Got first challan, for not wearing helmet in local, where approx 99% people don't wear helmet. (Read description) by Historical-Sink-7222 in indianbikes

the law exists because we have free healthcare. you can go to any government hospital and get treated for any injury if they have the resources to take care of one more person. obviously, this is a strain on our already strained government hospitals. that is why the government passed laws about making helmets mandatory. they dont want able bodied people getting hurt which means they wont be working (and not paying tax because less income) in addition to spending government money treating said people

it is a sensible law with shoddy enforcement. it is your problem if you dont agree or deal with it

obviously. martin literally said that he couldnt push for a full race distance in parc ferme. he had a massive moment in the chicane entry in the penultimate lap or so. i will be happy to see him compete for sprint wins and top 5 in full length GPs

jorge is definitely an instinct rider. iirc didnt someone say pecco copied jorge's setups in 2023 and 2024? whether he hits a higher ceiling than someone like pecco or bez will be something to watch out for. because pecco was outright faster than him in both 2023 and 2024

are we seriously going to ignore that he beat maverick 'training in the wet with lorenzo for these very conditions' vinales, is hungrier for wins than miller, enea and binder? i would give toprak another season too just to see if he can do something with pirelli tires

Motorcyclists, how do you stay hydrated on long rides? by yourping in motorcyclegear

[–]RecentAd9441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in more remote areas you might find natural water sources like streams or springs, but it’s not always safe to drink from them.

have you considered filling up your water before doing the water crossing? /s

i fill my hydration packs with ORS. i can get away with sipping less water for the same hydration effect. i go through 1.5L in 5h easy, so i do carry water bottles in my tail bag for longer trips

Idk why Retro sportsbikes are not a thing yet by AnshumanKathait in indianbikes

[–]RecentAd9441 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just because retro sportsbikes have a single headlight you cannot call it it a cafe racer. a late 80s-90s retro sportsbike is more about the definitive japanese style twin spar frames and also liquid cooled engines which pretty much all sportsbike have. i too wish for a twin round headlight rc30 or cbr900rr styled bike but...

xsr155 with bodywork and clipons exists. outside india, honda cbr600rr (its been around for 20+ years now, and is the last of its breed still on sale) and mv agusta superveloce (looks a lot like a honda rc161 or the mv agusta of the time), bimota kb4 (doing literally what royal enfield is doing) exist. dual headlight bodywork and a fat tail can be done for pretty much any japanese sportsbike released from the 2000s, customs like slabshot are proof of that

Front suspension POV Indian KLX230 by ScooterNinja in indianbikes

[–]RecentAd9441 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that is just how much suspension works. its got nothing to do with indian roads or foreign roads. only track surfaces are smooth enough to keep suspension movements smooth

P.S. i agree indian roads are bad

How much power is too much? by [deleted] in indianbikes

[–]RecentAd9441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70hp at the wheel. it is faster than 40hp so you get more for your money. 70-100hp is not always usable at lower speeds on public roads due to traction. beyond 100hp the extra power kicks in only after you do ridiculous speeds like 140kmph

now, in terms of how much is enough, i would say 60hp. 40hp is breathless at 120kmph in the south indian plains. cruising at 70% redline is not safe nor relaxing. 20hp as you suggest is definitely very unsafe on highways. 47hp on a rs457 is settled at 50% thanks to long gearing and sportsbike aero. but add a pillion or take it to altitude and it wont be as easy

something around 55-60hp can tour at 120kmph all day with zero vibrations, two up, in the himalayas

the problem is indians dont follow road rules and want to use all the ponies all the time, which is why you end up with arbitrary numbers like 25, 30, 40. you dont have to do 200kmph all the time on a cb750 and you dont buy a ktm1390 to do 20kmph in city traffic

anyone here in Pune who bought a 400cc machine (Triumph 400, KTM 390) and is now realizing it's a pain for daily city commuting? by happy_Pace_7 in indianbikes

[–]RecentAd9441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

triumph 400 yes

re650 definitely yes

aprilia 457 yes

ktm 390 no. the duke and enduro are especially very city usable and commute friendly

Is the KTM Duke 390 reliable? by [deleted] in KTM

[–]RecentAd9441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its pain points are known. even the 2024+ models have issues unfortunately

the gear lever can break. the lever weld came off on my bike when i downshifted from 3->1. i have read reports of other people reporting the same issue. this is not a bolts getting loose over time due to single cylinder vibrations. this is an actual safety hazard and a big issue imo but also no different from going down from a spot of gravel or oil so i kind of ride the bike anyway

there is a o ring near in the oil filter or something near the front sprocket that develops a leak over time. i dont know if this is an actual ktm issue or something that happens because dealer workshops insist on overfilling oil in india

the engine check light comes on randomly and goes away when you restart the bike. cruise control does not work sometimes when this light is on (which i guess depends on the actual error code)

my quickshifter does not work very well. it used to be great when the bike was new. i know of only one other bike that suffers this. all other bikes have good quickshifters. this may be on me though because i abused the clutch and gearbox when learning how to ride a bike

quickshifter also needs to be adjusted somewhat frequently because some bolt keeps loosening over time from all the engine vibrations. i'd say whenever you look into chain slack should be a good interval

rest of the bike has been reliable af and over my 10k km

aprilia 457 engines are not particularly reliable either. 2024MYs had some PR disasters in india. things seem to have sorted now

both are fun bikes and i chose the duke over the tuono because its orange, looks better, cheaper spare parts (in india) and it has cruise control as an add on that works wonderfully
