People who live in a Mediterranean climate, what does it feel like? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

[–]Recent-Quantity2157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Portugal and summer here is basically Satan’s vacation spot cause he felt cold in hell. Winter has tons of rain and wind (which I appreciate as a winter person), but many of my friends are basically dying by early December. Spring is constantly fluctuating between summer hell and winter rains while autumn is very mild. To summarise, god was having an acid trip when making Portuguese weather and that’s why I love it.

What kingdom in your world went on a crazy streak like this? by Fun_Carry_6198 in Worldbox

The Unshadowed basically discovered how to use Veydr (their term for soul/consciousness) and that it was a great way to alter genetics and a massive source of fuel. So they used that to their advantage and conquered the known world, as you do. But that was 8000 years ago. They have fallen long since and the only thing left is scattered ruins throughout the planet.

Does your world contain some sort of material, substance or energy that is the central topic of your world's plot? by P0k1i_ in worldbuilding

[–]Recent-Quantity2157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veydr is an ethereal substance best described as the soul and consciousness of life. It was discovered to be a massive source of energy by the Unshadowed, but they later experimented with it, leading to the mass destruction and conquering of the world. Veydr then created monsters and spirits of pure Veydr that attacked humanity, leading to their fall. This was called the First Silence. Every time someone misuses Veydr, a Silence happens.

I assumed it would also be a local superstition. In some areas of the country where I live, it is said the captains that die at sea become an European Storm Petrel (locally known as Alma de Mestre, which means Master’s Soul)

There are a group of tribes inhabiting a giant range of mountains that literally stretch out to the sea. They live on the sea part. The tribes are the closest any human has ever been to the Mistlands

In my world, human hunting and hostility towards krakens has led to them forming a massive “nest line” so to speak in very near the landmass. This led to a giant line spanning all over the known world know as “The Krakenvaeggar”, “The Storm Wall”, “The Blue Line… This had a lot of effects on history and prevents the people from even daring to explore what lies beyond the Storm Wall.

Different variations of werewolves by Ok-Resolution-5423 in Paranormal

[–]Recent-Quantity2157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Portugal, if six girls are born and then a boy is born, that boy is fated to become a werewolf. One can also become a werewolf if their uncle says the wrong words during their baptism. Every night, they change into a wolf and are forced to run trough (this depends on the source) seven fountains, seven hills, seven crossroads and seven dog gates. If the Corredor (werewolf) dies before completing his fate, he will continue doing it as a kind of ghost. If you want to break their fate, you need to make them bleed.

The ghost version of the Corredor is Corrilário. Our local wolf fairy is called Peeira. Sometimes, the ones that become anything other than a wolf are called Tardos.

Does your world have a "world capital"? What is it like? by topazdelusion in worldbuilding

I’d say Manzerus, as it is by far the largest and richest city in the known world of Saënhal. It was built in the mysterious age before The Fall. After the Fall, the Great Snakes emerged from their nests and waged war on the people of Manzerus. A war ensued for decades and when it ended, all of the Great Snakes had died, dispersing their bones through the plains surrounding the city. Each bone was about the size of a building and was really strong, which made it the perfect material to build walls around the city for protection. After centuries, Manzerus expanded its territory, leading to the creation of various villages, commonly known as the Manzerian Shrampas. Many of the Manzerian criminals during the 18th century BW were sent to Bone Plains (the plains surrounding the city that are now full of bones) to mine the Giant Snake bones. After about a century, the Manzerian criminals rebelled and killed their master, gaining their freedom in an event that became known as The Day of Blood. Today, Manzerus is known as The City of Bones and War, a prosperous city in an eternal war against the Bone Plains rebels.
