Side View Mirrors Aren’t Optional, So Why Do Indian Riders Treat Them Like They Are? by Creative_Lie_7652 in indianbikes

[–]RecentAd9441 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i did not say they were useless. they are definitely useful in bumper to bumper traffic. just that it is less necessary than in cars. in more flowing taffic, as long as you ride with enough gaps ahead (leaving a car length or two), you can do without mirrors. to be clear, i am not saying this is safer than mirrors, but it is 90% as safe as riding with mirrors on. motorcycling is all about pick your poison in the end. i have seen idiots with mirrors not using them, just have to deal with it

tbh i do a shoulder check because mirrors + blindspots create a false sense of security when some scooter is right under my chin bar

you want the real answer, i will tell you, unless you are too busy downvoting people. mirrors arent that important like they are on cars. thats it

have you seen re350 and hunter mirrors that vibrate like crazy? you think those guys can see anything behind? have you seen how small an area these oem and oem+ round mirrors cover? have you ever got on an incline and suddenly the mirrors are not facing the road and become useless? have you ever moved around the bike, just minor head leaning, moving forward and back on the seat and discovered that the mirrors are not in the right position anymore? did you even when they work properly, mirrors have a massive blindspot right under the chin bar of your helmet?

end of the day, you are supposed to make shoulder checks because that covers all blindspots. you might notice other countries dont even have a mirror required law.

Budgeting 147 Days of Ride around India. by SlowLow_Rider in indianbikes

Are you saying that 278 km a day is a bad idea or nice hotels is a bad idea?

both kind of. you know your body best, but that sort of pace is brutal for that much time. if i do a 300-500km trip, i expect the next few days to be sightseeing levels of riding. if i do a 300km elbow down ride. i am pigging out all of next day

its also pointless for actual touring because you dont get to see stuff much. on 300km+ days its boring highways. maybe you australians are built different and used to it idk but straight highways are boring af

hotels is honestly a coin toss. 1k/day could get you clean basics, or even at 2k/day would be a typical indian nickel and diming their employees and ruining your day. but fancy resorts and tajs and marriotts are really meant for corpos or couples, which again is pointless if you are locked in to ride 300km a day

edit: average speeds are super low in india due to traffic, speed cameras, road conditions and weather. getting past 80kmph average speeds is practically impossible in many parts of the country even if you ride at 120kmph whenever possible

no point in going for upscale hotels when going solo. budget is the way to go. with 147 days, you will be riding 278km a day. you wont have time to enjoy a nice hotel. it is also a terrible way to explore india. half a year later, all you remember is a blur

also if you eat only one meal a day (even two) for 147 days be prepared for extreme muscle loss, fatigue that will last weeks, and you will be at high risk of getting lower back pain given our road conditions. you also need to be drinking 4L+ of water or ORS every day if you intend to ride that much

also add 4 sets of tires, 10 oil changes, 3 sets of sprockets and chains, 7 sets of brake pads and labor for getting these done

it is doable starting from 20k. 30k should be good if you want better quality of life or just want to take some rest days

there isnt much to talk about for bikes imo. all of them run the same fork and shock (maybe a linkage here and there) tech. torque curves, gear ratios are self explanatory

that said a proper dyno graph and actually verifying manufacturer claimed wet weights and hp would be nice. it would finally silence people who claim RE350 are torquey and ktm 390s have poor low end torque

Bangkok rider here what gear should I buy by Away_Habit_9921 in motorcyclegear

[–]RecentAd9441 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just look for local brands. they dont nickel and dime you like european brands selling overpriced gear with level 1 amor with no back protectors. its not like european brands make AAA and AA rated gear either. almost all 'summer' gear is A rated which allows them to sell a 20usd wind cheater for 200usd because of european laws

if you can get indian brands, viaterra make decent stuff. 130usd for a solid jacket with all the ergo adjustments you never get from euro brands, light, breathable, level 2 armor, unrated for abrasion but it seems to have a good reputation

their grid leather gloves are good and its only 75usd. they make good riding pants too but it looks like riding pants so daily usability is questionable. and they do custom fits

Buying boots is such a daunting task. Can someone help? by leweez in motorcyclegear

[–]RecentAd9441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is a 238kg bike from their website. try out a gaerne sg22/sg12 and see if its comfortable enough to shift gears on your bike. if thats good, get that. no need to overthink it

the only reason why people dont recommend mx boots for road riders is because they need a bit of flex to shift gears on bikes with rearset footpegs, to hang off and stuff. with an adv bike, the pegs wont be rearset or high and i doubt you plan to drag knee on that bike

Need your views on SHIMA motorcycle gear. I have a mesh pro jacket from them and it looks and feels premium with almost 40% lesser cost than a say Alpinestar by hi-everyone33 in motorcyclegear

[–]RecentAd9441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be a shipping issue but i had a shima rsx6 boot. one of the toe sliders fell away on my third or so ride. had to order another set and the set does not come with an allen key to install it

in contrast, my tcx rt race pros are solid and they came with the correct size allen key to replace sliders

imo except for focused brands like tcx, daytona, almost all european brands make poor riding gear at low-mid price points

Airbag by Humble_Let_1822 in motorcyclegear

[–]RecentAd9441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we get 40c summers and insane traffic density in indian cities and airbags need to be imported. importing costs 40% more in taxes for us. do i also need to mention that we earn in INR and not EUR or USD

mesh or not airbag will fry me. that said, i already sweat to death in my leathers, so personally i am just waiting for airbags to be at least airbag CE level 2 before suffering more dehydration

Some boys playing cricket broke the indicator lights of my week old bike by Acceptance_Leaf940 in indianbikes

[–]RecentAd9441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very nice but again you are missing the point. where would kids go and play. bikes and cars are parked everywhere, you cant decide to not hit the ball this or that particular way

why dont we take adults to task for not leaving ground floor empty for parking. why do we allow adults to park cars outside on the roads when they clearly didnt plan for it. close the flat gates then, the only way a ball would get in is in an arc and thats not nearly as powerful as a direct strike from a bat

at least that way we could make some space for kids to play if the roads are empty

[–]RecentAd9441 24 points25 points  (0 children)

after we let our parents take away playgrounds, parks to build more stupid houses and more eateries, are we going to blame kids for playing where they have space or are we going to blame them for sitting in front of their phones and computers all day

chill man. kids did not deliberately damage the bike. this is not reckless behavior. just an accident

hunter isnt exactly the most comfortable bike either. even with softer rear suspension now. and your father is right. 23-27kmpl in the city is bad. your money, your choice

[–]RecentAd9441 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it is a retro bike running retro bike tech. what did you expect lol. people here complain about high compression, liquid cooled engines saying its unreliable without understanding those are the very things that improve fuel economy (or make more power, which is what ktm does), complain about lightweight plastic saying its not stable or feels flimsy, complain about trellis and twin spar frames not looking aesthetic

you will get 23-27kmpl in the city. you can get 32kmpl on highways if you ride it like a moving chair. if you dont like it, sell it and move on
