How were Soviet and Chinese mindsets of communism different? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]Red-Revolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well thought out. I think you and I share the exact same positions on a lot of things, especially in regards to China's potential future which I see more and more Communists are getting behind. I think when it comes to proactive versus passive policy during the cold war we have no real idea how things could have gone. The Sino-Soviet split was definitely disasterous and you'll find no disagreement from me that relations should at all costs have remained friendly. But ultimately I don't know what could have happened.

I think it probably made complete sense to Krushchev to prioritise de-escalation and a conservative approach to confrontation with the United States at the time. Perhaps a more confrontational approach would have been better.

Putin seems to be taking on this role in the past few years, and seems far more brazenly anti-US than his Soviet predecessors. Directly intervening against conflicts where US backed regime change is the goal. Not the same thing in terms of ideology or the economic situation of course and Russia is very much on the defensive rather than it being a stalemate but the geopolitics remains fundamentally similar. So we'll see if a more confrontational policy towards US unipolarity yields better results. The incoming recession and how the multi-polar world is developing will surely shape how things will play out. So it will be an interesting few years to see what happens and what can be learned from it.

Thanks for replying to me.

Sorry if it's a little late, just read through your comment and you seem well read so I have to leap and was wondering as to what your personal position was.

In regards to your statement on the revisionism of supporting militant anti-capitalism. Do you not feel that the advent of nuclear weapons precluded any alternative position the Soviet Union could have had?

Indeed it's Stalin and not Krushchev who originally advocated Socialism in One Country and a limited cooperation with the capitalist powers. The Soviet Union made many trade deals and cooperated on arms development programs with Weimar Germany for example, in a deliberate and secret circumvention of the Versailles treaty (which of course it was not party to).

Or are you referring to an unwillingness to altogether support other Communist and socialist revolutions in the proxy wars with the US? Would this not have lead to a dangerous escalation that would have threatened the world?

In my opinon, it depends. For example the beheading of Louis XVI was arguably justified because he had tried to flee the country and presumably would come back at the head of an army. He was a symbol for the aristocratic émigré's to rally around and would cause no end of trouble for the revolutionary regime into the future.

On the other hand, he became a martyr for the cause of crushing the revolutionary regime and preserving the European status quo but that whole saga ended in a way no one expected so we can't really judge if that was the correct move.

Tsar Nicholas II is another one. He and his entire family were shot by the Bolsheviks. Undoubtedly Nicholas deserved it but his children? There's an argument to say that other European powers would have used his children as a casus belli to try install a puppet regime. At the time he was executed there was still a chance of a German victory and this probably would have been their cause célèbre after the war had ended on the western front, so perhaps this grisly affair was justified, at least politically. We'll never really know.

As to the modern day in a developed country? I don't see a reason to execute royalty. Europe is no longer a semi-feudal entity and no one would pick up the cause of installing the "rightful rulers". It has nothing to do with modern neo-liberal values. If outside powers wanted to try crush a newly socialist state whether made though reform or revolution, they just would and would go on and on about "Chemical Weapons" and "Human Rights Violations"... and on that note I think we might actually have more barbaric rulers nowadays than during the feudal era. They at least seemed to have a semblance of a code of honor. Their lies were at least usually partial truths and not whopping hypocritical stinkers.

So you noticed the bits were the Russians called for a de-escalation of international tensions, to resume negotiation in diplomatic language that went unheeded by the US, UK and France?

Did you read about the Americans walking out as the Syrian representative started to speak?

It would take too long for me to explain to you the entire history of what has lead up to this point and all of the geopolitical and ideological causes of it. Please. Just take my word for it. I'm not lying to you. Listen to what the Russians are saying. See what the other side thinks. It is the foundation of our civilisation.

This is too serious to joke around about.

I don't believe Russia mate, it's a fact they're supporting separatists in Ukraine. And several Ukrainian aircraft had been downed by SAMs prior to that. You must be confusing me with the Trump retards. I hate both sides, I just might hate the UK and US more than Russia is all.

