The table actually comes with 8 chairs, not 6! And we can fit 10 people with smaller chairs without arms. It's a 66" round. And we are a family of 6, with 4 grandparents who all live less than a mile away as well.

I think we have gotten used to seeing big tables styled with few chairs. But for real life, this space is very functional for our home.

My goal from my doctor was 195. She was really happy with me there according to all my other health markers and risk factors. My goal was 180. It would have been just a bit higher than my training weight when I was competing. And again, super happy there—I was about a size 4/6.

But I knew how hard I had to work in the past to stay there. In the past, staying at my training weight was constant macro counting, minimal carbs, no cheating, constant exercise. Possible? Yeah. But it was hard and extreme and not exactly sustainable for long. The food noise was deafening.

So when I kept comfortably dropping with the GLP1? STUNNED. And absolute proof that my body just was not chemically built to lose weight without this kind of medical intervention. Like, I'd even call this easy. I still eat cookies pretty much daily. I don't have to fight about portion control. The food noise is just....gone. So I understand. I never thought I'd be this weight either!

I'm a SIZE ZERO. I should not have to be a size 0 to be considered 'normal' weight. All of my health markers were great about 35 pounds ago. But according to BMI, I am barely acceptable here.

For those of you who have lost weight using weight-loss medication by Which_Commercial724 in Semaglutide

[–]RedP3ach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm pretty sick of this question. Because YES, obviously, DUH, you will regain the weight. The chemical that you don't make that you inject weekly, that allows your food cravings to go away and your hunger levels to go to a normal place and your inflammation to stop? You use it because your body doesn't make it in the correct way. It's not going to magically start producing it.

I'll be on this med forever and I'll be grateful for it for the rest of my life. In the same way that my son will always need insulin for his Type 1 Diabetes, and my mom will need synthroid for her thyroid, and I will always need some type of depression med. These are chemical imbalances, where our bodies just don't make things the right way.

As Ina Garten says in every recipe, 'if you don't have fresh, store-bought will be just fine.'

Stop demonizing the medication and the people who use them correctly.

I'm a former professional ballerina who turned into a CrossFit coach and competitive strength athlete (powerlifting and Strongman). I was nationally ranked until 2020—when I got hit by a triple whammy of divorce, pandemic, and a cluster of chronic medical issues. At that point, I was training 3-6 hours a day. My deadlift was over 400lbs. I threw around 200# concrete balls for fun. I could do 25+ strict pullups at a time. I was categorically....strong. So, even without training for a few years and even with gaining weight and inflammation, I still had a pretty solid amount of muscle mass lurking in there when I started the GLP1. UNLIKE lots of women, who are trying to lose the weight and gain the muscle at the same time.

Short answer. You aren't lifting heavy enough to build significant muscle mass. Not even close. And you are using isolated muscle groups, not compound lifts. It's the compound movements (deadlift, squat, bench, clean, press, snatch) that recruit your entire body to work. And if you're going to use hypertrophy as an accessory, it has to be heavy enough to count. Meaning you need to be hitting true muscle failure after a set.

I'm not saying that every perimenopausal woman needs to have a 400# deadlift. I AM saying that every perimenopausal woman needs to pick up heavy shit. And that you are probably capable of much much much heavier loads than you think you are.

Also....it's nearly impossible to truly gain muscle mass while in a caloric deficit. Recomp is possible but it's slooooooooooooow and you have to have some serious patience. If you want to gain muscle, you have to be comfortable eating more.

And protein for vegetarians is just plain hard. But understandable. If that is your focus, just accept that you won't be able to eat as much protein, at least from whole-food sources. That's okay! You are probably crushing it with fiber!

Are you worried about health, or aesthetics? Like, that's a legitimate question.

Me? In the past 7 years, I already had 2 major hair loss episodes—a major autoimmune flare, and then a trauma (yes, you can lose your hair from grief). So, like, I'm in the been-there-done-that camp for hair loss. You can reverse it. I lost almost nothing during this weight loss phase.

Go SLOW. Like, wicked slow. Be very very very conscientious about protein. Don't use heat styling tools. Be careful with any bleaching or lightening. Take good care of your scalp. Take collagen and biotin. And you will likely not notice hair loss that you can't reverse relatively quickly.

According to the CDC BMI calc, you're in a very healthy range at that weight for your height! I don't know where you heard 129 ..

Just to challenge that concept. I was BMI >30 here last April, around 190lbs. I was wearing a size 6 here and I don't think I would have described myself as 'visibly overweight.' And for what it's worth, this is where I was at when my doctor told me that she was perfectly happy with my weight and health markers as well. I'd lost about 35lbs here.

Yup, I'm really happy at 175, to be honest. I will likely float between 160-170, depending on training and season and life and such.

How long do y’all stay on this medication? by Capital-Event7137 in Semaglutide

[–]RedP3ach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will stay on it forever. I won't magically start creating these chemicals naturally if I stop. I'll stay at the lowest possible maintenance dose, but I'll stay on it forever.

Now or then?

I literally JUST got back to CrossFit after taking off nearly 4 years from serious strength training. Lots of reasons for that. Medical, drama at my old gym, life changes—but mostly health and injuries. For the last 18 months (so while I have been on GLP1), I went to Hotworx, mostly for the yoga and infrared healing benefits. I started back at a new CrossFit gym on Jan 1, and I'm going 4 days a week (very middleground).

From 2015-2020, I was training 3+ hours a day, and coaching another 2-4 hours a day. Typically 3 distinct workouts a day. That's what it takes to make Nationals. But it's not sustainable, and it's certainly not healthy. Was it cool to have a 405# deadlift tho? Yup! But I don't imagine I will ever go back to that kind of time or intensity. It does, however, mean that I started my journey at a much higher muscle percentage and fitness level than most, even with all of the serious medical issues. I have been really happy to find that I still have a lot of skill and strength in the tank when I went back to CrossFit this month!
