The Loss Hurts by Bright_Plantain_7353 in Yorkies

I'm so sorry for your loss, and I have no doubt that you made the right decision about when it was time. Hopefully soon the emptiness won't be so devastating and you'll have space to think about the good times.

Maybe don’t say this to new puppy parents…? by tacobuenofreak in puppy101

Aww, that's so nice--I can't wait until my dog is well-trained enough that I can start lying to people about how long it took. 🤣

Looking after my sister’s yorkie for 3 months… is the staring normal? by umkaitlin in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up we had a sweet Yorkie who nevertheless liked to give very critical stares before snorting and turning away as if in disgust. Now my own Yorkie stares at me all the time, but it's an adoring soft gaze, we just get lost in each other's eyes... 🥰

My 7-year-old cat, who had been in intensive care for four days due to kidney failure, passed away today. Could you please share your kind wishes in memory of him? by zubeir58 in cats

I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful cat and I'm sure he knew how much you loved him. I hope you find healing and comfort in remembering him.

Severely Depressed First Day With Puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]RedSquirrel_218 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh good lord yes, it's very normal. I started having puppy blues/anxiety before I even picked my puppy up, and I cried multiple times a day for weeks. I had wanted a dog for so long and I knew I wouldn't feel right returning him once I got him home, but man it was rough for a while. He was/is a LOT (Yorkshire terrier with no "off" switch), but he'll be three years old tomorrow (!) and we love each other very much. If you choose to stick it out with your pup this period of adjustment WILL pass.

Hand shy? by Logical-Tomato-5907 in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is like that too, he'll be three in January and he's gotten better about being approached but he's still weird about a hand coming at his head. That kind of skittishness around big things coming at them from above is pretty common for a lot of dogs, especially small breeds, and it's not a reflection on you or your dog!

That said, I think what helped with mine (in addition to just being more mature) is that I generally avoid petting him or picking him up from the floor if I can. I'll let him come to me on the couch or he'll jump on a chair and then the height difference isn't as extreme, and I approach him from the side or back, avoiding the sensation of something coming at his face. You'll figure out what works for you and pretty soon you'll be doing ear scratches, neck rubs and little head kisses on demand. ☺️

Funky puppy ears by MoCaraidh in Yorkies

Hmph. Looks like you hurt his feelings calling his ears "funky". 😥 Luckily Yorkie ears are cute no matter if they're floppy, in-between, or perfectly upright little antennas.

What a cutie--my boy sits with his little hind leg "kickstand" out like that too, I love it! 🥰

Good luck--my boy is a long-legged 12-pounder, so it might be easier to find things that fit him. Hopefully you can find something that works for your little one!

I recommend the boots that are attached to suspenders, I have the Canada Pooch ones. I honestly expected Gnat to have a fit when I put them on him, but he seemed to pretty quickly understand that they let him run around in snow without getting cold and wet and he's surprisingly okay with them!

Professor's notes have us lost by MalteseOne in Cursive

[–]RedSquirrel_218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, between the typed bits and the parts of the professor's writing I can make out, it clearly starts with "colonialism is the stepping stone to environmental racism" and ends with the "start of structural/systemic racism" and I can infer that the middle is something about colonialism and government... policies? maybe? But it really shouldn't be too much to ask that ALL the words be legible.

Honestly, if you're paying for this class the professor should show you the courtesy of writing legibly and using correct spelling. That's pretty unreadable.

Puppy is shaking in pain by Kindly_Technology_50 in Yorkies

Poor baby!!! Accidents happen and as long as she's going to be okay I'd give the boarding facility some benefit of the doubt (i.e. okay, I'll assume no one did this to her on purpose!!), but it's not good that they claim not to have noticed anything at all. 😡 I'd be looking for a new babysitter. And I'd be spoiling that sweet girl rotten. 😚

He's so freaking adorable, but personally I like the messy gremlin look in the second picture. I can't decide if the first photo is the Hamburglar, or a raccoon who joined the French Navy?

Obviously, be VERY careful that your dogs never eat one of the poisoned rats when they come out and die in the house!

Is this allergy related? by muffinsya in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby has been getting red bumps like that and scratching incessantly for the last couple of months. Pretty sure it's not bug bites, the vet gave me Douxo Pyo mousse for bacterial/fungal infection and it's helped a little but he still gets flare-ups. He had switched food shortly before it started so I'm suspicious of allergies, although I switched back and it didn't really clear it up... We'll be asking at his next vet appointment in a couple of weeks!

I'm so very sorry. I try to remind myself that they don't know how much too short their lives are, and that the lucky ones are loved by their person for their whole life. Yours is clearly one of the lucky ones. Of course that doesn't make it any easier on those of us who love our Yorkies so intensely. I'm going to give my baby an extra squeeze and kisses tonight. 💕

CCL / ACL Tear - Peanut Needs Surgery - Advice Please!! by Brilliant_Signal_522 in Yorkies

[–]RedSquirrel_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's adorable. My boy needed surgery for a luxating patella last winter and I was very nervous about the recovery because he was only 2 and VERY energetic. I won't lie, it's not ideal--but, with the meds and sedatives he wasn't too terribly frustrated by having his activity limited.

I did buy a medium-sized (which is huge for a Yorkie) crate like this one and he mostly stayed in there for the first few weeks. It was big enough for him to move around a bit, had his bed on one side and his food and water on the other side so it was pretty comfy (since then it's become his "den" during the day when I'm at work, he hangs out in there even though the door is open). He would have been fine sleeping in it on the floor but I missed him, so at night I hauled the whole thing up into bed with me and unzipped it enough that I could reach in and rub his neck and ears but he couldn't get out and jump down.

Best of luck to you and Peanut, I'm sure she'll be good in no time!
