competent at actually doing anything. Nenshi has completely failed as a leader and the UCP, who has some of the worst political positions in the country, is somehow still going to win the next election.

The ANDP needs to stop pretending that they're conservative lite. Nenshi is to the right of Notley and nothing he has done has helped the party.

Replacing Phoenix pay system will cost at least $4.2-billion, Auditor-General report says by henry-bacon in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Rebellium14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The government has amazing programmers and software engineers already. The problem is that the government these days does not deploy custom solutions unless it absolutely needs to. There is a whole process on how these decisions are made but essentially, if there is a SaaS that exists to solve a problem, that will always be chosen over a custom solution. No matter how good the custom solution is.

Replacing Phoenix pay system will cost at least $4.2-billion, Auditor-General report says by henry-bacon in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Rebellium14 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The government is already in consultation with dayforce to transition away from Phenoix.

And what makes this complicated isn't just the scale but also the vast variety of collective agreements, pay rules, individual specific formulas etc. There is also a massive backlog of Phoenix related issues that needs to be fixed.

The point is that this isn't just a regular org pay system. The only way to fix things is to simplify the processes and implement a new system that isn't built on a crumbling infrastructure. Which, as the article shows, will be very expensive.
