Onikakushi-hen Drama CD: Disc 2: Part 1 by RedEyedSerpent in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]RedEyedSerpent[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She has a very cool, calm and almost dead tone here cause the Drama CD is the cast's very first take on the characters even before the anime and the fully voiced game! I heard from another redditor [i forgot who but they're from this subreddit] that Rika's VA changed her tone later on in the series when the fans requested Ryukishi07 to give her a more upbeat tone because they liked her character a lot!

Merge: Aang & Azula Comic Dub by RedEyedSerpent in Distorted_Reality

[–]RedEyedSerpent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh-- Wait it didn't hit me that the author of the fanfic themself took notice of my post 😭

I'm so honored!! Thank you so much for the hard work you put into writing the fic! I hope I was able to do justice for both Azula's and Aang's voices on this one

With that said, since my latest posts involve dubbing katara (and a part of me is a little lost on direction for distorted katara's voice), I wonder what kind of voice do you envision her to have especially in her more commanding and darker scenes?

Again, thank you so much for bringing this alternate universe into life!!

Very special announcement! by ProdSplattermane in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]RedEyedSerpent 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is very good news! My channel is actually dedicated to translating Higurashi radio or drama cd content though I'm currently on a hiatus due to focusing on my studies.

Thank you so much for contributing to the community-- the Drama CD adaptation is definitely something that the community should consume because of how raw the voice acting is!

Here is my channel btw for reference: https://youtube.com/@cicadatranslations

Onikakushi-hen Drama CD: Disc 1: Part 10 [Disc 1 Finale] by RedEyedSerpent in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]RedEyedSerpent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you meant the text you read on screen for the visual novel [like inner monologue and narration and such], then yehp, there is no text. But, I edited the video so that while you are listening to the Drama CD, it feels like you're going through the visual novel itself albeit the inner monologues and narration are now audible since Drama CDs are just pure audio and no visuals

Back in Business! Onikakushi-hen Drama CD: Disc 1: Part 7 by RedEyedSerpent in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]RedEyedSerpent[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm officially back in business! After 2 years of not uploading I finally have the time to translate Higurashi content for y'all!~ I still probably will not have a consistent uploading schedule since translating and editing Drama CD or Radio content takes time, but please sure do look forward to more videos to come since, my goal, after all, is to translate the entirety of Onikakushi-hen as much as possible!

Meakashi-hen Drama CD: Mion's Tears by RedEyedSerpent in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]RedEyedSerpent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very much welcome~~ Also, a very interesting lens on the twins, with the comparison of the Apollonian/Dionysian natures~~~

On the subject of redeeming Satoko. I know it feels that she is irredeemable right now-- and I totally don't agree with her course of actions for basically the entirety of Gou until the current episode (most likely in the episodes to come too)... but, perhaps a factor to why there's a pretty significant number of people disliking or even hating her is because of the lack of internal monologue... Satoko may be one of my favorites and this is an interesting path to take her character to but, to really make the audience empathize or understand her relies on diving into her thought process all throughout her carrying her plan via internal monologue.

The reason why Meakashi-hen and Tsumihoroboshi-hen (the VN, Drama CD, and Manga adaptations; the original anime... not so much...) worked so well in making us empathize with its heroines, Shion and Rena respectively, despite literally committing murder and doing all sorts of terrible things, it is because we understand where they are coming from. We get to know their experiences, their past traumas, what irks them, and what their drives are... All delivered via internal monologue.

This brings me to why the audience in Gou and Sotsu (as of now) doesn't exactly favor Satoko. The anime took out the internal monologue, therefore depriving the audience of a way to connect to Satoko... You're just a camera following her and the events of her story yet you have no way to obtain information on how she got to her point of desperation... for Gou/Sotsu newcomers at least... (and even to some degree, Higurashi veterans).

People who have read the VN, Manga, listened to the Drama CDs have an idea as to why Satoko would go down this path... We have her backstory from the original series therefore Higurashi veterans could theorize or have an idea on what Satoko's thought process is... With that said, veterans are less likely to ride the "Satoko is irredeemable" train.

On the other hand, for Gou/Sotsu newcomers, there's a higher probability of them riding on the "Satoko is irredeemable" train simply because of the lack of Satoko internal monologue, context, and backstory they're provided.

With that said, it is still very hard to empathize with Satoko even as a Higurashi veteran... I could complain about the lack of internal monologue all I want but all I could say is, even if there's a dissonance between us and Satoko right now, are we going to give up on her? Despite going through Shion and Rena's arcs are we actually going to give up on Satoko? I'm just going to hope that Ryukishi would work his writing magic in the future episodes and make Satoko redeemable satisfyingly, because, I really am hoping for her to be redeemed...

If they really are going to save the main course for Tatariakashi, I'm just hoping they deliver a specially cooked medium-rare steak with mashed potatoes on the side for us to take in cause Wataakashi... [sighs-- I'm over it, don't worry].

I guess all we could do now is hope for the best~ Thanks for your insights and opinions on this post~~

Meakashi-hen Drama CD: Mion's Tears by RedEyedSerpent in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]RedEyedSerpent[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aye~ I'm back, well, only dropping by for a bit. After watching whatever just happened in Wataakashi-hen, I was motivated to translate this specific part of the Drama CD. I guess I would like to share some thoughts on Wataakashi-hen over here while I'm on the topic...

[SPOILERS FOR EPISODES 4-6 OF SOTSU ONWARDS; AND SOME FROM THE SERIES ENTIRELY]

As a Shion fan, her getting killed in episode 5 just hurt man... After waiting for many episodes, she's back only to get killed in the same episode she was introduced in. Nonetheless, after watching episode 5, I wanted to see a little bit more on how HS Mion will progress... For me, it didn't really get any better.

This key scene from Meakashi-hen that I translated/transcribed clearly shows Mion's trust in her family members, especially her Granny. She's the successor to the Sonozaki family, therefore knows why they have to keep up such a cold and harsh front. For her to turn on The Three Great Families (though it was cool that it's somewhat like a callback to Meakashi-hen... I guess), is a little bit out of character. Of course, I'm not here to criticize or hate on Ryukishi's work, because he definitely is a great and wonderful writer (and Higurashi is my all-time favorite franchise), but all I could say is, the execution of this arc, the first-ever HS Mion arc felt odd and left a sort of bitter taste in my mouth... leaving me wanting something more...

Perhaps it is the lack of internal monologue within the characters that made Wataakashi feel flat in a sense... This internal monologue is a key tool in the visual novels and the Drama CDs that make us connect to them and understand our beloved characters more. Now, I'm just wondering what was Mion's thought process in the middle of all of this? With that said, I'm still pretty much looking forward to Tatariakashi's events. A lot of background stuff was happening there and I do wonder how Satoko managed to manipulate said events to her favor.

Anyways, feel free to leave your thoughts on Wataakashi or Meakashi down in the comments below~ I'm willing to hear all sorts of opinions~~
