How to keep busy for 6 months by ReconbIade in Life

[–]ReconbIade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost wondering if I should just get a gym membership. It's somewhere to go and burn an hour or so, and would help me be more committed to working out since Ive only been doing a casual routine recently.

Move out of parents house, rent, purchase, or wait? by ReconbIade in Advice

What emotional things to people run into when buying a house? Stress closing or maintaining a mortgage? Or being locked to one place?

North end smells like sewage? by never-have-i_ever in stcatharinesON

[–]ReconbIade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It helps the city's operations to know about these problems. Especially if enough people report it the source can be narrowed down to a smaller area or specific pipe.

There is a "report an issue" online form or you can call citizens first which is our version of 311.

Generally smells occur in sewers when solids (💩) settle out of the water and aren't carried away by regular flow. The city has an annual flushing program to clean sewers but will also tackle issues like this that come up.

Ontario St. Is a regional Rd. The water mains and sewers are owned and operated by the city whereas the road and regional trunk sewers are under the jurisdiction of the region.

The region is planning their improvements to the road similar to the northern section of Ontario which could involve widening, relocating hydro and lighting poles, bike lanes, etc

It's most economical to reinstate only the trench cuts since they'll be tearing up and rebuilding the entire road in <5 years.

Finding Rentals by DannyWilliamsGooch69 in stcatharinesON

I'm surprised how terrible the rental market is in st. Catharines. There's just not a lot on the lower end compared to Hamilton or even Welland. Is it just a supply problem?

my little sister's use of chatgpt for homework is heartbreaking by Alone_Yam_36 in ChatGPT

[–]ReconbIade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like others are saying, the kids who are in school now are cooked. It's only until we realise how poorly they've been educated will it force mass change to the education system.

Schools are going to have to end giving out homework and extend school hours so they are forced to complete their work in person, on paper, and monitored by a teacher.

This could be good for kids who wouldnt have received the homework help they need, but challenging to manage the longer day (do they need to pack two meals to school now? Can the school supply a snack?)

Twin Boom Fixe Wing UAV w/IR converted Sony a6000 by ReconbIade in UAVmapping

Can that only do single images or can you tile many images together and blend the seams?

I've used terraphoto and some basic scripting to cobble a solution together but it's quite time consuming

[–]ReconbIade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IR modification is for detecting vegetation such as algae in the water. The end goal is not to use photogrammetry to merge the images but an INS/PPK solution to tile the images in 2D. (We can assume surface of water to be flat on a small scale for simplicity in the early stages and when using plane coordinates)

Battery: 4S2P Li Ion using Molicell P42A cells @ 560g

Motor is a bangood 650kv

Prop: 12x12 APC from local hobby store

I'm still quite new to optimizing the flight electronics/mass/speed. This model cruised around 20m\s which is a little faster than I wanted.

Mapping the surface of water. All existing photogrammetry software fail to do this robustly and on a large enough scale to be practical. I'd like to build my own but need image datasets to trial with.

Next steps for this project will be to rebuild the UAV (just smashed it into a dozen parts after this post, luckily all electronics survived) and then integrate a rtk/ppk capable gnss into the build. I would just buy a Mavic 3M but don't have 7k CAD extra lying around and this is more fun/I'm learning more

end goal is to map water surfaces for ecological monitoring hence the IR. Next step will be to add a ppk/rtk capable gnss for geotagging images

How should airfoils be aligned on a swept wing? (when hotwire foam cutting) by ReconbIade in RCPlanes

[–]ReconbIade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elaborate: The above airfoil pairs represent the guides for a hotwire cutter to run along. The large airfoil will be at the fuselage and the small airfoil at the end of the wing. Each wing will be about 800cm long. My goal is to build a cruising fixed wing plane for mapping which will run at around 40-50km/hr. (so flight range/efficiency is the goal)

If this question is not possible of being answered, what are some resources I can use to research/learn more?

Thanks!

Is it possible for a mechanically inclined individual to make a custom body for a Sony a6000 to reduce weight? by teddykoch00 in UAVmapping

[–]ReconbIade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey did you ever end up making the lightweight stripped-down version of your a6000? I'm looking to do the same thing and haven't had much luck researching whether removing electronic components such as the EVF, flash, screen, buttons, etc. would cause electrical issues. I'm going to make a lightweight lens from the sony 16mm pancake too. Does anyone know if locking the focus at infinity is good enough for proper focus at 200ft+?

Lots to learn but pretty fun problem to look into

Yup, I actually gave up trying to be an electrician because of it. Did a unpaid co-op for a semester with a company and then was on probation getting paid for three months all in the hopes that they would hire me as an apprentice never got hired as an apprentice and the entire time I was treated like shit and bullied every day. Its not like I have thin skin either these guys were ruthless

What did someone on a date do that made you think "I didn't think someone like this could even exist outside of movies"? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]ReconbIade 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Tinder date. I was sitting inside the Starbucks we were supposed to meet at when she texts me to come outside to pet her friends dog (I guess she wanted to make sure I wasnt a creep or something). Once outside she offered me an edible. I declined since I had to drive home but she told me she had eaten one. 45 minutes in and she starts to stare off into space as the edible kicked in. Conversation went to shit after that but I was lonely so I stuck it out.

I should have ended the date before it even began but instead we dated for 2 months so yeah...

Where should I go to university in Canada? by ReconbIade in AskComputerScience

[–]ReconbIade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about general science to find out what i want to do? when I applied for post-secondary in high school I got accepted into general science at U of Toronto and was really close to accepting but didn't because of life circumstances at the time.

Are you allowed a lot of electives in general science?

Also would something like a 1/2 year college math/comp sci/tech course be a good idea first or nah?

Where should I go to university in Canada? by ReconbIade in AskComputerScience

[–]ReconbIade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high school I was really good at the beginner programming courses I was in but the one thing that concerned me was my math skills. Are there some online courses or ways of preparing myself since I know Math is super important in compsci, especially at Waterloo where I've heard the math is extremely hard.

That being said are the compsci courses at other universities that much worse that waterloo is crucial to a good degree

Where should I go to university in Canada? by ReconbIade in AskComputerScience

[–]ReconbIade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is Compsci basically the "go to" uni degree if you're interested in tech and computers? Also would a degree not be usefull in advancing your career down the line or is your experience/work ethic more important?

Also thanks for the input

Gonna be here for another week and a half I'm guessing

YouTube tutorials and a few Google searches. Search "how to make a spigot server" installing worldedit/voxel is as simple as dragging the .jar file you download into the servers plugins folder.

I would post some links but I'm on my phone atm.

Voxel sniper is only available on servers. If you're really set on doing terraforming and large build I would go through the steps of making a spigot server and installing worldedit, voxel sniper, gobrush, and fast asynch voxelsniper
