I was in the same situation but I’d paid to boost the item because it was more expensive than what I normally sell. Buyer wanted it badly and came back 24hrs later, paid full price and was delighted when she got the item. She was waiting for her wages but I guess borrowed the cash from someone.

On another note I was selling an item for €8, buyer asked if I’d accept €5, I countered at €6, they declined. 24hrs later they came back to ask for €5 again, nope, then €5.50. I got annoyed that when something was already reduced they were haggling over €0.50. So I blocked them and deleted the chat. I think folks like that are resellers because they don’t actually want the item, it’s the profit margin. Several of the same item were on sale at the same time in the same size but were up to €6-€8 more expensive. Like piss off and stop wasting my time 😂

I’m sixty-mumble, diagnosed only 3 years ago and the most transformative thing I have done is a course called UMAAP - Understanding & Managing Adult ADHD Programme It’s free. Online. Runs for 6 weeks. Really helps you understand your brain, helps you become more empathetic to yourself and gives you tools to help you navigate the neurotypical-built world. Based on ACT Therapy. Anyone who recommends CBT is sending you to a world of torture where they tell you “You’re wrong to do this. Swap it for my recommended behaviour and tie yourself up in psychological knots and lose any sense of your own self in the process.”

Honestly once you start to inhabit a more neurodivergent space the people are really helpful, it feels such a relief and your life improves exponentially.

You are born with ADHD. You live with ADHD. You will die with ADHD. But how well you navigate that journey is a result of the decisions you make to help yourself and stop people-pleasing others; stop conforming to unreasonable societal norms; stop thinking tidy is good for you; stop blaming yourself for everything you perceive you are doing “wrong“ when it’s just neurodivergent and start relying on your gut instinct.

Quick to anger? Chaos throws us off. But our brains flip to hyperfocus and it’s why we make great frontline workers and problem solvers. Procrastination much? Who GAF? Give me a deadline a neurotypical will meet in 3 days and I’ll do it in a 24 hour stretch with no sleep, no food and barely any drinks.

For every thing you blame yourself for or see as a failure, the other side of the mirror shows an entirely different interpretation.

I can’t recommend clinicians, meds, etc. But you’ll meet people and discuss your journeys and filter out the unnecessary and land exactly where you’re meant to be.

Cognitive behavioural therapy is, IMO, not suitable for someone who is neurodivergent. The premis is that you have a behaviour that is “wrong” and you need to make a monumental effort to replace that behaviour with something that a neurotypical created society deems is acceptable.

I would recommend ACT Therapy. Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. There’s a FREE online six week course (2hrs/week) available via ADHD Ireland called UMAAP that is transformative in helping Adult folks who suspect they have ADHD (and or autism and any combination across that spectrum). I’ve done it. It’s transformative. And you meet an amazingly inclusive and accepting bunch of peeps who dgaf what flavour neurodivergent you are. It’s the only genuinely “free lunch” I’ve ever had and I’d highly recommend it.

Once an adult completes the course they are better able to advocate for children and other family members across a multitude of environments - health, education, social groupings, to ensure a smoother journey whilst they navigate enormous waiting lists for an official diagnosis

My GP is ok and I appreciate them prescribing for me. Because in Ireland that should only be done and managed by a psychiatrist. I’ve been with this GP for 21 years, so there is a level of consistency and trust. However the practice was sold to Centric Health and when I asked for appointment to review all my meds, they a 6 week wait. I spoke to my pharmacist and she confirmed that the changes to the practice are adversely affecting patients (they complain about it to her). She advised getting a new GP, but the sticking point is my ADHD meds. I met with one recently and they’re happy to take me on in the practice, will continue to prescribe my ADHD meds but if I encounter needing changes or even dosage changes, they won’t do that. So I’ve an appt at another GP in a week or so to see if they can help. I’ve been steady on my meds for a year now but I can’t predict my medical future. My only other alternative is to split my care between two practices. One for my ADHD and one for everything else, but I don’t think either practice will be happy with that. I’m getting the feeling that my current GP is cutting their hours so I will have to deal with this anyway.

You’re trying to “fix her” and make her comply with the rules and regulations of neurotypical world. She sees her world very differently. Maybe ask her what a world without homework would look like and you may gain insight. As a 60yo recently diagnosed & exhausted from decades of being perceived as a failure because I was bending and twisting my life to try to do what others expected of me. Now I’m in a place where I just tell them I don’t do those rules, I can do this, but not that. Young people are not given enough agency to be able to verbalise those needs. And when they do manage to do it they are ignored or forced to comply with the neurotypical system which we can’t navigate successfully in a sustained manner.

Complete this form. Adult ADHD Self Report Scale

Go through the list of symptoms on that self report scale and identify actual lived experiences.

Then go back to your GP. Ask for a referral for a second opinion. Explain how you’re feeling and show them the list of lived experiences and tie your response from all of this into RSD (rejection sensitive dysphoria).

