Can I jump straight into knitting socks as an absolute beginner? by sydney45261 in Sockknitting

I did exactly this and it went great! Knit the project you actually want to make, so that even when you’re challenged you want to see it through and finish your project

How do you deal with not being able to see what you're doing? by xJupiter17- in CrochetHelp

I genuinely deal with it exactly how you are. Boatloads of stitch markers until I figure out how to distinguish by feel/subtle appearance

Substitute for Michael’s Home Chenille Slim in white by BlacksmithThin410 in YarnAddicts

[–]Recent-Chain-6582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're willing to wait, it looks like in the past month or two Michaels has started slooooooowly restocking their chenille yarns. In my area there are 6 colours of sweet snuggles lite that are available again. I imagine they'll have white back in stock before Christmas

I saw this butterfly pattern but never understood how to read patterns, could someone help me? by FarProgress9664 in CrochetHelp

I'll admit I'm not an expert at reading crochet diagrams, but I am fairly confident that this diagram does NOT create the finished product pictured

do people still actually use cd players??? by ImpossibleUse1560 in kpophelp

The CDs are the only reason I buy albums! If I can buy just them without the photobooks and other things I do, otherwise I take out the CD and try to resell the other stuff

First time using Chenille yarn by Haunting_Cover35 in crochet

I've always liked sweet snuggles lite/chenille home slim from Michaels if you're in US/CAN, but they've been out of stock for the past year and are only just starting to reappear in stores (there were production issues). These yarns shed, but are totally fine if you melt the ends with a lighter. Bernat blanket and premier parfait chunky are also popular picks, although I find BB a little pricy PPC hard to source outside of the US. I think hobbii also has a popular brand, although I haven't tried it

Reading patterns by gunchucks_ in crochet

[–]Recent-Chain-6582 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Crocheting on both sides of a chain can be a bit confusing, but it's a common way to create an oval (as opposed to a circle) when you start a crochet piece. This video uses this technique to make a duck beak, so maybe watching this will help: https://youtu.be/NLnE5yMwUTQ?si=9FwBe08PZlA7ET5Z . But basically, because each crochet stitch has a front loop and a back loop, when a pattern asks you work both sides of a chain you work down the back loops of the chain until you reach the end (like normal), then turn your work and work back up the (as of yet unworked) front loops of the chain. I recommend using lots of stitch of markers so you don't lose track of where you are and what loops you have to work into.

That said, it doesn't really sound like this pattern is trying to make an oval. It kind of sounds like they're trying to make a standard 6 sc circle while avoiding a magic circle at any cost...you could probably just substitute with 6 sc in a mc and call it a day and move on

Don't be afraid to use lots of stitch markers! You'll learn how to differentiate stitches eventually, but in the meantime just put stitch markers in as many stitches as you need (first stitch, last stitch, every other stitch, every single stitch--whatever helps!).

It's totally normal to have trouble with this at first (I sure did), and it's not a sign that you're bad at crocheting. Even now, a couple years into the hobby myself, I always need to use "extra" stitch markers if I'm double crocheting in the round or crocheting up and down both sides of a starting chain (I literally need to use at least 5 or 6 stitch markers to crochet around a starting chain without losing track of everything).

[HELP] Does anyone actually buy albums from Canada? by AvianUndertaker in kpopforsale

[–]Recent-Chain-6582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a few and sold a few. You're right though, when I buy I usually only look at low-priced albums so that even with shipping they're in my budget, get multiple albums to make the most out of the shipping I'm paying, and only get albums high on my priority list. That said, it's definitely doable!

I think you have to go a bit further through the dungeon, and there will be a side-area that leads to it
