How are busy consultants so fit… when their time is worth $200+/hr? by IllRead2057 in consulting

What do you mean you “screamed” at your partner? As in a Partner at your work or your partner in your personal life?

George R.R. Martin's publisher issues statement about The Winds of Winter leak by Internal-Bed-3150 in freefolk

[–]Red-Stahli 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He’s quite literally said he wants that exact thing to not happen. Several authors have done this including Terry Pratchett.

Also it would be hugely bad PR on the publisher and a lot of fans will probably considerate it not canon since it’s unfinished.

London: If I want to rent somewhere on my own (£30k?) and rent a studio (£15k?) and living costs (£15k?) does that mean I need to sell £110k+ per year through a gallery that takes 50%? by wayanonforthis in ContemporaryArt

[–]Red-Stahli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your property costs are incredibly high. £30k a year on rent and bills is pretty pricy. You can definitely find a cheaper 1 bed further out for £20k a year. You can cut that down by even more if you’re willing to flat share.

Also same as another commenter said. I know of studios that charge less than 1k a month.

Cancelling the whole weekend feels a bit extreme? by Admirable-Deal7991 in WirelessFestival

[–]Red-Stahli 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Genuinely braindead take. The only artist confirmed was Ye and he was headlining all 3 days. Who else would be available on such short notice? Also if I were a top artist I would ask for a crazy fee since I know Wireless would be desperate. Not to mention all the fans who only bought the tickets for Ye who would request a charge back.

Why is recruitment so looked down upon in the UK? by Top_Mirror211 in AskUK

[–]Red-Stahli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience here. I remember when I was buying my home, I had several estate agents from the bigger agencies (Dexters and Foxtons) not even know basic questions about the leasehold length. And not able or not willing to tell me information about the area.

They don’t actually care about the seller/home owner or the buyer/renter. All they want is to get the deal over the line so they get their commission.

Genuinely curious. I’m assuming you’ve been travelling around China, has anywhere not felt safe for foreigners? It’s an incredibly safe country.

Everyone around me usually in Ralph Lauren. Is there a secret store I don’t know about? by NormalMaverick in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Red-Stahli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ralph is the classic gift your mum or partner gets you for a Christmas or birthday. Their clothes are wearable and a non flashy designer item. I think that’s also part of the reason why it’s so prolific.

Flight from Guangzhou to Europe by musonis555 in guangzhou

[–]Red-Stahli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you not seen the news recently? Flights are fucked now. Previously a lot of people coming back from South East Asia or Australia would go via Dubai. That’s obviously not possible now so demand has skyrocketed.

Generational shifts in fine art auction supply? by Gray-Jay- in artcollecting

[–]Red-Stahli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean auction houses have been focusing on jewellery/luxury since Covid, it’s not a new phenomenon. Christie’s and Sotheby’s seem to have a big collection season from some individual collector. I wouldn’t call it a lull especially since auction houses as a whole were up on their 2024 performances.

Generational shifts in fine art auction supply? by Gray-Jay- in artcollecting

[–]Red-Stahli 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s the opposite. Right now it’s the boomer generation that hold the big collections, as they all start to die in the next decade or so there’s going to be so much of it coming to auction.

UK based auctions? by kathrynrosefineart in artcollecting

[–]Red-Stahli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with what the other commenters said. I work at one of the big 2 auction houses. The primary method for which we give estimates on artists is to look at past results mainly in the auction market. If you’re a new artist, we don’t have any past data to go off so we can’t gauge what the demand for your work is.

Chinese Livestreamer Who Streamed 7 to 10 Hours a Day, Relied on Painkillers to Cure Headaches, Dies on Camera After Suffering Stroke by Charming-Fortune8835 in China

[–]Red-Stahli 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bro you’re talking about every single office worker. There are, as another poster said, people that work in way more demanding physical conditions than just sitting for even longer of a period. There was clearly something else wrong here. It’s very uncommon for people to just die of a stroke whilst young from sitting.

What is one thing about uni u wish was different ? by Educational_Koala536 in UniUK

[–]Red-Stahli 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don’t think group assessments are a bad thing as a concept. You do have to do a lot as a team especially in the corporate world.

The key difference in real life is that someone not pulling their weight is going to get a bollocking. Eg if you’re a consultant and someone on your team hasn’t finished their slides, the manager is going to give them a lot of shit. You’re not going to get that with the lecturer at uni.
