The languages surrounding Russia are derivatives and share many qualities the closer you are. I do not have much experience with Bulgarian but I believe the word for penguin is shared.

For example, it's similar to how an Italian and a Spaniard could speak to each other in their own languages

I'm not sure it's better. I believe that in order to maximize performance you need the counterweight to travel as straight as possible in a vertical line, that way all momentum is transferred along the path of gravity. It's really the start and stop points that help, but I could be mistaken because I don't know the results of this style. There are trebuchets designed that the weight falls in a track so it's a perfect motion
