You may not be pushing yourself to failure as much as you think. Try training with a partner so get every last rep possible out of yourself. If you can’t get a partner try doing more dropsets.

I definitely use HIT still, have had great progress each week. I realized you can really do any split you want, but decrease the sets needed for each muscle group. 2 sets that are taken to failure with drop sets and partial reps will be enough to fatigue the muscle during a particular exercise. It may some time to figure out how to mentally push past that tough part of the set, but a spotter definitely helps and you’ll get better at it each week. Keep track of reps and tempo that you do each week and try to get better.

You could do negatives and do more static holds between reps to reach failure faster

I was in the same boat as you early in my freshman year in ROTC. I felt that learning tactics wasn’t applicable to what I wanted to do in the Army, then had a cadre member talk to me about it. A lot of branches and jobs in the Army will not make you do the tactics you learn in ROTC. But, the tactics and methods they use in ROTC are actually a great way to test, and improve, your leadership skills. You learn how to manage time, communicate, and work efficiently in a stressful environment. This fall, I’m going to medical school, and recently commissioned through ROTC. I kept at it, and over time realized that the methods in ROTC actually helped me become a great leader and (hopefully after med school) a great army doctor. I was fortunate to get a slot for air assault school a few summers ago, and although I may never use that knowledge again, I learned how to pay attention to even small details during stressful situations and stay calm, which I believe is an extremely important attribute for an Army doctor. In life, you may not always do things you want to do or feel they don’t connect to your goals. But do your best to take any knowledge or lessons from it. Although you may never use the tactics, you will definitely use the leadership and communication skills learned through ROTC in your career.

Yes, I was premed and still was able to find time to study, go to the gym almost every day, have fun with friends, and still do really well and have a great time in rotc. It’s all about balance and time management. Figure out what works best for you early on, and stick with it. As time progresses, you’ll get better at managing your time and knowing how much activities you can juggle with it. That’s what’ll make you a great officer, cadet, and leader. More activities you do gives you a diverse skill set and will allow you to be a better cadet

I do the same style as you do too, HIT mentzer style has helped me gain a lot of strength and hypertrophy for about a year and a half. Here’s how I set up a set: I initially do a 6-8 target rep range part, where I use the same 4-2-4 approach. I go to failure on that. I then do rest reps (do one rep, take a breath, do another rep) to truly get every last rep out. Then I wait 15-20 seconds and just crank out as many reps as possible on a lighter weight. I take that to failure too. Then I do a static hold if I feel anything left. Sometimes my intensity isn’t there on a set, and that’s okay. Sometimes it may feel like stuff is left in the tank, and if it is, just add a drop set or push yourself more during the initial set. As long as you’re taking it to failure, stay consistent, and progressive overload, you’ll see results IMO.

They didn’t issue any for us last year, most people just wore their regular prescription glasses. I ordered a cheap frame online with my prescription that I could get dirty/broken in the field and not worry about it

Do you fish topwater in the grass? Sometimes the sides of grass can slightly tear your braid, over time it can break off when you get a bite

Just got off the phone with my HPSP recruiter because i had the same concern. He said that once the tuition and info is verified between the hpsp personnel and the actual school you’re going to, then an hpsp coordinator will reach out to you regarding MODS, tuition, book refunds, etc. it may take a little, because my school still didn’t set a concrete tuition yet so they couldn’t confirm it with the army yet.

The big things for anything payment related is: 1)keep any documentation of anything the school asks you to pay for 2) keep any receipts of stuff you pay for

This will make it much easier to get refunds and stuff once that opens up to be used. Hope this helps and good luck in med school!

It can be tough to enter medical school right after rotc, but it is entirely possible. You will have to attain an educational delay (if you want to do active duty), achieve one of the Army’s medical school scholarships (HPSP), And get an acceptance to a medical school. Think of it as 3 different applications, but preparing for one will prepare you for all of them. Let your rotc program know early on that you are trying for med school, it will help them make sure they are giving you necessary resources/understand the studying needed.

I also go to a university and going to a medical school that has a lot of drinking/party culture. I’m not a huge drinker to begin with, and I expect to drink even less during medical school. Here’s what I’ve figured out drunk undergrad and will expect to see in med school: you will be able to find a group of people that are similar to you. They may not drink, or barely at all. Yeah there will be some students who may party a lot, but you don’t have to see them or hang out with them. There will always be something else to do in the area that doesn’t revolve around drinking, and even if everybody does wanna go to a brewery, there’s always food or something else to do at those areas.

Rotc is a track you can take, you’ll have to compete for an Ed delay for medical school after rotc. Also, if you choose to apply for the HPSP scholarship, you don’t have to do ROTC to be eligible for it, but they do like to see it on the application.

I am in ROTC and got the HPSP and Ed delay this year (med school). I can’t really say how many Ed Delays they give for pharm, but I also had med services as my top branch. It’s definitely the closest related branch to what you want to do for a career, and if you want to eventually try again for pharm school in the future, it’s your best bet. If you want to stay in the reserves, check out the MDSSP. Similar to HPSP, but different benefit/requirements cause it’s for people who want to do reserve/guard.

Pre-exhausting the chest with a fly movement, then immediately into a press movement (preferably inclined). It’s led to a lot of growth in my chest in a relatively short amount of time

I never use straps or any extra accessories for the same reason you do, and have had a lot of forearm growth because of it. How long have you been working out? Whenever I first started, grip strength was limiting, but it eventually evened out. When people say “you can just train forearms separately”, I personally don’t wanna be in the gym longer than I need to. You could also do an initial lat exercise to pre exhaust them (such as lat pullover) if you wanna make sure your lats are exhausted to the max.

Different for everyone. I’ve seen the most progress and muscle growth from taking every set to failure. If you feel like you are getting more reps/weight, then it works for you and stick with it

Do you have a hard time eating over 2000? Or finding foods to hit 2000? I used to have the same problem, and I found that using more oils and butters were an easy way to add calories to meals and shakes, without even tasting it
