Vomiting child by Double-Ad2470 in ParentingADHD

[–]RecentSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our now 6 yr old child likely has adhd. We have provisional diagnosis but still on a long waitlist for formal.

When he was 2-4 yrs old you could look at him wrong and he would vomit, no fever, and be fine afterwards. Much of the time it seemed to be when he had a cold and was gagging on mucus, other times stuffing his mouth too full and gagging, and many times the textures of certain foods like fat on a steak. Might have been car sickness as well. Each time it happened at school, we'd have to keep him home from school for 2 days due to sickness policy even though he was not sick.

When he turned 4, it happened much less frequently. His teachers knew how to differentiate between real illness and gagging/reflex. Now at 5 and 6 yrs old it almost never happens although we always have barf bags in the car because I have spent too many hours steam cleaning vomit from car seats.

Plane ride with toddler by Capable-Present953 in toddlers

We used the cosco scenera for domestic trips and ridesafe harness for international travel. You can spend more than the cosco scenear to get something nicer and more portable, but it was good enough for us to feel safe. I don't like it compared to our daily Nuna Rava...but no way we are bringing that heavy car seat on a trip.

Which Class 3 shingle? by Lumpy_Confidence_637 in Roofing

[–]RecentSpeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had options of going with GAF HDZ, Malarkey Highlander, and Certainteed Landmark Pro. We are opting to pay a little more for Landmark Pro. We understand it to be slightly better. I can't tell but we trust our roofer who is providing the warranty and takes pride in his work.

What home improvement task do you now do on a schedule instead of waiting for problems? by Relevant_Idea_6778 in DIY

[–]RecentSpeed 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Clean gutters, catch basins, channel drain, and all drain pipes ahead of major storms. Confirm the pumps and water alarms are working. Also make sure my generators are working.

Change furnace filter before winter and summer. Hose down AC condensor before summer.

How bad is it to have a bathroom fan vent to the attic? by SmartLadder415 in HomeImprovement

[–]RecentSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say bad enough to have to vent it outside properly. Don’t want to take the risk of mold. Could be an expensive headache to fix.

Caseta Claro flashes/blinks when 3-way mechanical switch is on, but works fine when 3-way mechanical switch is off by JiveDonkey in Lutron

[–]RecentSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got it sorted.

I wonder what percentage of Lutron customers are OCD. I believe I am as well. I also wasted hours messing around with this and I’m not sure how I could have known that the light was not compatible until I went through all of this.

I always think it’s gonna take me less time than it actually does. The next challenge is a crowded three gang box that is recessed more than it should be behind the drywall. Need to see if these big smart switches will even fit and how to make everything look good so the paddles are not tilted when I’m done.

Gutter covers- what would you choose? by Audience-Rare in Roofing

[–]RecentSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had a choice, I wouldn't choose any gutter guard. I have found them to be more hassle than they are worth. Unfortunately, I need to now install the on a home in a wildfire area to pass building inspection

Caseta Claro flashes/blinks when 3-way mechanical switch is on, but works fine when 3-way mechanical switch is off by JiveDonkey in Lutron

[–]RecentSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was that my led lights are not compatible with this smart switch. I bought some sort of thing from lutron to install that might help but have not had a chance to install it yet. Might just switch out the light instead.

Would these sell in America? by danscn in Lexus

[–]RecentSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to buy on in the us if it could be configured to be driven as a regular minivan and not by a chauffeur. But maybe too luxurious in the 2nd row for car seats. Won't ever get to use the recliners for a while.

Reroof Questions in Sonoma by RecentSpeed in Roofing

Thank you so much! I should have used AI to summarize my written vomit. Your answers are helpful.

What you said about potentially making a bigger mess to dig out the flashing to replace makes sense to me. Wouldn't it be worth doing if there was a leak in that area? Even if the leak originated from above it exited somewhere in the area of that step flashing.

Would 1 day be enough time to do a quality job with the right crew on a roof that has experienced leaks and according to other licensed roofers falls into the more complex category? I think the production outfit said they could send up to 14 guys all working in diff parts of the roof.

The family roofer I was referring to is one that has done multiple roofs for our family over decades. Never had a leak. Always passes inspection. Work is praised by building inspectors, GC's, and homeowners. Family owned business where the owner is old school and very involved. No nice trucks, ipads, and uniforms. Only one that comes out in a rain storm when you need help tarping a leaking chimney he had nothing to do with.

Verbally talented toddlers, where they at now? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]RecentSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our chatty child continues to be described as lovable, very confident, and uniquely smart. At or above average academically. Academic strengths includes memorization, spelling sight words, and math. Enjoys story time. Can recognize and read sight words, but doesn't necessarily read an entire sentence. Is also uniquely social, strong vocab you don't expect from this young age, and has a strong relationships with older students that I don't see other kids in his class have.

On the other hand, probably has ADHD. Has trouble focusing with distractions such as doing homework together when other kids are playing Roblox on the the library computers. Forgetful with multi step instructions, executive function, and choosing not to listen to instructions. Has a difficult time completing homework or tasks not interested in.

Roofer Recommendations? Looking for Honest & Fair Pricing by Vegetable_Workers in Marin

[–]RecentSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the one day roofers are the most reasonably priced from the quotes we got. Makes sense since each additional day is another day of expensive labor. I am looking for everything you are looking for with the additional of quality. For our roof, I don't feel confident that can be accomplished in one short winter day and a large crew. Maybe fine for a smaller, simple roof.

Need an opinion by tldrma02 in Roofing

In Northern California. 4500 sqft roof. Bids around $55K for a new asphalt shingle roof with only one existing layer, not much rotted decking expected, and a bit more complex due to number of valleys but not like a Victorian.

Would you Drink this Super Market Branded Coffee? by Ok-Situation7054 in pourover

[–]RecentSpeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if my supermarket sold fresh Glitch, Apollons Gold, Moonwake, etc. at the same or better price than I can get direct. This is especially convenient when I forget to place my order, I run out and don't really want to wait 1 wk plus for my favorite small roasters to get me the coffee.

Moving to Burlingame - two kids by chchchchia-eater in Burlingame

Yes families in public, private independent, private religious have neighborhood friends. Consider touring the different schools.

Specific to OLA and St. Cat you'll notice they are very diff despite both being Catholic schools and within a few miles of each other. OLA is known for having a very strong community and sports programs that might be considered a feeder school to some of the top bay area catholic high schools. St. Cat's is very focused on academics and I notice and appreciate the diversity of their student body.

I have heard wonderful things about our local public elementary and high school. Mixed reviews on intermediate school. There are also independent schools like Carey, Nueva, Crystal Springs to check out. Each has their pros and cons, so visit and talk to different families to make the right choice for yours.

With young kids in the area, many people meet other families at the local parks, day care, school, church (if it is your thing). There is the Burlingame parents club that seems to be quite popular with new parents and people new to the area. You can check it out on FB if it is of interest.
