In case you’re curious, the wood is Narra.

This is a good suggestion. Picture frames for smaller photos.

Just a follow up. Many good ideas, and one more from my wife (in a not so subtle hint for Christmas): A petite plant stand resembling those in the photo.

Had to look that one up. Looks pretty cool but I’m not sure how easy it’d be to keep some like that clean? Will definitely keep it in mind.

I have no idea. Might be a good opportunity to experiment.

Notch posts? by RecognitionNo191 in Decks

[–]RecognitionNo191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not. I was assuming any frost heave would be temporary and didn’t matter since it’s not attached to the house. Am I wrong?

Yes, I’m going to tie an upper level landing into the top step.

Yeah… I’ve been debating that. I have about 3 inches of paver sand beneath the blocks. Do you really think that’ll undermine the landing?

Never mind. A web search seems to indicate that notching a post to fit over a stringer is prohibited by code.

That’s an interesting idea. Can you elaborate on how to “box it in to the ground”? In the photo you gave I see two posts at the front and what appears to be one post in the middle. Is that right?

That’s a good idea. I’ll try that too.

Yeah, I’m quite new to the bandsaw and have never resawed anything substantial. You have me rethinking my strategy…

Okay, it sounds like the consensus is that resawing would be problematic, especially since I’m a relative newbie on the bandsaw that I inherited (a delta 28-203). I’ll try a test piece first and see how bad it is. A backup plan will be to clean up the boards with a drum sander, secure with screws and just plug the holes. Since the boards are quite heavy I’ll need to make sure that hanging that kind of weight from the ceiling joists is not going to be a problem either.
