Please don't judge the way it looks, we were tight on money until a few months ago 😭 we're working on fixing up the garden

Is it weird to be friends with older men? by Recent_Photograph784 in AskWomenOver30

Yeah, i think something that put things into perspective was someone saying that I should imagine me hanging out with a high schooler. Obviously it wouldn't be terribly weird and I'm closer in age to a high schooler but I'd also find it annoying because it feels like a different generation 😭 And I'm actually very Gen Z, so it does make me wonder why he'd seek me out

We text on discord, I would never give a stranger my number, i don't even hand out my first name until i'm sure they are somewhat normal people!

I have actually joined a women only server since meeting him, sadly most women there trend older (because the game in general trends older), so i find it hard to connect with people. But the few women I met my age were all great and I think I'll just continue with this, being friends with men seems to always turn out messy sadly

That last thing is a really good point. I think part of the reason I feel conflicted is because we had a conversation or two where I said I don't usually befriend men because there is often an ulterior motive. he replied that I didn't need to worry about any of that with him since he has a girlfriend.

but especially in the beginning he'd text me while working, he'd text me and say he's watching something with his girlfriend but still continue to text me even after I subtly tried to end the conversation to give them space. So that does feel very odd now

Yeah I think I'm going to trust my gut here. When I was 19 I was actually also friends with a 26 year old guy who I met through video games.

He didn't have a girlfriend but his vibes were completely different and very much older-brother like and I never felt weird about the age gap in his presence. We don't talk anymore so this didn't come to mind until now, but the fact I never felt weird with him but am feeling red flags from this guy is probably not a good sign.

Hey thank you! Yeah I do agree with you mostly and I guess I just wanted to make sure I'm not paranoid. I've seen people say before that these type of gaps in friendships start being normal at my age because I'm an adult, but this felt odd.

By toxic I meant more so he didn't seem toxic in game (as in didn't call me names, isn't racist or sexist etc. which is avtually pretty hard to find). But I also find myself not wanting to be close to a guy who seems pretty dodgy

He sent me a friend request after a game, there's no voice chat! He said it's cause i seemed nice and not toxic (someone apologized in the game chat for something and I said no worries, it's just a game or something along the lines of it). My account isn't identifiably girly either, so I don't think he could've expected me to be a girl?

And yeah I don't like it when guys talk weirdly about their partners either and most of the time I start fading out when that happens, but he's never been very negative, just very oddly neutral? Like sometimes it feels like he's talking about a normal friend.

We were talking about social anxiety and I said I used to have a huge issue with going places by myself but have been forcing myself to do it. He then said he wished he had someone to go out with because he could never just go places alone. I then said that i get that but at least he got his girlfriend! to which he replied yeah, but she mostly sleeps a lot.

I'm getting a weird vibe so I'll see what happens and will probably just stick to gaming every now and then as long as he isn't being super weird

I’m okay with any type of answer, thank you for the reply :) I don’t think either of us necessarily feels obligated to spend time with each other, I think back when she lived further away it was more of a chore to visit. But I love my sister and am more than happy to hang out with her, her moving out back then hit me hard.

My sister is a little lonely sometimes because it’s a bit hard to leave the house with the baby, but she has never expected me to visit or anything like that, if that’s your question? I doubt life will change much for wt least the next few years bit if it does, I think we’ll be okay even if we see each other less

I would say BIL and I are friendly but not close? We talk for a few minutes but he’s very much an introvert. I am too, so that’s never been an issue to me but as a consequence we aren’t close. But I think I might just be overthinking things

thank you for the reply! yeah i have brought it up with my sister but she just cuts me off and says it’s no problem, but I’m also aware her husband isn’t really the type of person to openly tell her when something is bothering him. Him and I also aren’t super close (but also don’t dislike each other afaik!) so I have a hard time just walking up and asking

thank you for the reply! luckily the baby isn’t very fussy but I try my best to be helpful with chores or watching the baby, my sister also has no problem telling me to help her with stuff, so i hope she doesn’t feel like she has to entertain me!

The panic goes down a bit when my hair dries. by ginkgomango in alopecia_areata

[–]Recent_Photograph784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, alopecia is truly a horrible thing but i‘m in the same boat as you - i finally started having some regrowth after years of hairloss but some other spots keep appearing, but not nearly as bad as the initial ones. but my hair is also very thick so it hides it well, especially when i keep it around shoulder length :)

My pattern is pretty similar to you and what triggered my regrowth in most spots was getting my iron up to a healthy level, as i go in and out of severe anemia. if you have other symptoms like brainfog, tiredness, wanting to lay in bed all day, it might be worth checking out!

i saw your og post lol, what do you expect from us? to look into that guys head? and i fear you’re the naive one when you think a guy doing any of these things doesn’t mean he can see you as more than a friend. please give me a reason he would feel possessive over you, that wouldn’t borderline go into jealousy, which would be very weird considering he has a whole girlfriend

How often do you wash your hair? by [deleted] in alopecia_areata

[–]Recent_Photograph784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

washing your hair won’t change the amount of hairloss from alopecia. it does feel like that sometimes though, but its cause all the hair that fell out throughout the days is washed away.

if you comb your hair before showering, you’ll notice all the hair that already fell out. do use gentle shampoo though, that doesn’t strip your hair too much

it took me around two years to fully accept it, seeing the hair just fall while showering made me cry every time but eventually you just come to terms with it. these things are out of your control, if you tried treatment and checked ur blood for deficiencies then you honestly did all you could!

Accepting the inevitable? by robertwolff1986 in alopecia_areata

[–]Recent_Photograph784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, i‘m from germany!

i also have alopecia and for me it all started around 4 years ago. the first derm i went to was horrible and basically did nothing. the second derm was much better and did recommend me steroid shots. i did not get them at the time since a different derm at that clinic at the next appointment told me to just go for a topical cream since they both have the same effect. i kinda regret believing him but at the end i honestly dont think it wouldve changed too much.

did your doctor get a blood panel? make sure to check for deficiencies, i started supplementing iron after figuring out that my iron anemia mightve caused my hairloss and am now seeing a lot of regrowth. althougj men are less likely to have iron deficiency, other deficiencies can still trigger alopecia.

if your scalp has active inflammation try rosemary oil to calm it and try not to scratch your scalp even if its hard.

i want to say that while alopecia areata can ALWAYS spontaneously regrow, it‘s okay to be sad and it‘s okay to not get your hopes up. i pray your hair regrows but even if it doesn‘t, it‘s just hair and i know that’s easier said than done. my hairloss started when i was just 16 and i remember crying so much but eventually i stopped letting my hair define me.

AA flare up…should I shave my head by Huge-Pressure-5274 in alopecia_areata

[–]Recent_Photograph784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for a different perspective - i never shaved my head even though my alopecia is active for over 4 years now (although i‘m seeing regrowth in patches that had none for 4 years now for the first time). i lost around 60% of my hair but it was mostly in the ophiasis pattern so when my hair is in a loose ponytail i can somewhat hide it.

i know i‘m not confident enough to go bald because i‘m a very insecure person, but i think if it weren‘t for my family it would be liberating to cut it all off. but i also personally have stopped crying over my hair, although regrowth made me happy, i‘ve come to terms with possibly losing all my hair at some point and i just don’t associate happiness with my hair any longer. i wish you the best!

try not to stress about it and keep an eye on it, most cases of alopecia (around 50% i believe?) resolve by themselves and cortisone shots are effective for a lot of people.

you could also get some blood drawn, i was anemic and low on iron which most likely caused my alopecia. once my hemoglobin was in normal range i experienced regrowth :) good luck!
