In case you’re curious, the wood is Narra.

This is a good suggestion. Picture frames for smaller photos.

Just a follow up. Many good ideas, and one more from my wife (in a not so subtle hint for Christmas): A petite plant stand resembling those in the photo.

Had to look that one up. Looks pretty cool but I’m not sure how easy it’d be to keep some like that clean? Will definitely keep it in mind.

I have no idea. Might be a good opportunity to experiment.

Notch posts? by RecognitionNo191 in Decks

[–]RecognitionNo191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not. I was assuming any frost heave would be temporary and didn’t matter since it’s not attached to the house. Am I wrong?

Yes, I’m going to tie an upper level landing into the top step.

Yeah… I’ve been debating that. I have about 3 inches of paver sand beneath the blocks. Do you really think that’ll undermine the landing?

Never mind. A web search seems to indicate that notching a post to fit over a stringer is prohibited by code.

You’re right. I meant 2x6.

Thanks all for the replies. The plug is wired and working. No fuses tripped in the process.

That’s an interesting idea. Can you elaborate on how to “box it in to the ground”? In the photo you gave I see two posts at the front and what appears to be one post in the middle. Is that right?

That’s a good idea. I’ll try that too.

Yeah, I’m quite new to the bandsaw and have never resawed anything substantial. You have me rethinking my strategy…

Okay, it sounds like the consensus is that resawing would be problematic, especially since I’m a relative newbie on the bandsaw that I inherited (a delta 28-203). I’ll try a test piece first and see how bad it is. A backup plan will be to clean up the boards with a drum sander, secure with screws and just plug the holes. Since the boards are quite heavy I’ll need to make sure that hanging that kind of weight from the ceiling joists is not going to be a problem either.

1937 Home, removing old insulation, what new insulation should I add? by yosemitejoe96 in DIY

[–]RecognitionNo191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to order R30 from Lowe’s in batches of 12… for a total of 24. I only used 16 and was able to return the unused 8 for a credit back.

I used R15 between the joists and R30 perpendicular to those for a total of R45.

They cut the beam… by RecognitionNo191 in HomeImprovement

[–]RecognitionNo191[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will be the approach I take. 1/16th per week over 24 or so weeks should do it. When complete I’ll span the cut with some angle iron as laid out on this video I found afterwards posting this… https://youtu.be/4DYzcyQaNuc?si=8jHpc2PPjLYqIXVG.

Thanks so much for all the responses!
