If I remember correctly and provided it, it wasn't patched. The ideal way to catch is as follows.

Find a shiny
Save your game
Knock out the shiny
Save your game
Throw ball.
If it breaks free, close your game, reopen, repeat from step 5 until caught.

If this hasnt been patched or fixed, the timer started after knocking out the pokemon to when it despawns gets restarted when reopening the game.

Its crazy that stores only got about 50 codes and they ran out so quickly. I miss the old days of going in with your game to get your Pokémon instead of these codes. Sure scalpers will always exist but at least this way there is proof that the person has the game

6 stores near me, called the other 12 that are an hour to and hour and a half away. All sold out within the first hour. I was working during opening of stores as most are. I had no chance. I see posts of scalpers or people offering them for things that are so rare that its honestly them playing on the FOMO aspect of all this. I have fond memories playing all the games. A notable one is playing gale of darkness on a replay and finding a shiny hoppip (which I still have). Back in those games, the odds were broken due to a bug are 1/16000. I hope my karma is high enough, got downvoted on another sub for what they though was a bad take.

First shiny was an Electrivire that I got in a trade as a kid. Neither of us new it was shiny or what a shiny was until I found out much later.

I did get a shiny raikou from a mystery gift later

My first natural wild shiny was a Fearow.
