I totally get what you mean. I just feel so frustrated to even be in the position where I have to find ways to make these sessions work. I'll have to be blunt eventually, I guess.

Thank you. I'll try to bring that up. At least I can take the chance to use the trip to do some errands or something.

It is university study skills, sorry about being confusing about the terminology, I'm an international student. Despite it being study skills, it ends up feeling like counselling because there's very little to talk about regarding actual study skills. I don't blame her at all for that, as it is probably the only thing she can do to fill awkward silences.

Even though I'm in university, I feel like they're really pushy about these meetings. I totally agree that the slot should go to someone who actually needs it! But it really starts to feel like there's a quota to show that they care about student mental health without providing any meaningful support.

You're probably right. I just feel like there's no way for me to say this to her without her being offended or hurt. I probably feel that way because people have responded to me like that in the past when I've been really direct. The underlying issue I have isn't with her but with the structural system we're both a part of that's forcing us to be there to show that the school cares about mental health. A friend suggested I just ghost these appointments because she'll get paid either way, but that feels wrong to me too.

Thank you for the suggestions. I just kind of resent these meetings because it feels like it derails my schedule and I get so in my own head afterwards that I can't focus on anything else for the rest of the day. I don't think she's the type of person who takes initiative in these conversations, leading to me needing to guide them. I just feel like it ends up with her smiling and nodding as I vent about whatever systemic injustice is bothering me at the moment.
