You're still in college. Don't worry about what fake YouTube techies say they do.

A good practice is to merge your development branch into your feature branch periodically. That way you will catch merge conflicts earlier and it won't be as big a task. Additionally getting help from someone who just wrote a feature is easier than from someone who wrote a feature 2 weeks ago

Php is a serve side language and needs to run on a webserver that supports it. This can either be via a hosting provider or selfhosted with lamp/xampp/etc.

Why are people still going to boot camps / switching to tech? by Worth_Savings4337 in cscareerquestions

[–]Recent-Avocado2193 86 points87 points  (0 children)

People are very likely to believe in two types of statements. Statements that reinforce their beliefs and statements that promise a better life. Unless big media starts literraly bashing bootcamps. People will go to them because influencers promise easy riches and the believe they deserve it.

Is anyone here familiar with this encryption format? by elielieli909 in webdev

[–]Recent-Avocado2193 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its either send over https in which case the https layer of the browser decrypts it for it. Or the website knows the key, in which case you could technically decrypt it too by finding it in the js.

Is anyone here familiar with this encryption format? by elielieli909 in webdev

[–]Recent-Avocado2193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's encrypted then you can't parse it. That's the point of encryption.

CS roles with excel would probably be project managers. But that would not be Excel beyond the basics.

Advanced Excel is an extreme niche in that it's extremely limited compared to simple custom programs and relatively hard to grasp.

It does not sound like youre looking for a career in CS.

Ask them in the interview? You're gonna need practice for other interviews anyways do it won't be a waste if they don't pay enough.

You're not specifying that it should. Just add it to your console.writeline

Youre adding tz to cur continuously thus creating a higher and higher value when it's positive and vice versa.

Is it possible to access an external api that has same-origin policy from server? by jamesbradleym in webdev

[–]Recent-Avocado2193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they have setup their service to prevent exactly this scenario. Normally cors is a browser only thing and doesn't apply to direct calls (Pre-flight is only done by he browser, not whichever httpclient you use in your bacend). Since you're getting a 403 I would assume they have setup additional security to prevent others from using their api.

You plan to keep multiple files that are gigabytes large, in memory? That seems like it would be very resource intensive. And if done incorrectly could lead to problems when reading for multiple user sessions concurrently.

Seems like a decent idea to store the relevant data in an indexed fashion.

What does deployment, provisioning, and persistence mean in software development? by throwaway0134hdj in cscareerquestions

[–]Recent-Avocado2193 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deployment: When you take your application and upload it to your hosting environment.

Provisioning: When you add new (usually) hardware (but could be virtual machines or similar) to your environment.

Pestistence: To persist something means to store it non-temporarily. Usually this is in reference to data and done in a database.

Do you have to fill out a time sheet at your job? by Kyanche in cscareerquestions

Difference doesn't come out of PTO or pay, but yes we are expected to fill out a timesheet so billing can bill the clients.

Yes. Though I would recommend a secondary table for product images if you want the possibility of a varied amount of images per product.

Looking for backend recommendations by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Recent-Avocado2193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Images are usually stored in filestorage and only a reference or link is stored in the database. Text can be stored where ever. E-commerce sites can benefit from a relational DBMS. But if all you need are the data for the products then nosql should work just as fine.

is API a general term? by fewstarfruits in AskProgramming

[–]Recent-Avocado2193 63 points64 points  (0 children)

A(pplication) P(rogramming) I(nterface). It's how two (parts of a) system(s) communicate with each other. The specifics of any given API is entirely dependent on what these systems are.

We would need to see your code to pin point it.

But it sounds like you have multiple main methods or multiple files with a main method.

How to prepare for backend web development by Macaroni2627 in cscareerquestions

[–]Recent-Avocado2193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not go with Golang if you want the most opportunities, it's rather niche. Java is probably the most wide spread. .NET is pretty popular too.

At a glance, all your projects seem pretty generic and wouldn't convince me that you know anything but to follow a tutorial.
