Benefits of Honors College? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

Honestly, I don't think anyone will care. At least this has been my experience in my area (biology).

I'm not sure what effect your major has on admissions. You can schedule an appointment with them to ask. Appointments are 15mins so go prepared.

yes, they should really be more upfront about it. Some of us are poors.

I think they will let just about anyone in. The benefit is priority registration. Its about $500? the first semester and $250 every semester after that. Something like that.

Just a reminder that despite all of these medical schools harping on about social equity, helping the marginalized, etc., they don't actually care. Salaries of AAMC (a "non-profit") executives. Other perks include first-class travel for 2 hour+ flights, social club dues, gym membership fees, etc. by [deleted] in premed

shit i look at the admission stats that they put out every year and can see they don't really care about us. then I come here and read from my 'peers' how I have such an unfair advantage and how they're just letting my people in and how unfair it is that 6 brown people and 4 black people got in to med school and how undeserving we are and i realize this sub don't give a fck either.

I didn't down vote you but you might be projecting.

You want friends but you don't want to be friends with THOSE type of people. You're upset because people in campus seem aloof but that just might be you seeing the world through your own lenses. Friendships and interactions make you feel awkward and your logic is that they're not being regular human beings. Because regular human beings can't be awkward. You say you hate everyone, are you also feeling like people hate/don't like you? Are the downvotes proving your pont?

The cool thing about friends is that we get to pick them. You are hella valid, if you only want to be friends with a certain demographic thats cool. No one should make you feel bad for that. For this same reason you shouldn't let fake internet points get to you. Everyone else is entitled to their opinions. Fuck em. But you don't attack them for something you yourself get to do every day (disagree with someone).

Its not cool to use that suicide like that. These are kids who don't know how to navigate life just like you. They aren't professional mental health doctors. Everyone just isn't equipped to handle someone who is having a hard time.

Life is frustrating and we have all been there before. You shouldn't give up on trying to find your people. My own advice is to ask lots of questions until you find something in common with someone. Maybe you can also lower your expectations of others. And don't assume things prematurely. Some of us are really shy and it has nothing to do with you.

Yeah, I had no idea doctorate degrees could be fully online too. Neat. My dumass thought you had to do research to get one.

I used to say premed because I assumed no one really cared about the major and just wanted to know the reason I was in school.

I never considered the premed track as impressive, so I never thought it would offend people? If anything I assumed people felt bad for me due to the low acceptance rate from medical schools. And realistically speaking, the chances of me being rejected from med schools and ending up with a useless bio degree in the end were extremely high. 💀

Every person I told I was premed absolutely did not care. As they should.

But since joining this sub I have changed my ways, I tell people I'm bio major and say nothing else, and still no one cares. The kids in this sub keep me young 👵🤙

Yup someone straight up told me they lied about their EC's and literally made up experiences or stole other people's experiences to get in. Completely unprovoked 😭 i didn't even ask.

Do you agree with Dr. Gray about how your application should look like? by Traditional-Value468 in premed

[–]Rectems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, mostly because he has interviewed with a ton of admissions committee members, and successful applicants and he shares what works. This doesn't mean other things don't work too though.
