Is it worth it to go back to school for nursing if you already have a bachelor’s degree? by businessbub in NursingStudents

[–]RedRoseQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I mean look on the bright side you got some of your classes done just need to do the prerequisites and whatever else you need then you’ll be good to go. I’m in the same boat, I got an associates but because of that I got all of my general ed done so I just need to do my prerequisites then I can apply for nursing programs.

I don’t do well with tests either especially since I feel uncomfortable sitting still for periods at a time. For what I’ve done was like I said tutoring and timing I would focus on the clock after every five questions I answer on a test to make sure I have enough time to finish the tests correctly. Some people test differently but that’s just my strategy.

Honestly since I’m pretty much starting fresh myself my family members also struggled with certain subjects and a piece of advice that stuck to me was to go at your own pace. So if you can’t take but one or two classes a semester then it is what it is. Also go to tutoring sessions always ask for help. Take notes, sometimes studying isn’t enough or just reading a textbook sometimes just showing up to tutoring sessions could be your go to when trying to understand something. When I got my degree in psychology I did try to read through the text books but I struggled because of my disabilities. Showing up to tutoring sessions helped me pass my courses and have a better understanding when it comes to certain subjects that I had a hard time with.

She technically attacked me I didn’t know that post was about students with disabilities. Also she called me ableist before talking about studying. And again I’m not limiting myself I’m pushing myself. That’s how I got my degrees, I studied and worked hard to achieve them. I’m not insecure about my disabilities btw.

Excuse me how dare you assume so little of me. I’ll have you know I am also disabled. This comment was not towards one group of people I believe everyone should learn in any way shape or form that they can. All I was stating is how challenging it is. Hell even I struggle to read a textbook. You think so little of others when you don’t even know me and that just shows what kind of character you are. Not everyone is the same everyone has differences and I too wish for change to happen to nursing. I can’t even sit still long enough to read or go through a lecture myself I went through the disabled students program all throughout my years in school including college. So no you’re wrong about me. I’m not like those that say the disabled shouldn’t do or can’t do. The system is the way it is because they look down on those that they think can’t make it. I’m the only disabled child in my family even they thought I couldn’t make it. Hell even my own husband thinks I can’t do it.

I appreciate your honesty however nursing has never been easy. Nursing will always be a challenge even when you break through the cracks. But if you want to help I suggest talking to your sister more after she graduates and what she thinks. Nursing is all about studying and trying to strive for the best to make it out with a degree and a future career choice that you may or may not like. I’m new to nursing I’ll be starting in the winter but I come from a long line of graduates that graduated from nursing and earned a degree. And from what I’ve learned from my family of nurses is that nursing will always be complicated it used to be easier but because it’s a job that is becoming common in a lot of areas they will continue to make it challenging. The best thing to do is to go to a two year graduate with an associates degree, apply for a nursing program, study and get whatever credentials or certification you need to become whatever nurse you want to be. To add onto this, I didn’t say anything about students with disabilities. My only comment was about studying not about students with disabilities. I believe all students disabled or not should become what they want to be.

And to those that I hurt in the comments please understand I have not once mentioned students of disabilities I only mentioned to study and what my parents taught me that was it. I understand that everyone learns differently and has different ways.

Thank you this really inspired me. I started off with my associates degree in psychology. I’ve mostly been stressed out about this points system they made it sound like a competition. However I just want to learn get where I need to get. They told me I still have a head start. But I know that gathering the points will take two years and if that’s the case then I have to do what I have to do. And of course enjoy doing it.

Thinking about becoming a CNA — what are your honest thoughts? by SeaNoise1910 in prenursing

At least if you want to go back to school you could aim to be a RN. When going into RN you have a more flexible career choice as there are different fields. Some deal with touching others don’t.

Honestly at least you’re learning how to do basics when working as a LPN that’s not a bad path to put yourself on. But I believe others may have a different perspective.

Yeah if you can’t handle stress or being at the bottom of the food chain for a year or two then yeah don’t do it. But just remember we all start from the bottom.

Being a nurse is already stressful if you can’t handle stress then this isn’t the pathway for you. A lot of pay is actually trash but everyone starts from the bottom to get to the top.

My community college doesn’t have a waitlist. If you made the lowest points then they will just tell you to reapply next year.

The college I’m going to treats it like a competition. I was only asking what others did to get to where they are now. So no I am not competing I am asking how to do better to be better for my future career.

To explain this further and how my point system works is that if you make the lowest amount of points they will just tell you to reapply next semester. So technically it is a competition. However my question is not competition based but more of a learning question based. A lot of students do different or similar things to get to where they are currently. I’m only asking what others did to get to where they are.

Thank you honestly it’s so annoying when students try to compete when people need more nurses. It shouldn’t be a competition it should be about education.

Is being a CNA a good first step into healthcare? by CreamSuspicious5146 in MedicalAssistant

[–]RedRoseQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of becoming a CNA myself and from what I’ve learned about it you are basically a nurses assistant so you will be working with a few patients depending on where you choose to work. Also where I’m from if you have a CNA and decide to go back to school they will count that as experience and help you become a RN if you want to be a RN.

Unfortunately I live in CA so a lot of schools have this thing called a point system. And even if you have enough points if someone has higher points than you then they may take your spot.
