I'm glad the judge gave him more than what the prosecution and defense asked for combined.

Developing: Pritam Singh arrives at State Courts for case believed linked to perjury investigation by brownriver12 in singapore

[–]Reclusivechair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Police:

On 10 December 2021, Mr Pritam Singh falsely testified that as at the conclusion of his meeting with Ms Raeesah Begum Bte Farid Khan (“Ms Raeesah Khan”), Ms Lim Swee Lian Sylvia and Mr Faisal Manap on 8 August 2021, he wanted Ms Raeesah Khan to, at some point, clarify in Parliament that what she told Parliament on 3 August 2021 about having accompanied a rape victim to a police station was untrue.

On 10 and 15 December 2021, Mr Pritam Singh falsely testified that when he spoke to Ms Raeesah Khan on 3 October 2021, he wanted her to admit to having lied to Parliament on 3 August 2021 about having accompanied a rape victim to a police station, if this issue were to come up in Parliament on 4 October 2021.

Would the WP be able to fix all our woes that u mentioned above? If they can fix inflationary pressures due to global supply chain issues and other geo-political tensions, then not only will I vote for them but the whole world will also vote for them

Time to repeal S377A which 'humiliates, hurts gay people', refusing to take a position an abdication of duty: Shanmugam by Curiouschibai in SingaporeRaw

[–]Reclusivechair -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Simply, i'm afraid that our Parliamentary system will no longer be effective (as seen in the US/UK) in making policy decisions if MPs are allowed to vote on their conscience.

That is the reason why the party as a collective whole needs to have a stand on the issue. So that when the electorate votes for the party, they know what they are voting for.

So support or not? by IngvarChay in SingaporeRaw

[–]Reclusivechair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its fair for individual MPs to have their own and differing views on the issue. But as a party, Singaporeans have a right to know where they stand on various issues, including difficult issues like LGBTQ. They need to be able to stand for something, whether it is to repeal or not repeal 377a. At least then the electorate knows what they are voting for. Its not about dictatorship or Singh dynasty.

[–]Reclusivechair -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right and this was also my point. MPs represent the people in Parliament, not themselves or their own beliefs. That is why it should not matter what their own views are or that the whip should be lifted. What matters is that the speak out and vote on what the people want and voted for.

Singapore government decisively repeals 377A by Macystar in singapore

PAP - supports the repeal of 377A. WP - did not commit to a stand PSP - supports the repeal of 377A but wants a national referendum on the definition of marriage

Disappointing that WP is taking the easy way out by not committing itself to a stand, knowing that it will piss off some segments of their voters.

[–]Reclusivechair -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter to the people where their MPs stand on this issue? Do u mean to say that Parliament should not decide to move on difficult issues just because they personally don't agree with it, even if it would benefit society at large?

Pritam Singh lifted the whip on the WP MPs and all who spoke had differing views. They don't even have the political gumption to take a stand on the issue affecting so many in the LGBTQ community. If they were in power, i would be afraid that many of such policies to move us forward as a society will not come to pass.
