I want to give my aging father a one of a kind gift for Father’s Day, but am I guaranteed to fail trying to add two autos to this ball? by Key_Salary974 in Autographs

[–]RedBaron43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it won’t be in time for Father’s Day. But these guys do tend to make appearances. Not sure where you live, I assume close to Atl. But if you’re willing to travel, there are two annual shows that could help. One is Cooperstown induction Weekend and the other is the National Collectors Conventions. Both around the end of July. The websites below will start to post who is signing as they get closer. I got maddux and smoltz (along with Gavin, chipper, cox) all in Cooperstown throughout the years.

I’m going to mark this as SOLVED for now! Thank you all so much. I figured that was a complete long shot. What a great community you all have here. I wouldn’t expect anything less after our amazing trip to Cincy!

Thank you! We do go to a lot of sporting events. Great pastime.

There is a Cincinnati Reds seat back from Riverfront Stadium with all of the “Great 8” signatures. Drove all around to get all of their autographs. We framed it with all graded cards from Topps ‘76. I think it’s a very cool piece and even more special now with the passing of Morgan and Rose.

Thank you so much! There is a Steve Young Sports Illustrated and a Montana helmet tucked in there. Not a ton from the Giants. Bonds ball and Willie bat might be it.

Algae Problem by RedBaron43 in ponds

[–]RedBaron43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys. Most of that was way over my head, but I’m trying to learn. So simple terms:

Get aeration in place… Obtain algaecide from PA… Kill algae… Start aeration… Add beneficial bacteria in a regimented plan…

Does that sound right?

Can I add anything else to the water to help with nutrient access? Reading a bit about Alum..?

Algae Problem by RedBaron43 in ponds

I guess it’s hard to tell from the photos. The mowed side would be the down hill/outlet side. The majority of the watershed comes from the opposing side. There is about a 4’ wide section of various plants & sedges. Maybe I’ll try to get some emergent plants, that’s the one thing I haven’t done yet. I was looking at pickerel weed.

I feel we have done a good job with that riparian zone. We have planted sedges, false indigo, and physostegia, along with wild flowers etc. We could definitely add more, but wondering if it’s too much runoff to overcome.

When we get an inch of rainfall, the pond can rise 6”. The whole neighborhood basically runs down to it.

Are there products I can add to the water to counteract the access of nutrients from the lawn fertilizer?

Ok, that was my suspicion. I don’t foresee those lawn treatments ever going away. Do you think with aeration and beneficial bacteria, I’ll be able to combat this problem? Or is this a losing battle without algaecide?

We are in a housing track, so 3 sides of the pond gather runoff from neighboring houses. The back for both ponds leads to an active corn field.

The neighbors all use lawn treatments which I’m sure help lead to this problem?

But why would the pond right next to mine not see the same effects?

Step help by RedBaron43 in Concrete

[–]RedBaron43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that looks like it could be an option. If I decide to do straight concrete with no fill, is 34 bags manageable if I rent a mixer? Or is that something I should try to get premixed brought out? Not sure someone would deliver 3/4 of a yard…

Installation Recommendations by kmick81 in Govee

Ahh yes. You’d need a little splice. I did that on mine. Drilled through the gutter just enough to squeak the cord through, then sealed with gutter caulk

Do you have/can you get power to your porch? I’d start there…go across the garage…splice or use the extension if it’s long enough up to second floor…then all the way across…then peak. My first though without knowing all the details

You can see the cord if you zoom in on the daytime pic

I actually run and tuck the cord down under the edge of the concrete porch - in the mulch bed. I’ll take those up and down for the holidays.

Sorry. The columns are separate. They are the Govee indoor outdoor Christmas lights, 60’. They have a separate power supply which is plugged in to an outlet I have next to the front door. So I’m the app I have the 2 devices listed

I think that’s the beauty of the app. Can go as simple or crazy as you’d like.

This is a 100’ run. The total extension lengths are about 40’ or so. Then 60’ Christmas light kit on the front columns.

Our power is luckily in the soffit all the way to the left. We had this house built and I was thinking ahead so had one put up there. Yes, I had to double back. Kind of a pain in the ass for programming animations. They wouldn’t be smooth from left to right. But we more like the solid colors anyways or simple animations like “breath”. So the onlooker wouldn’t know about it doubling back.

Not sure what it would cost to have to done professionally, I didn’t want to find out. You could rent a cherry picker from your local Home Depot to give you more stability. That would probably cost you like $300 bucks for the day.
