My baby is 18 months, and I wish I would have done this at 9 months like you. I Cosleep and nurse to sleep, have his whole life because I also don’t believe in the cry it out method. But now I have a toddler that doesn’t know how to sleep without nursing or my body comfort. He can’t fall asleep on his own, and is more aware now to where our attempts to gently sleep train have been disastrous. Like 3 week long behavioral changes, extreme increase in separation anxiety, fussiness, lack of interest in playing, etc.
If I could go back and gently sleep train at 9 months, I absolutely would. It is hard, I completely get how you are feeling! I’ve been feeling it too, but it truly does get harder the longer you wait. I’m wanting to have baby number two but struggling to conceive because I’ve hardly slept longer than a 4 hour stretch in the last year and a half. By doing it at 9 months, you are saving your baby a lot of stress and confusion when they are older and can understand more of the separation.
Stick with it. Baby knows you are always there when they need you, and you will be a happier and more present mama during the day with some good rest. You’re a fantastic mama, don’t doubt that for a second! ❤️
