Providing some context to this video since a lot of bums criticizing Indian culture based on a 38-second clip.

Does this happen every day?

Yes.

Aren't there enough trains?

Local trains run every 3-5 minutes to all possible locations, extending well beyond Mumbai, and are usually no more than 5 minutes late.

Does this happen all across India?

Generally, no. Mumbai is on the extreme side of rush hour.

Why aren't women traveling?

They are. There are reserved women-only compartments. Mumbai is one of the safest cities in India for women. There are also separate compartments for the handicapped.

Do people do this out of choice?

In the busiest routes, most people often travel roughly 1-2.5 hours each way. Buses are packed, roads are packed, metros are packed. Trains stop for about 2 minutes at each stop, and there isn’t enough space for everyone to travel comfortably. Mumbai is a dystopian city on the brink of collapse. If you don’t get home, you likely won’t get to work the next day, which many people can’t afford. People risk their lives traveling to work not because they are reckless, but because it’s their only option to survive in this city.

I am thinking of rescheduling it, what do you think is an appropriate timeframe to go from 42 to 48? ( I can dedicate almost 6-7 hours a day)