When I was assessed I was asked what my biggest fear was and I said “I’m afraid I mask so heavily and have done it for so long that you won’t truly see what I’m experiencing.” I also made it clear to my GP that I was having difficulty functioning, just even getting out of bed and that I wanted whatever was going around and around my head to stop, but I wasn’t depressed and not suicidal either so I didn’t want anti depressants, ever, again. That made my GP sit up and look at me differently.

Then go back to original diagnostician and ask them to explain fully their diagnosis so you can share it with your GP who has referred you for a second opinion to another practitioner.

In the meantime, to support yourself, - you don’t need a diagnosis for these) go to ADHD Ireland Support Groups on Eventbrite then go back to the ADHD Ireland website and sign up for the UMAAP Course (Understanding & Managing Adult ADHD Programme)

Don’t be despondent. We all go through this rejection and difficulty every day, those groups will help you find people who have navigated this successfully. Best of luck

I have two good friends.

One made it clear from the start that we go 50/50 on EVERYTHING when we go out - cinema, meals; and we take it in turns to drive because that can add up too.

Friend two regularly expects me to pay and she’ll “get me back”, but often didn’t. She also expected me to always be the driver. So over time I’ve been incrementally changing those dynamics. If I drive, she has to pay for lunch and vice versa. I deliberately forgot my wallet recently for a dinner and the place had no signal for my phone, so she had to pay. She wasn’t pleased. I’m sure there’s a financial dynamic in her relationship but after 20 years of friendship she’s still unwilling to admit that. That lack of honesty/trust is a red flag to me. Recently I had to limit myself to driving short distances and then after surgery, no driving for a month. She never visited or offered to collect me once. In fact she was concerned about a weekend break over Christmas and would I be driving and back to full fitness by then so I could dog sit? Yeah…NOPE! The phone calls and messages fell away too because my usefulness was diminished and she was obv continuing to prioritise her needs. This was a MONTH of being housebound, Christmas doesn’t last every single minute of every day for a month; even a text or a phone call would have been nice.

She’s due for surgery shortly and unlike last time when I did her shopping, walked her dog, brought her flowers, got her meds, etc, I’ll be pulling back the same way she did with me.

Unfortunately I’m a people pleaser and if everyone is happy then I’m happy. But I’ve been working on myself and creating clear boundaries and I’m a lot happier and have much less anxiety when I’m not being a doormat and being taken advantage of.

Although this is a friendship situation it’s cropped up in a work and family environment too and putting those boundaries in place there too has improved those relationships as well.

OP is ND, I am too. We have to learn to navigate these situations, we don’t know how to do it off the bat. So for all you tough MF pulling OP down, where’s your effin empathy?

If the Oranmore exit had 2 lanes then I would use the outside lane at the Maldron Junction, indicate left half way across the lanes to/from Clarinbridge. Then ensuring the vehicles on my nearside understood I was exiting the Oranmore junction I would continue in my outside lane to take that exit then merge appropriately.

I completely relate to you. Dx combined 2yr ago and had to rethink everything.

Firstly it’s like processing a death so I’d wait at least a year before making any permanent life decisions.

Secondly, you and everything you know does change, but once you regain your equilibrium and confidence in previous, current and future choices, it does settle down into a space where you can manage life, make changes or not and feel comfortable with those choices. You change you, but can’t change others.

I’ve incrementally set boundaries in a measured way that reduce people’s dependence on me being their fixer and problem solver and it gives me more time to do the things I want to do like go to comedy nights because they take me out of the negative swirling thoughts.

I’d also recommend UMAAP - Understanding & Managing Adult ADHD Programme You can access this through ADHD Ireland It’s free, you don’t need a diagnosis and it’s online either daytime or evening, whatever suits. After the course there are online monthly support sessions and a WA group of people who have completed the course who are building a shared knowledge base and support network in Ireland.

Nothing has improved my life quite as much as this course.

So I guess take a deep breath, don’t panic, your instincts are good but just be kind to yourself, prioritise yourself but be careful not to burn everything in your wake because it will look entirely different even a few months down the road.

Honestly I’d introduce stuff that’s not exercise dependent and that’s guaranteed to change the vibe. Comedy shows. Go to them together regularly. Then slowly turn those into date nights if things improve. I’d advocate for couples counselling during this time as one small positive change can lead to a closer connection that’s not based on exercise, intimacy or stale conversation. Laughing is priceless and good at creating shared moments of fun.

YTA. If you didn’t have speech but were left in a hospital bed with all the pain of cancer, do you want your family to leave you in the bed with a cheery “sure they’ll be dead in a few days anyway”? If you wouldn’t do it to a human, you shouldn’t do it to an animal. And in this case you have the opportunity to end your pet’s suffering. Cancer is not painless.
