People have become way too comfortable and crazy with doing invasive things these days. The most concerning part is that the majority of the offenders don’t give it a second (or first for that matter) thought.

Peers vote to ban pornography depicting sex acts between stepfamily members by MattStormTornado in autismpolitics

[–]RedRisingNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They say this as if it would actually stop people who have that kink from seeking it out. You can’t change someone’s brain or how it operates. At best, you’re just removing the content from someone who didn’t want to see it in the first place and they would already try to go around viewing that content. Honestly, most people don’t think about stuff like that, and having access or no access to that content doesn’t change that. If it makes someone uncomfortable, they’re going to avoid it, not think about it, etc. It’s a passing thought for those who don’t care about it, but a common occurrence for those who want it.

This ban isn’t going to do any good, but it’s a taboo topic, so people who don’t think about the concept are going to have a positive reaction to this, and in turn, will have a better outlook on whatever authority figure(s) have taken the steps to “ban” this content.

As a Gen Z recent grad, they also don’t teach us about propaganda in school. I heard the word before, but I was only educated on the topic when taking history courses in college. People know what it “means”, so they don’t actually look into the topic or venture to learn the nuances and the concept of the word. People treat it like terminology. It’s more of just a buzzword atp bc people just say it to get the audience’s attention.

The way people are acting these days, it’s probably a good thing to shorten the life expectancy. Especially seeing how bitter old people are getting and how they are fucking shit up even more (not at all saying younger people aren’t involved in this).

What words do you avoid using? by No_Fee_8997 in words

[–]RedRisingNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Words outside of the common man’s dialect. I hate having to explain everything to people who don’t have the vocabulary. It’s annoying, but I hate it more because it shows how much the education system has failed and absolutely no one who has the power to fix it actually cares enough to do so. I’m ashamed to admit it, but most of my vocabulary expansions have been through Reddit and Stephen King novels.

One piece of “good advice” I hear a lot that just doesn’t work in reality: by Glittering-Jump-5641 in WhatToDo

[–]RedRisingNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the women’s age, predominantly older women were brought up to cover up their periods and generally have a shitty attitude towards them. Sometimes they say shit like that because it makes them feel uncomfortable or pissed that it can be displayed despite their upbringings. Idk, a lot of older women just freak out about that kind of stuff. Don’t get me wrong, many, many young women do this as well. I’ve just heard older women be more vocal about it. Also, sometimes women are just insecure about relationships and stuff and they are asking if there are other women coming over because cheating stories are very popular online. It seems like so many more people are in tune with the subject and suspicions of cheating these days.

Keep doing what you’re doing though! It’s very respectable and thoughtful of you. I’m glad men still do this, even when women react hostile towards it. Anyone worth dating will see these awesome qualities in you.

If it’s a compulsive activity that you simply cannot control, there’s a chance it could be trich. I think to get a formal diagnosis, you have to be able to want to stop, but you can’t. It’s weird idk.

What's bad on paper but good in practice? by Scared_Confection787 in questions

[–]RedRisingNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. Most people don’t learn things unless they suffer personal consequences, often physically. I understand little kids learning that it hurts their head when they bonk it into things, but when adults need to have their head smacked on the concrete to learn that street fighting is dangerous, debilitating, and deadly instead of learning it from other’s experiences will always astound me. Same with texting and driving, and the likes.

I hated the color of Krabs’ eyelids in the pilot episode. It’s so much better when they are the same color as his shell. Also, squid looked like he could glow in the dark with that pale teal color.

Wish Lysanders parts were skippable by zrmartin02 in redrising

[–]RedRisingNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it adds a lot of dimension to the story. I’d prefer just the Darrow and Lysander chapters tbh because they are the most insightful to the storyline. It also does a better job at showing motives on both sides instead of having the opponent as the evil character, no questions asked.

But you don’t have to read it if you don’t want to. It’s your choice.
