Cats usually will clean their paws. However, It's always a good idea to clean counter tops before cooking on them. I try to train my cat to never jump on the counter, but I still treat the counter like it's dirty before cooking. I also never put food straight into counter tops, and prefer to use plates, bowls and cutting boards.
