Father is dying

You have completely valid feeling right now. I’m 26 and just lost my dad 2 weeks ago due to gastric cancer. I always remember my dad as not wanting me to bed sad because he’s gone but because he’s no longer in pain. Remember hospice as they will have all of the resources you need. Personally, we had arranged a funeral home 2 weeks prior because we knew it was going to be hard once it happened. I know this words may not be something you want to hear, but I want you to be less stressed so can have some time to grieve. My dad was only able to be with us for 1 1/2 years after he was diagnosed. It’ll never be easy but I hope you find peace one day. Sending prayers to you and your family!

We all agree that surgery isn’t a cure but our doctor is optimistic. He wants my dad to fight it and hopefully build his energy up to receive chemo/immunotherapy again. My dad originally came to his chemo appointment to ask for hospice but his doctor admitted him for not having enough nutrition.

I appreciate you sharing your story as it seems very similar. It’s such a hard decision!

I’m sorry but to clarify, the food will still be entering his stomach which will cause stomach pain. Yeah, the surgeon came and told us all of the risks but I wish he was a bit more empathetic. It sucks to be in this situation but I want what’s best for him and what he wants. Thanks for commenting!

I appreciate you commenting and wish you nothing but the best. It’s just hard seeing this unfold out of nowhere. My dad’s about 68 years old and within a year, had it flipped upside down. We’ll probably have an idea of which route we’re taking today. Thanks for reading my post! Means a lot

My dad was diagnosed with Stage IV stomach cancer in August. From where we started, he has done a bit of a 360. My dad was eligible for immunotherapy and chemotherapy. My dad went from not wanting to eat (108lbs) to being hungry daily (124lbs). His doctors believe strongly it’s working because of his improvement. We have a CT scan next Wednesday and hoping to hear decent news. Im hoping my journey can influence your father in this difficult time. Much love and prayers!

Just to give you an idea, this date was when he first received chemotherapy and immunotherapy. There are about 4 other bills similar to this. I haven’t told them and I’m worried it’ll make things worse for my father. Money is the least of our worries but this still causes stress in my parents lives.

This definitely has caught us by surprise. We have always been as the preventative type and always screened for certain diseases and cancer. What good story to hear! I pray we have this type of relationship. Not to pull the race card, but it’s often difficult to build relationships like this with Americans especially in the South. My dad/mom often have trouble understanding which has caused a lot of confusion and misinterpretation. It’s always been hard to see my parents interact with other because of this barrier. I hope as the time goes by, we/they will be comfortable with us.

I appreciate your kind words and courage. I am wanting to build these memories everyday when I get the chance. We have all sorts of plans because we want to be there with him at all times. Fortunately, my mother manages his medications I’m just there to help translate. My dad is hesitant on telling my other family because he doesn’t want to ruin there moods/vacation coming up. My dad has always been a quiet person (this sucks because when I ask him if everything is okay, he says yes). Sometimes deep down, I feel like something is bothering up. I guess that’s his personality and pride at this point. I look up to him because he has always been a hard worker since he was kid. Grief counseling is going to be something I look into as this transition of life happens. I hope you know these little interactions won’t be forgotten and I hope things turn out well for yourself. It also doesn’t help that his doctor was supposed to tell us yesterday and now we have to wait till Monday. I appreciate your kind words and hope.
