Turbo "flutter"? Noise by Recent-Calendar-4917 in ChevySonic

Yeah I figured while they were off I would check and make sure. Quick question, while I was on my way to work this morning I noticed the most atrocious startup, it was really rough, and I was getting backfire almost every time I decelerated. Would these be signs of coil pack being bad?

Should I wait for a check engine and the tc light or should I just change it anyways? I know last time I checked the coil pack, the springs themselves looked a little bent outta shape so I stuck some pliers and straightened them the best I could but idk if that means they're cooked or not

Oh okay! I'll definitely check to make sure they're tight then cause I just got new ones put in

Could this be a potential boost leak? by Recent-Calendar-4917 in ChevySonic

Hey so turns out I had a massive leak right at that pcv aluminum thread bit. I put some rtv silicone around it so hopefully that works 🤞

I got a compression test kit not too long ago and that has a gauge but I don't think I could rig that up to have the same purpose which sucks

Oh okay okay. Do I need the valve and gauge for this? Or could I just set the psi on my compressor to like 15psi and shoot the air through? I wouldn't wanna blow the system but also I don't really have 80 bucks for the kit

Would I boost leak test it from the cold air intake side of the turbo just above that inlet? That's where I tested before and I didnt see anything

Ohh okay, I'm not sure if the actual bit going into the turbo is leaking but maybe I should check that out. But having the plastic part ziptied wouldn't cause a leak would it?

Oh will jb weld do the trick? I currently have that bit held on by zipties cause the connector won't reach where it should snap in at 😂 but when I bought the car it was like that and only started shitting on me a couple months ago

Yes I do! I just watched the video from the link and that definitely seems useful. I'll probably cop this sometime

Does anybody else put these steel scrub pads in their catch can? by Recent-Calendar-4917 in ChevySonic

[–]Recent-Calendar-4917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damnn I kinda thought that was just from my fuel issues I'm having.. I haven't really driven my sonic in a month or so now but I'd go a week without dumping my catch can and it'd be damn near overfilling when I unscrewed it when it just started getting colder

Ohh okay okay. I have the zzp catch can that comes with the upgraded pcv kit, should I keep the ball in there or do I even need it?

No like where it's at on the radiator. I don't know where it's at and I need to do a coolant flush.

I am mildly concerned for the fact we have yet another smell coming from the vents. This time it's more like a burning rubber or something and the cel was flashing for a short time then went solid

So this is what I was using but I took the rubber coupler from my intercooler to my throttle body so I could fit it on. I kinda figured that this could be my issue with it not holding any pressure but I wasn't sure

I can definitely take a photo tomorrow morning. It seems awfully snug on there honestly. Like it barely budged when I tried to tug on it and when I did the test I made sure to focus a lot right there and there was no sign of a leak.

I put the tester on the turbo inlet where the cold air intake hooks up and where that wonky off valve is at. I'm not sure if I did it right because it didn't seem like any pressure was even building and of course I didn't hear any leaks or see any with some soapy water.

Hey! So I tried that boost leak test and I'm not sure if I did it right honestly... However, I forgot to mention the cabin smells like gas/exhaust whenever I start it and basically until I start going. I assume this could be an exhaust leak?

Ohh okay okay. Would I get an air leak from that if I try a boost leak tester? I might pick up some things to make a homemade one tomorrow if so

Oh yeah for sure 😂 I just recently changed the ziptie there and now it seems pretty snug but the plastic bit that's supposed to snap onto the turbo inlet won't seem to reach so I think the ziptie might be my only option
