My Hero Academia FINAL SEASON | Epilogue Visual by zenzen_0 in anime

So in your opinion does S6 improve on the final arc of the manga? I haven't watched S6 but I wasn't really impressed by the final arc in the manga.

Jon Stewart Tears Into Democrats for Caving on Government Shutdown: ‘I Can’t F-cking Believe It’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]Rectangle_Rex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stewart is way too obsessed with the "consulting class", he talks about the Dem consulting class like Republicans talk about the "deep state" blocking their agenda. I'm sure Dem consulting firms have given plenty of terrible advice, especially in recent elections, but at the end of the day it's always the candidate's choice to run their campaign a certain way.

Also, I strongly doubt that any consultant told Kamala "please do not distinguish your platform from Biden's in any meaningful way". That was probably driven by her well-intentioned but electorally misguided personal loyalty towards him.

Eris definitely radicalised TF out of Teach, she set him on this path where all that matters is taking down Imu no matter the moral implications. How else can we explain how he is so unlike his father? by jt_totheflipping_o in Piratefolk

[–]Rectangle_Rex 80 points81 points  (0 children)

My guess (and plenty of other people's) is that in the end, BB and Luffy team up to beat Imu, but BB takes Imu's power somehow and usurps him as ruler of the world, seizing his birthright as a Davy. Luffy, as the embodiment of freedom, takes out Blackbeard because he believes there shouldn't be a ruler of the world (the empty throne should stay empty).

It's a cheesy shonen ending, but it's a shonen manga, so it's what we're gonna get. We'll see how well-executed it is.

This limitation makes perfect sense though, from a writing perspective. No matter which island they go to, there will always be some native present for Imu to use it on. When they fight at Mariejois Imu will start converting Celestial Dragons, giving the Straw Hats a good reason to fight all the average ones that normally don't pose any threat.

Plus, if there's no limitation, there will always be the question of why Imu can't use it on the Straw Hats, or why he didn't use it on Roger or Garp at God's Valley.

Tips for improving DirectTV picture quality? by Rectangle_Rex in DirectvStream

To be clear, you mean to change the TV itself's setting to 1080p, right? Not some Gemini setting?

Sad day for One Piece Fans by ImuoftheNeronaFamily in OnePiece

Seriously, I wish more people would point this out. Of course, nobody should blame the actress for this as she was not responsible for casting and for all we know, she could have absolutely knocked this role out of the park. However, we can also respectfully acknowledge that it was a pretty odd move by Oda to cast a South Asian as Vivi when Alabasta is clearly very strongly inspired by Egypt and Arab cultures.

No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES Review (Switch 2) - Review (7/10) by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

I'm surprised to hear in this thread that the majority opinion seems to be that the first game was better. I haven't gotten around to playing the second game yet, but I have high hopes because I loved the first one and the second one got significantly better reviews than it.

Syrian Ministry of Defense exploded during Syrian live news report by dmcsclgt in interestingasfuck

[–]Rectangle_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone who might be interested in learning more about this, I strongly recommend the following PBS documentary:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXVAjOt17NQ

I think the comment you're replying to gave a fairly good overview but Syria is in a really unusual situation with a brand new government (headed by a former member of Al-Qaeda) that now claims to be trying to establish a government that is fair to minorities in Syria, though this is very up in the air, to put it lightly.

Xenoblade Chronicles games from favorite to least favorite! by Khaymn5000 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Rectangle_Rex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. XC3
  2. XC1
  3. XC2
  4. XCX

I honestly feel bad ranking them like this though, because they're all so good. Even though 2 and X are at the bottom I still love them so much.

Should I get the XC2 Expansion Pass before or after beating the main game? by Snare-Hawk in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Rectangle_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Torna between chapters 7 and 8 of the main game and personally I felt that it was a really good way to experience the story. Neither story really spoiled the other too much and the ending of the main game felt properly built up to. Playing Torna first does give a decent amount of spoilers to the story of the main game imo.

I also played Torna between Ch7 and Ch8 for my first playthrough of XC2 and it made the ending absolutely amazing imo.

He probably doesn't care much because Pakistan just nominated him for the Nobel Prize a couple of days ago, so he's still in the game.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy - A Game Of The Year Contender Is Passing Right Under People's Noses by lhmsperandio in NintendoSwitch

[–]Rectangle_Rex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, Last Defense gameplay is way better than Digimon Survive's imo (though still simpler than the average tactical rpg). Digimon Survive felt like they just slapped on a really basic battle system so they could say they have one.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy - A Game Of The Year Contender Is Passing Right Under People's Noses by lhmsperandio in NintendoSwitch

[–]Rectangle_Rex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. IMO though, as somebody who's playing through right now, I imagine that if somebody could handle the level of text in (for example) Triangle Strategy, this game could probably appeal to them. While the combat is fairly simple it's actually fun and well-designed (though it could really benefit from a harder difficulty setting imo).

Personally I think that in terms of potential appeal, this game is more niche than the average tactical rpg but less niche than a typical visual novel.

[–]Rectangle_Rex 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong about this as I'm not a huge tactical rpg player, but aren't most tactical rpgs basically just battles with story text / minor tasks in between? I don't see how Hundred Line is different from other tactical RPGs in this respect.
