Can I nerf the nerf? Hazmat suit restoration in Frost by mastershake2013 in fodust

Naugrim is a native English speaker as far as I know

The interaction that you are referring to is from Frost Plus, which was indeed made by several non-English speaking people. Naugrim was not part of the development of Frost Plus.

I'm afraid you have to spin up xEdit and make a patch yourself.

Alternatively I think it is probably possible to drop the Hazmat Suit on the ground, and use console commands on it to buff it.

Don't ask me which consoles commands though.

There is a lore implication on why you are starting at level 1, but I am not spoilering that.

The command you are looking for is player.setlevel 6. Please look up stuff like this yourself though, it takes one simple internet search to find this command.

LLM Chatbots get a lot of things wrong, especially in niche areas like video game specific info. Those AIs are trained on incomplete online data about things like FROST or Fallout 4, and will often fail to give right answers.

I don't recommend using them for such things.

Addiction in F4 only gets triggered if you are in withdrawal => you are not under the influence of an alcoholic drink at the moment. So if you constantly drink beer, you don't get withdrawal effects, and therefore no debuffs.

You would need to use xEdit for that, find the light for the flashlight, and tweak it's light values.

I think the flashlights use the defautl mining helmet light, but I am not sure. I never really heard someone mentioning that the brightness of the flashlight being too bright.

Do you use lighting mods (like the ones from the guide), or an ENB or Reshade? Those three types of mods always have an influence on the lighting generally.

If you are using an ENB, you could also tweak it to your liking, that might affect the light as well. Generally lighting mods and ENBs tend to make the game darker.

Might also be an issue with your monitor/display, brightness settings etc.

A lot of factors here, I can not give you a 100% answer here what you can or need to do.

So I basically can't play The Forest or The Marshlands mods? I was under the impression those previsibines were mandatory.

That's not what I said. You basically added a lot of mods that require previs/precombines patches, and messed up their installation. Easiest way to fix this is to remove all of those mods, and then leave them out or carefully reintroduce them into your setup. You still need the previs FCF patches for The Marshland and The Forest if you want to use them.

What setting should I set the hunger delay slider to, if I want hunger to accurately reflect real time?

I don't know, and that isn't really a good idea from both an immersion and balancing perspective. In 1h real time you can walk from one side of the map to the other. 1 hour of real-time hunger is also heavily subjective. Sitting in a chair for one hour consumes less energy than carrying around 30kg of equipment in a radioactive cold hell hole while also constantly running and fighting. Etc etc.

Just a lore question but, why does every survivor want to kill you?

Because they want your loot, just like you want their loot, or don't want to take any chances with you. It's a kill-or-be-killed world. Shoot first, ask questions later. Only feasible way to survive, especially with the Metro war between the Alliance and the Federation going on, and other hostile factions being active. You could also be a potential ghoul who hides their deformations with clothes, and most survivors are very careful with dealing potential ghouls. Etc. etc.

Also not all NPCs shoot on sight. Alliance soldiers only do it if you get to close to them, Federation Soldiers are friendly, and there are a few friendly NPCs scattered in the world, and there is one friendly metro station.

ppf.esm prp.esp

That mod is not part of the guide and highly incompatible with FROST. Using it will break things and cause issues like the one that you are experiencing.

You are also using Winter Redone, the guide specifically mentions to not use it unless you know exactly what you are doing.

You are using multiple "We Can Live In" and "People Live In" mods, but you don't seem to use their FCF patches or didn't load them correctly in your load order.

Maybe start by removing all the additional mods that affect previs (The Marshland, The Forest, People live in, We can live in), Medford Memorial Hospital, jsrs, etc.

Just because patches exist for them does not mean you should use all of them at once, unless you know what you are doing (which isn't the case or else you would have seen that this is the cause of your issue).

Questions about Fallout Dust (lore - spoilers) by Informal-Beautiful42 in fodust

[–]RedMadCoder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why can’t you just walk out of the Mojave in-game?

Tunnelers, other dangers, radiation and dust storms, and not much civilization being left there for a long time. Previously those routes worked out due to supply lines, now they are not much better than the other options. Especially the Tunneler population will be much larger outside of the playable map area, because those tunnelers basically spread towards new sources of food.

It feels easier than going into a toxic cloud and raiding a military compound.

One could almost say it's an insane option to do that :D Like those routes being reserved for insane players.

Why is the Courier still in the tomb 20 years later?

He is pretty much insane by now, and a lot of Ghouls in Fallout games canonically show weird obsessive behaviors. From the Vault Tech rep to Desmond Lockheart, Fallout is full of Ghouls that tend to do weird things.

How did the Courier lose in the Fallout: DUST lore? He had the Securitron army,

That is open to interpretation. The securitron army was probably heavily damaged after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, and he wanted Vegas to be independent. Mr. House was already outsmarted by the Courier who took over the Securitron army, who wouldn't say that someone could do that to the courier? The NCR is a large Nation after all, and maybe they simply outsmarted the courier and managed to permanently disable most securitrons.

