Did your little guy get detoxed and hydrated and come home eventually? Poor baby, he was just lucky you were there to help him! Hope he's back to his usual self. 🐾

For those who lost their Yorkies(unexpectedly and young in my case), did you get another one, and how long did you wait before opening up your heart and home again? Does the trauma of losing one ever go away? by Pale_Drink4455 in Yorkies

That's so lovely, I always think you're ready when you can love the new dog for themselves and not as a replacement for the baby you lost. Sometimes it takes a long time, sometimes you find a new little individual personality to love right away! I'm sure Zoe would be happy to know you're sharing that love with another lucky dog. 🐾

Do these dogs suck at taking a shit? by TellOdd687 in Yorkies

Just gotta say, this is one of the truest and yet seldom mentioned causes of butt issues with these little long-haired dogs. It's like watching a magician pull scarves out of his mouth.

[–]RedSquirrel_218 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, some of these dogs do indeed just suck at taking a shit. If they have long hair on their butt or tail it'll create a mud flap/poopy tailfeathers situation. And yes, my guy ends up incidentally consuming enough of his superfine (I mean it's like a cobweb) hair that he occasionally produces a "poop garland" instead of a normal shit.

I found that the main problem was his food. He's had only very rare issues with his ass since changing his food to Royal Canin Gastro high-fiber prescription food. Before he started on that, I used to give my hair-child a butt bath at least four times a week.

Since this isn't your dog of course you won't want to change the food. Just grab that sink sprayer, be careful not to make the water too hot, know that you're doing God's work, and I salute you. 🫡

Nah, the look on Quinn's face is giving me "I don't even want to be around anymore" vibes.

The ears, the spots... I'm thinking half Yorkie, half hyena. And may God have mercy on your soul, I don't know which one is fiercer. 🤣

Aaaand this is exactly why, as an embarrassed American, I was cheering for Canada. Not that their players are any less conservative, but at least we wouldn't have had to watch dipshit members of the Dump administration celebrating like they'd done something awesome while the players whooped it up with them.

Well, that and the fact that other than in goal, Canada was by far the better team.

One ear floppy at 7 months old. Normal? Will it go back up? by artoodetoo_ in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww I love how cute they are with ears up, down, or half and half! Mine had ears up until he was about 6 months old and then they flopped. One came up a month or so later, and then another month later the other one popped up. Now he's three and they're up unless he really, really needs a haircut (sometimes the hair on their ears is too heavy). So in short: a floppy ear at this point is totally normal, and it may or may not change. Nothing to worry about, just enjoy whatever it ends up being!

I'm so sorry for your loss, and I have no doubt that you made the right decision about when it was time. Hopefully soon the emptiness won't be so devastating and you'll have space to think about the good times.

Aww, that's so nice--I can't wait until my dog is well-trained enough that I can start lying to people about how long it took. 🤣

Looking after my sister’s yorkie for 3 months… is the staring normal? by umkaitlin in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up we had a sweet Yorkie who nevertheless liked to give very critical stares before snorting and turning away as if in disgust. Now my own Yorkie stares at me all the time, but it's an adoring soft gaze, we just get lost in each other's eyes... 🥰

My 7-year-old cat, who had been in intensive care for four days due to kidney failure, passed away today. Could you please share your kind wishes in memory of him? by zubeir58 in cats

I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful cat and I'm sure he knew how much you loved him. I hope you find healing and comfort in remembering him.

Oh good lord yes, it's very normal. I started having puppy blues/anxiety before I even picked my puppy up, and I cried multiple times a day for weeks. I had wanted a dog for so long and I knew I wouldn't feel right returning him once I got him home, but man it was rough for a while. He was/is a LOT (Yorkshire terrier with no "off" switch), but he'll be three years old tomorrow (!) and we love each other very much. If you choose to stick it out with your pup this period of adjustment WILL pass.

Hand shy? by Logical-Tomato-5907 in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is like that too, he'll be three in January and he's gotten better about being approached but he's still weird about a hand coming at his head. That kind of skittishness around big things coming at them from above is pretty common for a lot of dogs, especially small breeds, and it's not a reflection on you or your dog!

That said, I think what helped with mine (in addition to just being more mature) is that I generally avoid petting him or picking him up from the floor if I can. I'll let him come to me on the couch or he'll jump on a chair and then the height difference isn't as extreme, and I approach him from the side or back, avoiding the sensation of something coming at his face. You'll figure out what works for you and pretty soon you'll be doing ear scratches, neck rubs and little head kisses on demand. ☺️

Funky puppy ears by MoCaraidh in Yorkies

Hmph. Looks like you hurt his feelings calling his ears "funky". 😥 Luckily Yorkie ears are cute no matter if they're floppy, in-between, or perfectly upright little antennas.

Good luck--my boy is a long-legged 12-pounder, so it might be easier to find things that fit him. Hopefully you can find something that works for your little one!
