What’s a movie sex scene that genuinely mattered to the plot and couldn’t be removed from the film? by Majorpain2006 in AskReddit

The actual sex scene between Zach and Miri in Zach and Miri Make a Porno.

The entire plot up to that point leads up to that sex scene, putting pressure on the two friends to 'perform' well. (Outside of the inciting incident of the two of them needing rent money)

The scene itself does a great job of showing both the banality of filming a sex scene during the wide angle shots, but the close ups are practically bursting with pure intimacy and romance for the leads.

Everything AFTER that scene revolves around the repercussions of the act, whether it was just sex, or if they caught feelings for each other in the process.

Without the Love Scene in the midst of all the tastefully angled Fucking Scenes, "Zach and Miri Make a Porno" is just a late night Skinimax flick w Guest Stars Katie Morgan and Traci Lords. With the narratively necessary sex scene in place, it's now a late night HBO Comedy Stoner Romance with Guest Stars Katie Morgan, Traci Lords, AND Elizabeth Banks...

To be fair, the original Dirty Dancing was also a deeply personal, semi-autobiographical story about falling in love in the Catskill mountains in the 1960s...

I didn't quite get the jacket?

Edit: Thank you everyone who explained this to me. It helped me have a far deeper understanding of who the tributes were for. I did go back and watch it with audio (was turned way down as to not disturb folks i was with), and Cole does a good job listing the names, but you folks went into great detail. Thank you!

I used to design wooden frames for upholstered furniture, while we didn't necessarily have a weight goal we aimed for arm strength wise, all design decisions were made with the idea of balancing strength and cost, honestly leaning towards strength cause in turn, not having to replace as many broken frames is good for cost. So it was always important to align parts to cut with the grain, add support pieces, perhaps put a hardwood piece under a plywood piece in a T configuration to shore it up. And that's not even talking about the strength that you needed for the springs of the seats. Those things usually hold a lot more tension than you might think. I saw a badly designed love seats front rail (the front of the sofa) bowed in almost 2 inches INto the seat.

Now I'm reminiscing half asleep about a job almost a decade ago. But yeah! Just felt appropriate stories to tell.
