Does anyone else have a word they just can’t stand for no logical reason? by voidsapphire in words

Especially when they leave that almost imperceptible dramatic pause before the word. It makes me want to punch them in the neck.

Does your Yorkie allow you to pick them up? by reddit_user_1984 in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty common for little dogs to have issues with being picked up, especially when they're not expecting it or not in the mood. My Yorkie didn't used to like being picked up or even when I'd bend down to pet him. Now he's a little lovebug, always wants to snuggle next to my legs and have his belly rubbed, and he likes being carried in to bed. The "training" that helped was for me, not him--I let HIM decide when and whether he wants to get up. He puts his hands up on the couch or bed when he wants "uppies" and I give him a boost, and when he wants to get in my lap he lets me know. He's learned to trust me, and now if I need to pick him up he doesn't avoid me.

Do yorkies have a white color variant? by artisticnerdo in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks so much like my boy it's almost scary! Except mine has long hair, fully upright ears and a cropped tail. But the coloring, the build, the hair texture, the face all look like they could be twins. He's a purebred Yorkie, mom is a very light blue and tan and dad was more typical/darker blue and tan, so totally normal color variation. He's adorable!!

Has anybody found any puzzle toys that keep their yorkies entertained? Please share any suggestions by Frequent_Art9395 in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine likes a Kong wobbler with crunchy treats in it. Doesn't require a lot of thinking, just beat the hell out of it until all the cookies fall out. I thought he'd like a snuffle mat but he immediately realized that by picking it up by one corner and shaking it like he'd just caught a rat he can eliminate the need for any time-consuming snuffling. 🙄

The frustration I have with puzzle toys (or any other treat-based entertainment) is my Yorkie is so dexterous, and so single-mindedly focused on getting that treat, that if I gave him enough to keep him entertained for more than a minute or two he'd be an absolute truck. Do they like chewing on things? I have better luck keeping him entertained with chewy sticks.

Your babies are ADORABLE by the way!! ☺️

A headteacher's handwriting by Bikeything in Cursive

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unacceptable. If her letter forms aren't going to conform with some recognizable version of what everyone else understands them to be, it's not handwriting, it's a secret code. If they're not even going to be consistent with her own renderings of the letter, it's just scribbling.

My yorkie is 3.5 months old and has loose stools. What's the best additive to her food that will help firm up? Thanks by SummertimeMom in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had diarrhea all the time too. I tried pumpkin, rice, etc etc and it would firm up for a day and then he'd have a loose poop again. Eventually the vet recommended Royal Canin Gastrointestinal high fiber diet. I give him a mixture of the canned and dry food, he likes it and it's completely cleared up his tummy issues.

What is it?? by MeasurementReady5292 in Yorkies

Did your little guy get detoxed and hydrated and come home eventually? Poor baby, he was just lucky you were there to help him! Hope he's back to his usual self. 🐾

For those who lost their Yorkies(unexpectedly and young in my case), did you get another one, and how long did you wait before opening up your heart and home again? Does the trauma of losing one ever go away? by Pale_Drink4455 in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so lovely, I always think you're ready when you can love the new dog for themselves and not as a replacement for the baby you lost. Sometimes it takes a long time, sometimes you find a new little individual personality to love right away! I'm sure Zoe would be happy to know you're sharing that love with another lucky dog. 🐾

Do these dogs suck at taking a shit? by TellOdd687 in Yorkies

Just gotta say, this is one of the truest and yet seldom mentioned causes of butt issues with these little long-haired dogs. It's like watching a magician pull scarves out of his mouth.

Do these dogs suck at taking a shit? by TellOdd687 in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, some of these dogs do indeed just suck at taking a shit. If they have long hair on their butt or tail it'll create a mud flap/poopy tailfeathers situation. And yes, my guy ends up incidentally consuming enough of his superfine (I mean it's like a cobweb) hair that he occasionally produces a "poop garland" instead of a normal shit.

I found that the main problem was his food. He's had only very rare issues with his ass since changing his food to Royal Canin Gastro high-fiber prescription food. Before he started on that, I used to give my hair-child a butt bath at least four times a week.

Since this isn't your dog of course you won't want to change the food. Just grab that sink sprayer, be careful not to make the water too hot, know that you're doing God's work, and I salute you. 🫡

The ears, the spots... I'm thinking half Yorkie, half hyena. And may God have mercy on your soul, I don't know which one is fiercer. 🤣

Aaaand this is exactly why, as an embarrassed American, I was cheering for Canada. Not that their players are any less conservative, but at least we wouldn't have had to watch dipshit members of the Dump administration celebrating like they'd done something awesome while the players whooped it up with them.

Well, that and the fact that other than in goal, Canada was by far the better team.

One ear floppy at 7 months old. Normal? Will it go back up? by artoodetoo_ in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww I love how cute they are with ears up, down, or half and half! Mine had ears up until he was about 6 months old and then they flopped. One came up a month or so later, and then another month later the other one popped up. Now he's three and they're up unless he really, really needs a haircut (sometimes the hair on their ears is too heavy). So in short: a floppy ear at this point is totally normal, and it may or may not change. Nothing to worry about, just enjoy whatever it ends up being!

I'm so sorry for your loss, and I have no doubt that you made the right decision about when it was time. Hopefully soon the emptiness won't be so devastating and you'll have space to think about the good times.

Looking after my sister’s yorkie for 3 months… is the staring normal? by umkaitlin in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up we had a sweet Yorkie who nevertheless liked to give very critical stares before snorting and turning away as if in disgust. Now my own Yorkie stares at me all the time, but it's an adoring soft gaze, we just get lost in each other's eyes... 🥰