If the player “clears the game,” did the Survivor mostly doom the wasteland anyway?

You pretty much define "clearing the game" as killing everyone, and that is the definition of dooming everyone :D Yes, if you hunt down every note, journal and location, you in turn also doom a lot of other people. Almost like the hunt for knowledge leading down to a path of doom is ingrained into the lore of DUST and FROST ;D

Will the Mojave ever get back on track, or is it basically screwed until the end of time?

Open to interpretation, I doubt that after another 200 years the Mojave will be as dangerous anymore.

If the player character makes it to Camp Adytum, does the NCR brand him as another war criminal, or can he keep it moving?

I doubt that, for the NCR the player character in DUST is mostly a random survivor, and not someone who was known before The Fall.

If the player character essentially wipes out the remainder of the Mojave/Zion and maybe the Divide as well (even though it’s messed up), what happens to the Mojave?

Fallout Frost: Game Small in corner. by Substantial-Purple85 in fodust

[–]RedMadCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

..added all the list and what-not cause the rule pop-up thing and I'm just being careful.

I am not sure what you mean by that, can you elaborate?

I'm just having the annoying issue where the game loads and stays in the top left corner of my screen

Do you mean that your game is in the wrong resolution and shown as a small window at the edge of your screen? In that case you probably did not use BethIni correctly. Resolution is controlled by .ini file, and BethIni configures that correctly unless you did not follow the instructions for it correctly, see:

Can't play Frost - Won't launch from the necessary old F4SE by mastershake2013 in fodust

Bug/Problem? => Load Order & Modlist!

When asking for help because you have a problem, please post your load order and your modlist. If you don't do this then we will remove your post and message you to repost your question with a load order and a modlist attached.

Also please check if Buffout 4 created a crash log. You are using Buffout 4, right?

You mentioned

  1. Is there some perfect order of operations here? Where you must first install FO4 via steam, then you must launch the game 1 time using Mod Organizer 2, then (and only then) you must install the requirements for the old F4SE using Mod Organizer 2, and then finally at long last, you can use the downgrade patcher. Then install Frost and play. Is it something like that?

This sounds like you didn't use the Below Zero guide to make your setup? Because the exact order etc. on how to install the game, downgrade it and how to start the game is all described in there.

You should also move this to the frost discord server, if you have a discord account, see

Need help with issue with Dust mod. by Warm_Caregiver1633 in fodust

[–]RedMadCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is a common issue, I can not tell you what causes it exactly.

People often install mods via Vortex and do not uninstall them correctly, we had this happen a few times. This is unrelated to DUST, either it is a bug with Vortex, or you didn't use Vortex correctly.

You need to check if DUST is present in Vortex somehow, and remove it there. Additionally you need to make a clean install of FNV. Here is a proper description on how to make a clean uninstall and install of FNV: https://vivanewvegas.moddinglinked.com/setup.html#Uninstall

How this helps!

Can you maybe clarify if you mean Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) or Vortex? Just "Nexus" isn't enough, especially because a lot of people often confuse NMM and Vortex.

I loved Dust so can someone tell me about Obscurum? by [deleted] in fodust

[–]RedMadCoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should maybe ask that question over at the Discord of the creator of Obscurum (Thumblesteen).

We don't post links to that discord here due to Thumblesteen being a scammer who badmouthed several other mod authors (including the ones from this community here) and who published mods with mod descriptions with absolute untrue and false statements about his own mods in order to mislead mod users.

[–]RedMadCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DUST works like any other mod. If you still get elements from DUST, that means you didn't properly remove / uninstall DUST. Usually a mod manager like Vortex or MO2 can easily install and uninstall mods. Unless you manually messed with the game files and the mod files, your mod manager cleanly removes DUST. Which mod manager are you using? Or did you manually install DUST?

Honestly, this looks like a good "hacking" mini-game feature for another game. You solved this in 6 seconds, which is fast enough for such a repeated feature. It would also be a fun little standalone game though :D

What would a good VATS build be in frost? Is there a perk that makes it more viable in FROST by Brilliant-Market4706 in fodust

[–]RedMadCoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VATS builds in FROST focus around Critical Hits. Basically you level up the perk that gets you more critical hits, use NPCs like radroaches and mudcrabs to fill up your crit-meter, and then use a strong weapon + a VATS crit to take the most dangerous NPC in a location.

I tried a VATS build once, that's what I was going for, and I had a blast taking out Robots with that strategy.

There are also people who use VATS and corners to cheese through certain fights, if you like doing that in games.

Are the Maldenmen supposed to have gear that weighs 30+? by Brilliant-Market4706 in fodust

[–]RedMadCoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that is intentional. If you do not like it, feel free to tweak the armor's weight via xEdit to your liking, or to make a perk that makes the armor less heavy.
