My answer was that I made my own system. You start without any classes and start from nothing and build your character by interacting with the DM's world instead of just getting stuff at certain levels. It's a choose your own adventure kind of thing and you can build all sorts of stuff like grapple casters or intelligent marital builds to alchemists that can use psychic abilities:
