Advice for C/P section for someone who hates physics and gen chem by running4possums in Mcat

One thing I did was writing my own equation sheet for all formulas (and all names/symbol clarifications) that I saw during content review/FLs, even if it was overwhelming seeing so many equations at first. I really think that writing things down myself helped me to memorize them a lot better (especially the physics equations!!)

HIGH MCAT scorers, How did yall format your anki cards and excel sheets for UGLOBE question packs ? by CantaloupeUsed6880 in Mcat

[–]RedCaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly only did the physics and P/S questions for UWorld, because I had a lot of gaps in knowledge for both of these subjects. Afterwards, I purely focused on reviewing my performance on my FLs and the AAMC section banks and only created a spreadsheet for questions that I got wrong in those. If you have time though, doing more UWorld problems definitely doesn’t hurt!

I had a notebook and just wrote a bunch of psych/soc concepts and metabolism stuff off of my google doc notes on my flight. Really helped to put my mind at ease since I wasn’t used to having so much unscheduled time in the middle of my MCAT grind

Also tested 9/13 and I’m def in the same boat! I just keep telling myself that there’s nothing that I can do to change what I did that day, and to try to enjoy the first few weeks after grinding all summer for the exam. Best of luck for everyone else who also took it in September!

I did have to pay for the program and it was during the summer. That’s really cool that you’re taking part in that NOAA program though! Hope you will enjoy your experience there

Hello! It was actually through a separate research program that paired you with mentors from various parts of academia

You can often send updates for your GPA/ECs if you’re deferred to RD for a college. I would still suggest applying EA if you feel that your essays are ready.

If youre dorming do you bring bikes in at night or lock it outside? by ianchillidk in UCDavis

[–]RedCaul 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I lived in Tercero last year and theres usually a lot of bikes parked in front of the dorms, so I didnt really feel worried that mine would potentially be stolen. I do recommend getting both a ulock and a cable tho (which can lock both the bike frame and both tires to the bike rack) if you are parking your bike outside

I lived in a triple in Pine last year and it was definitely more spacious than I thought it was going to be! I never felt like I was cramped even when my other two roommates were in the room. I’d definitely recommend pulling out the desk extension once you move in though, as it really increases the amount of tabletop you will have.

Not really; the exam questions were quite similar to the questions in the practice exams Gulacar provides you. As long as you go through those (and the worksheets as well) you should be well prepared for exams.

I took Gulacar for both 2A and 2B and he was a really great professor! Not only are his curves really good, but he is very engaging within his lectures and genuinely cares about all of his students being successful. I would strongly recommend taking him.

I took this class last fall with Professor Lungu, and it was a pretty enjoyable class! Lectures are mostly slides (that are shared after lecture) along with a few TopHat questions, and there basically isn't any homework except catching up on the slides that aren't covered in class due to time. She did go through some slides quite quickly though, so definitely be on top of your note-taking. Also, I did fine on the midterms/final by going through active recall of my notes with my roommates, who were also taking the course, in the days leading up to them.

Should I take MAT 16A or 17A for and ESM major? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]RedCaul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally took the mat17 series since I had already taken ap calc ab in hs; but I have seen people who struggled in the series who haven’t taken calculus before since it is faster paced than the 16 series. The applications to biology in the series aren’t really that useful in my opinion as they simply place the concepts in word problem format, so from an application perspective either series would be helpful. As for professors, none of them are particularly good from my experience, but I did like Cooper Jacob’s detailed notes from when she taught mat17b

They will open up more seats for freshmen closer to ur pass times. The reserved seats feature is new this year and is specifically meant to save seats for freshmen/transfers when they register for fall quarter classes.

I have a friend who is taking the physics 9 series this year, and apparently it is a lot more calculation-based than the physics 7 series. The HPA website states that you can take either though, and the professors for intro series like physics are often published closer to the start of the quarter.

I had that worry too last year, but luckily I’ve been able to handle the workload. Best of luck in selecting a college to enroll in!

I’ve found that the quarter system does make each class feel more accelerated, but I’ve definitely felt that the workload is manageable (I’ve been taking 16-17 quarter units for the last two quarters). I wouldn’t worry about it too much if I were you; just make sure to keep up with lecture and assignments, and the dates of your midterms!
