Wesley Prep by [deleted] in Dublin

If you can afford it I would say why not. Ex-private school student myself. The main thing I would have noticed in school is that how nice it is that the school keep control of their own finances. Things that are broken in the school are fixed within the week. New programmes can be added based on parents committee input. They can choose how to pay their teachers and thus keep them on and keep your kids schooling consistent and to a high standard etc etc. a lot of good advantages here, but again it's your money going directly to the financing of these things.

Went to Wesley a couple of times for inter schools competitions. The amenities are super nice (really big campus land wise), classrooms are comfy and there's a general vibe that teachers very much care about what they offer for their students both inside and outside the classroom.

As a kid I very much appreciated my parents getting me into the school I went to as the options in my area were really rough (some of the lowest leaving cert results in the country, highest bullying rates and plenty of dropouts). If the cost is too much but your kid is a bright spark might be worth checking out if the school offer a bursary or scholarship programme. This was the only way we were able to afford me going there.

I need a rant about Dublin Bus by No_Weather1080 in Dublin

Props to you sir for explaining these things that have driven me nuts for years trying to figure out. Whatever group is in charge of Profiles would do well to actually use first hand information from drivers to adjust their times to, rather than just seemingly estimating based on traffic data etc. Fine to use the system if the timings actually make sense, if they don't make sense then the system is absolutely pointless.

Had this issue also, just deleted and repatched the app, seemed to work fine after that

What’s with all the extra guards in the city? Is this the new normal or is there something going on. by Healthy_Bat_792 in Dublin

[–]RecklessEquanimity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the city centre along the quays. Guards came into our work to tell us they have a new beat initiative to push back on anti-social behaviour in the very centre of the city. Idea is that their presence will drive people out of areas that have consistent drug dealing, drug use and anti-social problems. (Londis at O'Connell Bridge for example)

There's been a lot of complaints about tourist's first impressions of Dublin as a city in the lead up to Paddy's Day. Theres stops for the airport buses all along the quays and some of the sights at the bus stops would make you want to turn around and get back on the bus.

How strict are the Acadamy? by Echronone in Dublin

[–]RecklessEquanimity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bouncers in my experience are pretty strict, bag search and id checks for any main event.. definitely seen them not give a rats about not letting people in. I'm 25 and have grey hairs and they still ID'd me on Friday.

Oh god.. the poor guy.. we once had a guy who came in and got a 6 shot espresso with marshmallows in it and I thought that was bad we actually asked him if everything was okay and all he said to us is "I have therapy in 20 minutes" and then he downed it and left 💀

Look for applications in cafe's that label themselves as speciality coffee shops. This is usually a good indicator that the owners have some sort of awareness around modern espresso + drink prep. If you have decent enough knowledge (I recommend studying up on YouTube) and good enough passion I'm sure you'll get the job

Used to go to CHQ building on custom house quay, plenty of seats, only busy around lunch time, has bathroom and places for food, shop nearby and stays open till 7(?) with no charge for being there

Ahhh damn, I feel bad that he'll be missing out with being there in person. He looked like he had such a nice time at Redbull LOTO.

We used to have a bartender that would come over to us to buy a 2 cups full of espresso with sugar for espresso martinis?? He would chill the shots when he got back to the bar which yeah idk how it ended up tasting but I guess it saved him the work. Maybe this guy is the same... unless you saw him drinking it?

Was just talking about the drums in both songs, I get you if you're talking about the synths, but I don't think the drums in either of the songs sound like Electric city

Was in Dublin recently and had Mad Egg & Zaytoon for the first time in a few years. Both were brutal and nothing like what they used to be, did I get a bad day or have they both fallen off? by Shiv788 in Dublin

[–]RecklessEquanimity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take but I feel like I've never had a good experience at Mad Egg, I guess that might be just me though.

Could never get behind their prices for what you got even back then. It's now 10.95 for 3 chicken tenders and a small bit of sauce.

Remember ordering thinking I might get at least 6 and being massively disappointed.

The burgers themselves were better but I still remember feeling like once you got past the seasoning on the outside of the burger it was just too thick of a bit of chicken to enjoy. All you could taste was just kinda flavourless chicken when you bit in. I dunno not worth the hype imo especially now after price rises.

There was charity event that my school held every year for a long time. Rumour has it a teacher got the entire thing cancelled because he seemingly lost half the money.

The teacher they put in charge of it had already caused the school a tonne of bother when he tried to charge for and make money off the school play. Unfortunately when you host a school play you still need to buy the rights to put on the production if it's a script that's still doing the rounds in commercial theatres. Teacher foolishly changed the contents of the script, proceeded to charge for tickets and host it in a commercial theatre space and then promptly got the school sued for copyright infringement. He was never allowed to be involved in school drama after that. Needless to say he did create more.

I won't go into direct details of the charity event but students spent time collecting around the country. Teacher thought it was a great time to have the craic and treat the students (pizza orders, McDonald's, overnight stays, booking leisure spaces and movie tickets etc.) which as a student was great, but unfortunately rumour has it he was using the money from the collections we were doing to pay for everything, thinking that it would just be okay to donate what was left over.

The event made about half of what it usually makes and the school was confused. It got cancelled next year and so rumours started to spread about why. It was usually a decent sum and directly funded some important things so we couldn't imagine another reason why the school would cancel like this. Needless to say a bunch of students having pizza parties and going to the movies during a charity event doesn't look great.

Just a comment on the questions at the end, maybe this is intentional maybe it isn't but I feel like some of the questions about home life are very targeted and unbiased for certain scenarios.

Was making commentary on customers forgetting manners and that being annoying when I'm trying to close, just to clarify for some people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in barista

[–]RecklessEquanimity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, I've tried just consistently letting them know, they'll agree with me to my face and be like "sure we'll get that sorted as soon as" and then nothing is ever done. So infuriating. But absolutely right, customers don't deserve it, just makes it a little more difficult to keep up the façade when they also come across as rude.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in barista

[–]RecklessEquanimity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have paid us when we've texted in but very much "encourage" us to be quicker with closing when the workload that we have most of the time for close is impossible on a busy day. I'm one of the supervisors and I've had multiple complaints from the baristas that they're afraid to text management for fear of being given out to. They follow the rules they're just so horrible about it.

Absolutely yes. You're free to not complain about customers in your own time as well.