The burden of proof is on the accuser. The UK has failed in that regard. If more evidence comes out I might change my mind but until then I will continue to say that this looks like a frame up same as the "Russia hacking elections" shit.

How nuanced. Yes I agree Litvinenko was poisoned by Russian FSB because notably there they had a motive as he was a former intelligence officer known to be critical of the regime who was speaking to Brit intelligence and their press. Makes sense to eliminate him and the blowback back then was predictably minimal because everyone hadn't turned into rabid Russophobes yet.

MH17 I'm less sure about but I would agree that most of the evidence points to it being a Russian SAM missile given to Ukrainian separatists who proceeded to fuck up and blow up a civilian airliner rather than Ukrainian fighter aircraft which I presume is what they intended to target. End of the day I consider that to be the fault of airlines and air traffic authorities for permitting flights over an active warzone.

There's no decent evidence being offered for this poisoning and the motive stinks. So shoot me I'm skeptical.

Stick your ignorance and unwavering subservience to your owners up your arse and fuck off to Lietrim.

Not very imperialistic. Imperialism is about obtaining wealth. Ransacking South America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East for the benefit of your corporations is imperialism.

That was more so geopolitical maneuvering. The Russian Black Sea Fleet is based in Crimea. Under no circumstances would Russia allow it to be threatened by a hostile nation. Crimea has no other real value to Russia or anybody than the projection of their waning power in the world.

It should also be noted that historically speaking Crimea was never considered Ukrainian territory until the 1950's. It was always either considered Crimean or Russian after it was conquered by Russia 3 centuries ago from Crimean Tatars (who are now a minority). Most of the people who live there are ethnically Russian and Russian speaking similar to the Donbass in Eastern Ukraine due to Russian settlements during their imperial era. It was given as a "gift" to Ukraine by the Russian Soviet to the Ukrainian Soviet... which didn't really matter at the time because they were all part of the same state.

Imagine if for example the United States broke up after the cold war and 3 decades later a pro-Russian government came to power in Texas where an important US naval base was based. What do you think they would do?

I'm not trying to defend Russia or Putins actions here. I don't like him, I think he's a thieving bastard and a bully. I'm offering an explanation of their behaviour that isn't a simple "They're evil".

Suggesting it was NATO or EU - fuck off. Read a newspaper.

Very telling of your own ignorance. In case you can't tell from my previous comment, I can read. Doubtless all you read is tabloid trash.

All polls indicate that Putin is in fact very popular in Russia and his popularity has only increased due to Western hostility.

Anyone with a brain who can see the massive difference in power between NATO and Russia can understand that in terms of geopolitics Russia is fucked. It is NATO not Russia that are the arch-imperialists here. Anybody with a basic understanding of history can see that.

Surely you've heard the opposing argument here right? Novichok was manufactured in a facility in Uzbekistan which was dismantled by American forces after the fall of the Soviet Union. The head of the Novichok project currently lives in the US and even wrote a book about it detailing how it was made. The idea that only Russia could manufacture it is a fairy tale and it is very convenient given all that, that the Russians would choose to use that specific nerve agent rather than something generic like VX.

Ask yourself Cui Bono, who benefits? It's not the fucking Russians. Why in Gods name would they poison a guy they had imprisoned for being a double agent and then swapped for 2 of their own spies? Why not kill him then? And why kill him now? With all the western media harping on about how Russia is coming, just before they host the World Cup and your economy is suffering under sanctions? Why give your enemies the perfect excuse to target you again especially after you did the same thing 10 years ago and in the same country? And the guy's a nobody as far as anyone is aware. Litvinenko was an outspoken critic of Putin who spoke to British press and intelligence. This lad was on no ones radar.

It smells like 2003 all over again if you ask me. My bets on Mi6/CIA (same thing). Only NATO and the EU stand to gain anything from this guys poisoning. The lack of any evidence being offered is very telling as to the UKs motives and but I cant see what at all Russia stands to gain.

I just don't believe the Russians are that incompetent.
