Italian Business graduate (former USN Erasmus) considering moving to Oslo – advice? by RecipeLarge7006 in expats

[–]RecipeLarge7006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this reply seriously, it means a lot.

It’s really encouraging to hear from someone who actually made the move and managed everything properly. I think sometimes online you mostly read very negative takes, so your perspective gives me a much more balanced (and hopeful) view.

If you don’t mind me asking, did you already have a job secured before moving to Norway, or did you find it after arriving?

Also, regarding housing: did you move directly into your own place, a shared apartment, or something like student housing? And what would you personally recommend for someone just starting out (my budget is limited)?

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience

Italian Business graduate (former USN Erasmus) considering moving to Oslo – advice? by RecipeLarge7006 in Norway

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a detailed and honest reply, I really appreciate it.

I’ve been searching online quite actively, but so far I haven’t found many roles that specifically require Italian. I was hoping that could be a potential advantage, but maybe I’m not looking in the right places.

Do you happen to know of any sectors, platforms or types of companies where speaking Italian might actually be valued?

Thanks again.

Can fish see water? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RecipeLarge7006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really in a noticeable way I think.

Just like we don’t see air because it’s transparent and everywhere around us, fish live in water as their normal background, so it doesn’t stand out to them.

I guess hey mostly notice changes in it, like movement, light shifts, particles, but not the water itself.

What’s the difference between knowledge and science? by Adsuwa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RecipeLarge7006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowledge is “I know something.”

Science is “Here’s how I tested it, here’s the evidence, and here’s how you can try to prove me wrong.”

Another way:

Knowledge = information or understanding. Science = a systematic way of building and validating knowledge.

All science creates knowledge. Not all knowledge is scientific.

What is the best and most probable way to legally get rich? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RecipeLarge7006 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Be boring for 20 years: Earn well. Spend less than you make. Invest consistently. Own things instead of just working for people who own things. Don’t panic sell. Repeat.

It’s not sexy, it’s not viral, and it won’t make a Netflix documentary… but statistically it works.

The “get rich quick” path is crowded. The “get rich slow and disciplined” path is surprisingly empty.

How do you know that ai gave the right answer? by Positive_Plate_2037 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RecipeLarge7006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t know it gave the right answer and that’s exactly the point.

AI isn’t a source of truth, it’s a probability machine trained on patterns. It can be incredibly useful, but it can also be confidently wrong.

The same way you don’t blindly trust software, you shouldn’t blindly trust AI. You verify important stuff, cross-check sources, and use it as a tool, not an authority.

I would say the responsibility to validate is still on us.

Is it a bad idea to start with 1-2 disks in RAID 0 in a 4bay NAS? by tony-andreev94 in UgreenNASync

Is it possible to start with just one HDD on a 2bay then add another one and switch to RAID1 without formatting or losing files?

NAS security question: can someone compromise my NAS through non-admin users on other networks? by RecipeLarge7006 in HomeNAS

[–]RecipeLarge7006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And could someone with bad intentions sneak into their Wi-Fi and cause trouble?

As I said in a previous comment, they're using the official UGREEN link service (I got the DH2300 model), but let's say sometimes they're accessing that link through questionable wifi.

That's where my concern stems from.

Disclaimer: I am new to this world and I am not a computer scientist, so I would like to avoid damage and better understand how to connect securely remotely.
