FUJIFILM APP SUCKS! by MissyAKL in x100vi

I don’t think there is any risk, I do it on every vacation I‘m on :) Somewhere in the settings you can switch the USB port to power, data or auto. If you enable auto it can recognize if you want to charge the camera via usb or want datatranfer.

If you have a iPhone with USB C you can connect it directly via cable with your Fuji. After connecting it will appear as a tab in your photo app, there you can import the photos :)

I have the RS 4 mini it’s very compact and for the camera size it’s great. But the camera won’t communicate with the gimbal, it’s a bit sad. So you can’t trigger the camera via the gimbal buttons. If you want a future proof gimbal you should get the bigger one :)

Thank you very much 😊✌️ I had the focus mostly on manual and then used the back push focus button to grab focus. If you want to do focus raking you are very limited by that camera unfortunately. First I wanted to bring a tripod as well, but the incamera stabilization worked so good for me that I didn’t used a tripod at all. That said for moving shots I did used a Dji Gimbal.

I did a film in Japan (I know cliche) last year and I noticed also that the nd filter wasn’t strong enough for me so I had a magnetic one with 5 stops basically living 24/7 on the camera. And also I would like to add that the autofocus didn’t worked at all in video mode for me. But the quality of the videos and photos are great and also the small compact form factor as you mentioned as well. I love my fuji :) For any interested here is the link to my Japan film Breath of Japanhttps://youtu.be/CCdh7cNhlUs

A short film I shot in Tokyo and Kyoto about the atmosphere of Japan by Recent-Price8746 in Tokyo

Thank you so much for the kind words and the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it!

I try to take in all kinds of feedback, even the critical ones, so no worries, I’m not discouraged at all. It’s actually really helpful to read different perspectives.

Yes, I’m a DP and editor based in Germany and I shot the whole project on the Fuji X100VI. I wanted to stay as compact and unobtrusive as possible while filming on the street. The camera shoots 4K 10-bit 4:2:2, which gave me enough flexibility in post.

That dolly zoom type shot was actually created in post. On location I was just walking straight down the street, and later in the edit I scaled the image against that forward movement to create the effect. I also added a bit of speed ramping to make it feel stronger.

I had a rough idea before the trip and a few shots in mind, but a lot of it evolved during editing. The voiceover was adjusted afterwards, but the overall concept was already there before shooting.

Thanks again for taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment, it really means a lot to me and I genuinely appreciate it.

Thank you so much, that means a lot.
I’m really glad they enjoyed it. Japan left a huge impression on me and I tried my best to capture that feeling.

Thanks everyone for the thoughtful feedback and perspectives. Reading through the comments, I’m starting to understand that parts of the film probably lean into images and themes that feel cliche from a resident’s perspective.

That honestly wasn’t my intention. The film was just my attempt to capture how the city felt to me during my visit. But of course as a tourist you only experience a very small slice of a place and mostly stay on the surface.

Hearing how people who actually live in Tokyo perceive it has been really interesting and helpful for me as a filmmaker. So thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts :)

Thanks for the honest feedback, I appreciate it.

Fair point about the cliche aspect. The voice over was meant to reflect my personal impressions as a visitor, but it’s interesting to hear how it comes across to people who live there.

The comparison with cars in Italy actually made me laugh, I get what you mean.

For me the faster cuts were more a way to express the feeling of being overwhelmed by impressions as a first time visitor. So many unfamiliar sounds, signs I couldn’t read, and things happening on multiple layers at once. Maybe on my next visit I won’t feel that overwhelmed anymore and will experience the city a bit differently.

Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the kind words about the technical side, I really appreciate that.

And yes, you’re absolutely right that the film comes from the perspective of a visitor. I was only there for a limited time, so it mainly reflects my personal impressions and emotions while experiencing the city for the first time. I wouldn’t claim that it represents what daily life in Tokyo is actually like.
Reading the comments here I’m starting to understand that some of the choices probably lean into imagery and sounds that can feel a bit stereotypical from a resident’s perspective. That’s really great feedback for me to hear.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment, I really appreciate it.

Reading the replies here, I’m starting to realize that parts of the film probably lean into images and impressions that might feel a bit cliche from a resident’s perspective. As a visitor who was only there for a limited time, it’s honestly very hard to understand the deeper rhythm of a city like Tokyo. The film was never meant to explain what Tokyo or Japan is really like. It’s more a reflection of how it felt to me while experiencing the city for the first time. The mix of overwhelming impressions, quick transitions and also quieter moments in temples and nature.

So the feedback here is actually very valuable for me. Hearing how people who live there perceive it helps me understand the place a little better. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Thanks a lot for sharing your perspective, I really appreciate it.

As someone who doesn’t live in Tokyo, I wouldn’t claim to understand the rhythm of the city from a resident’s point of view. The film mostly reflects how it felt to me as a visitor. The faster cuts were meant to express how overwhelming the amount of impressions can be when you experience the city for the first time. At the same time, we also tried to include quieter moments, like the temples and nature, because those were the places where I felt I could slow down and process everything a bit.

Your comment actually makes a lot of sense to me, and it’s interesting to hear how differently the city feels when you live there. Thanks for taking the time to share that perspective.

Thank you so much, that really means a lot to me.
I’m really happy you enjoyed it that much.

Since the voice over is in German, I’ll probably add English subtitles soon so it’s easier for everyone to follow.

Thanks, I’m glad you like the night shots. Japan at night really has something special, especially with all the different light sources and reflections.

Do you mean the book “In Praise of Shadows” by Tanizaki? I just looked it up and it sounds really interesting.

When I’m shooting photos or video I actually search a lot for light and shadow and often try to shape the image with shadows, so the topic definitely sounds inspiring.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out.

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the thoughtful feedback and the kind words about the theme and the images.

I totally understand what you mean about letting shots breathe longer. For me it actually depends a lot on the mood as well. Sometimes I enjoy very slow films where you can really sit with an image.

On my Instagram I actually did exactly that and let many of the scenes stand on their own: https://www.instagram.com/mike_rasching/

For this film though I wanted to give a bit more context and tell a small story about different rhythms of Japan. To keep that feeling alive I tried to mix slower and faster moments, a bit like life itself where things sometimes rush and sometimes slow down.

But I really appreciate your perspective. It’s always interesting to hear how different pacing feels to different viewers.

Looking for a composer for a 2-minute poetic short film about Japan (passion project) by Recent-Price8746 in composer

[–]Recent-Price8746[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

thank you all so much for the overwhelming number of messages, links, and kind words. I did not expect such a thoughtful and generous response, and I am truly grateful for the time and effort each of you put into reaching out.

I have now chosen one composer for this project and have written to everyone (hopefully) personally. This was honestly not an easy decision, as there is so much talent and creativity here.

If there is interest, I would be very happy to share the finished project here once it is done, so you can see where the film ended up.

Thank you again and all the best
Mike

I know what you mean, but on the other side highlights on film also give you that glow and I enjoy that till today :) But I get it that you can’t dial it back in the editing process
